- Another 40 minute tape, condensed down to 8 minutes. Stuff with Mike and a lot of stuff of Jovantae (cleanest flip tricks ever). Lots more of EMB culture stuff with Mike Carroll interviewing peeps at EMB. Enjoy.
when big spins hit the scene back in the day, we would just sorta throw them around. That was just how they were done. We used to gather a crew together and take the train to SF once every 2 or 3 months. And seeing Mike Carroll pop his tail on his backside bigspins left a huge impression on me.So i left my whack ass bigspins in SF that day. When i returned home it was back to the drawing board. Ive benn poppin' em ever since.
I wish Jovante and Danny Way woulda stayed Blind...imagine that video with Jovante skating with Mark and GUy An d Jason Lee and Danny Way & Rudy everyday
No one cares
I think anyone who skated in the 90's knows about the little secret club we all shared. Before it went all big time. Good memories...
I agree, when a skater stopped getting picked on by a jock, it was over. Lol
RIght there with ya, 80's-90's
Yep, once in a lifetime
Then the jocks started to think skateboarding was cool. In the 2000's because of Tony Hawk Pro Skater games.
Omfg it's been so long since I've skateboard in emb miss it thanks for the upload
Only jovante can make pressure flips look good
This is classics!!! Very good!!!
5:17 She got the clap
Hurricane Helen
Carrol's switch big heel was also super rad.
Cool video. I still have a set of 39mm Santa Cruz Pea Shooter wheels in my skate box!
Jovantes bigflip at4:36 is too good.
wow...
i totally remember skating this a few yrs back on tony hawks pro skater...
Something about emb/sf skate scene in this era (90-94 ish) seemed really dark. Cool and legendary, but dark lol
Met wade speyers at emb
Oh, these guys. Just trying to get to the Ferry Building, guys...
That footage contributed to Jovontaes Love child part didnt it?
jovontae had the best tre flips.
Preach
Late shuvits are cool
664 Elbert Course
the shape of jovantae's board looks perfect, what size were the boards back then
I still have a Jason Lee everslick from that era. Measures close to 9".
7.5 he says in his nineclub interview
Yabba Dabba noooobody was skating 7.5s in EMB days I’d say boards were about 8.75 to 9.75 for street dudes
I also have a Lotti blind board from this era and I'd say it's about 8-8.125, I had a set of sma pequeños that I was riding that were about 48mm. I remember smallest wheels I ever got were birdhouse projects wheels that were 38mm. Very small and super thin.
@@gimmegamma4849 He said they cut big boards into little boards in his interview girl reissued his decks they were 7.5
"hurricane hannah"
think about this : during the EMB years skateboarding improved so much. super tech stuff had to be done with style and consitent. and what is street league doing ? skateboarding improving live infront of our eyes. I don't like the marketing side of it with monster and all that . but what are those guys doing is fucking amazing and good for skateboarding I think
look at how lame street league is for skating..Nike, Monster,Mountain Dew. P-rod looks like a Nascar. AN dthe way he stared at the trophy still creeps me the F out...Sucks that kids think STreet League is the best of the best...Skateboarding does need a new platform besides youtube and bompany videos...Like a raw event. The Phelper is needed!
lookn like a nascar lol
I should have all the raw footage from the dogtown video, it was the first video i ever made myself. I am hoping to find more wingding stuff.
Imagine if this was Vx1 Mark 1
why isnt he ever happy???
Who fucking duslikes this, I can't fathom it? They must not skate
But not as proper grammar.
back kid with 1 tooth was cracked out
yo let me get a dolla
i searched 4ever 4 ur comment
when it matters, everything else just disappears... when I see and hear the footage now, it's poetic to hear that click-clack... imagine 39mm wheels on that shit!
Goddamn Jovantae does tricks the way they are supposed to be done. Textbook. Greatest style ever.
i love the sound of the wheels on those bricks
Jovantae had such wicked 360 flips
Yes, Carroll has been pro for almost 20 years now !! A lot of kids these days just don't realise how good Mike Carroll actually is. His parts in the old Plan B videos were always the best to watch. So ahead of his game back then....
Pro 35 years now :) still ripping.
wow that was so fuckin killer
cleanest pop shove-its and 360 flips. The pressure flip is also ridiculously clean.
It's still like this today with a lot of kids that take the commuter trains to Philly every other day, and I'm proud to see it.
Raw Footage for Questionable. 1992. I was there all the time. 7L SamTrans from San Mateo and RWC. Heads who were there know the deal.
There’s a clip of him backside 180 late shuv’ing, when I was younger that trick blew my mind
This video turned 8 years old today. Fuck.
Early 90's SFO was the Skate mecca, am glad to have experienced it...
Are those Ariwalks that Carroll has on in the first clips?
