  • In today's video I am taking part in the Oulton Park Young Drive Plus experience, which sees me take to the Cheshire circuit in a brand new BMW 116d, with fewer than 300 miles on the clock since new!
Just over a year ago I passed the first Young Drive test at Oulton Park in a Mini One, but since then the Minis have been phased out in favour of these brand new BMW 1 series cars.
This video focuses on my review of the Young Drive Plus experience, which continues on from the first young drive experience, but this time 11-17 year olds can take to the racetrack itself to be tested on more complex driving techniques, such as emergency stops, slaloms, parallel parking, 3-point turns, hill starts, using roundabouts and more, with a top speed of 50mph - although I may or may not have got up to 60mph on the main straight! ;)
I highly recommend the Young Drive and Young Drive Plus driving experiences for aspiring motorists and it was great fun having a go in the new BMW 116d.
If you enjoyed this review of the Oulton Park Young Drive plus experience then pelase let me know your thoughts in the comments below, and how you learnt to drive at a young age.

    Thanks for watching!

Watched yours first this morning Harley. A great video Harley and a fantastic experience for you which judging by your smiles you thoroughly relished and enjoyed. Time is ticking by quite quickly and next April will soon be here.

Happy birthday Harley! Looks like great fun. Good on the folks for a perfect present, eh? I turned sixteen in 1976, but in my crazy state of Idaho, we could get drivers license at fourteen!

Happy 16th birthday Harley from an old geezer. I can't remember the year I turned 16 , it was that long ago. 😅 I don't drive a car anymore, I use my legs now. Luckily I have everything I need close to my home. Shops and supermarket. You did well . Having your aging assistant there to help with your video was a bonus. I called him your elderly assistant one time. I'm much older than your dad so it's me who's the elderly one. Do you think you would like to own a BMW now after driving one ?. From Carl in New Zealand.

@CarTractionvids I have always liked the BMW 2500 4 door saloon . It came out in the late 1960s and was in production into the mid 1970s. Very stylish car.

First of all happy birthday. What a fabulous experience, I would have loved to have had that treat for my 16th. How did you find the visibility in the BMW when reversing compared to the classics you've manoeuvred at home?

Visibility was all OK, the hardest thing was adjusting to brakes that seem so sensitive on a modern car compared to the long pedals of the older stuff!

Wowee! Didn't you do well! You are a lucky fella having such enthusiastic parents. But I think you know that. I am a huge advocate of teaching car skills early as then they become ingrained for when you get your diving licence and enter the chaos of our over crowded roads in which modern cars cocoon the drivers and often make them feel invincible. With all your experience as you grew up you will hopefully not have such faults and be a safe and very competent driver. Well done! And thanks to 'Family OCC' for such care and involvement.
