  • English: In the shadow of the First World War, the genocide of the Christian Assyrians took place almost unnoticed by the world public. This first systematic genocide of the 20th century was committed by the Young Turks (Ottoman Empire) and would not have been possible without the support of some Kurdish local rulers and their family clans. The Assyrians are the indigenous people of Mesopotamia and have lived in Mesopotamia for thousands of years. The following experts explain in this documentary the almost forgotten crime against humanity:
    Dr. Gabriele Yonan, historian, Germany
Prof. Dr. Taner Akcam, historian, USA
Prof. Dr. Ove Bring, International Law, Sweden
Prof. Dr. David Gaunt, historian, Sweden
Various journalists and publicists also have their say with well-researched information in this documentary. The Assyrians refer to the Genocide as "Seyfo" (ܣܝܦܐ), which translates as "sword".

Syriac peoples were also in the massacre of Tur abdin. And for making it clear, Syriac are Arameans not Assyrians

      Thank you for your comment.
Your statement is not true. Syriac means Assyrian and nothing else.
The proper names of today's Assyrians are "Suryoye" or "Suroye". These designations both have their origin in the term "Assyrians". Today there is a scientific consensus about the symbiotic connection between the terms "Assyrians" and "Suryoye/Suroye".

@@Assyria-TV Stupidity, you are making everything Assyrian. They were called Syriac or Sureth because they were Arameans and they lived in Syria. They were called Arameans but after they got Christian the name got changed to Syriac.

      Dear Diana,
Freedom of expression and open & progressive dialogue are among the cornerstones of Assyria TV.
Therefore, we thank you for your continued comments. Nevertheless, we at Assyria TV adhere to the generally scientific accepted doctrine. That is, the current state of science. The current state of scholarship is that the terms "Syriac" and "Assyrian" are synonymous ("Syriac" has its origin from "Assyrian"). Ethnically, the Syriac Orthodox Christians, who have their roots in Tur-Abdin (Southeast Turkey), are Assyrians. Here are two of many examples from scholars:
For the Austrian historian and ancient orientalist Robert Rollinger, there is no doubt that the term "Suroye" or "Suryoye" means nothing other than "Assyrian". According to Rollinger, the discovery of an approximately 2,800-year-old stone at Cineköy (about 30 km south of Adana, Turkey) with a bilingual inscription in Luwian and Phoenician supports this thesis. Also the views of the Finnish Assyriologist Simo Parpola go in the same direction. He states that the name "Ashur" is also rendered as "Sur" in Aramaic documents from the 7th century BC.
      Best regards,

@@Assyria-TVHey AssyriaTV! I have a question which I hope you can help. What is the Colliquial Assyrian Language? Im so lost between wikipedia, the word Turyoyo, and the word Sureth. Also, I have found that theres Iraqi Koine Assyrian and Urmian Assyrian and Chaldean Assyrian and also Jewish Kurdish Assyrian dielacts. Basically, im from Chicago. When Assyrians here say that they soeak Assyrian, which language are they actually speaking? Also, are Assyrian dialects not written? (Like how Arabic has Al-Fus7a and then unwritten 3miye). I hope this question made some sense. I am truly confused. I want to learn spoken Assyrian and Armenian.