Some of my tapes were just left in a box, so I am re-discovering stuff daily.
the girl at 5:20 gave carrol the clap
SKateboarders were RARE back then. Being a skateboarder was unique. Those were good times. You could look at someone and tell if they skated by the fact that they were wearing skate shoes. Nowadays every twat who goes to TJMaxx or Marshalls has a pair of DC shoes on. I'm glad to have been skating back then. It was a GREAT time to be a skateboarder.
Speechless and don't know where to start... It's the footage you always knew existed, but before youtube there was just no way... Thanks a million and keep'em posted!
Wow !!!
Half cab 2 kickflips so early 90s love it.
ppl didnt know what switch was huh haha
those were sick days. full respect to true EMB skaters. Keep showing us oldschool shit.
Been digitizing today in my spare time. More Carroll stuff, Frankie Hill, Guy Mariano, Gabrial Rodriguez, all of it on the path to the public.
That’s crazy this single session was used in Questionable and Love Child 🤯
DAMN I MISS THESE DAYS SKATING EMB.,GREAT FOOTAGE....SOME FROM DTS VIDEO RIGHT...I WAS THERE THAT DAY CARDIAL AND WING GOT FOOTAGE FOR THE DTS VIDEO.....THE DAYS OF EVERYTHING
those tre flips my mans turner was doin are supper clean nice vid
Carroll has the best acid drop OF ALL TIME!
jovantae has such a sick style
When he slammed his board somebody thought it was a gun shot haha
OMG unedited Plan B stuff. Nice. And Jovontae has always been one of my favorites.
these were the times
Connelly Locks
cheers for putting all this footage up, its great to see!
Nolan Highway
Paxton Rapids
Mohr Coves
Kieran Estate
Man, I wish I could go back to this time again. Skateboarding really wasnt flourishing at this time, but it was so pure. I love the fact that skateboarders can make a really good living now, but its at the expense of being ridiculously coporate. Its sad. Long live early 90's skating.
And I think they called it "my dick", so Late My Dick. I laugh when I write that, but I am pretty sure that's what the half-cab 360 shove-it was called.
I think he's talking about himself.
P DUBS💚... yeah Bill👍
naw dude i know what presh flips are theyre rad. but im talking about when he does a real inward and it goes really vertical
I am so glad I got to skate EMB when it was all bricked out like this.. They fuckin ruined that place now...
fuck i love this shit
@sk8vidsofskaters pressure flip
jovontae "cheats" on inward heels kinda like a mirrored way that lots of people "cheat" on hardflips
Dope!! so tech, love those long runs
im talking about the one at 2:11 its sorta pressured, its sorta flipped, i dunno
I made a DVD with Mike for a limited release Lakai shoe that will come out soon. check the lakai site.
Wade Speyer, Karma Toscheff and some others... I will be putting up some raw footage of Karma and Wade.
EMB was its own scene and the vibes were there. Mike C is probably 17 here. Yeah, some of the footage was in Love Child.
@therealeskimoe actually they did care. if you didnt have the right clothes or the right style you got 86d by some of these guys. its a subculture that has its own rules and the main rule is to break the rules about every 10 yrs or so. i have a feeling it will come full circle to this.
so much highwater
it's a half cab late big spin. which probably has another name.
TAE💯❤️😎
i remember these days. baggy pants, big board and small wheels. no wonder why everything looked sketch lol.
Tae Tae Turners b/s lip to back smith Fakie is finesse!
That's still pretty "groundbreaking" shit today 20yrs. Later.
Jovantae was the cleanest, dopest, never been seen/done style of street skating in the early 90's. Straight up hustler too! Took two big pillow cases full of wheels from World's warehouse. Sell you a cracked deck or pair of flat spot wheels for $5. (couldn't tell either from all the bricks @ EMB) Legend!
i would kill to have a sw big heel like carroll
they are called pressure flips dude, and they are sick...its a lost art. lol
3:31 SIIIIIICK!
@scrambles yeah that's what I was thinking too. Especially after seeing sight unseen with the henry sanchez part where some of these clips were used
@Haha yeah! I remember when I saw this place in San Fran for the first time, I was like hey! that's that one place from that one game I always play!
jovantae looks like the black dude from american history when he made him bite the curb
it was like that around 2000 - 2002ish on the east coast. def. wasn't as cool as emb here but i'm pretty glad i got a taste of that vibe with being a rarity.
erm... isn't the black guy in the blue top Marcus McBride??!!
they use to call it the casper flip.
lol it was a fakie backside 180 he just pivoted on his trucks instead of turning in the air
thats awesome that carroll was brilliant enough to record this for the future.
James Kelch at 0:07
emb seemed so magical back in the day. similar to the small banks in NYC back in the 90s
@714a13x909 no its not your right its not a sport its an extreme sport :L
Good memories of good times. Seeing this makes me want to either see if I got an old board lying around or go and build another.
dude imagine how crazy jovantae would be shredding right now..is he still skating
@culture88 wow, i wouldn't really call skateboarding a sport, but yeah...
3:32 fakie late big spin, never really seen that be4 damn, TURNER
