THE LAST ASSYRIANS: This Full length documentary film (53 minutes, 2003) is directed by Robert Alaux on the identity, history and the current situation of Assyrian Chaldean Syriac Christians, who still speak Aramaic. In this film the famous Specialist Sebastian Brock (Oxford University) tells us their old History, and Joseph Yacoub, French Scholar and ChaldoAssyrian himself, help us to understand the situation. And also two famous Assyrian singers: Linda George and Juliana Jendo. This documentary is the result of a six years work , and of many travels and shootings in South-East Turkey (TurAbdin…), Iraq (before and after the American invasion of Iraq in 2003), Syria, USA and Europe. The communities that live now in France, Switzerland, Holland, Sweden or Germany are among the last Christians of Turkey, they fled this country around 1980-1990. They continue to leave Iraq. This was the first documentary which tells the building of the identity of this People, from the beginning of the Aramaic language to the current Diaspora. This Documentary was successfully projected in France, England, Belgium, Lebanon, Holland, Sweden, Germany, Italy, Switzerland, Thailand, USA, Costa-Rica etc. and broadcast on several TV Channels. The film has been completed in 2003 (2004 for the English version). This film received congratulations and support from Theophilus George Saliba, Syrian Orthodox Archbishop; Mar Narsai de Baz, Archbishop of the Assyrian Church of the East; Mor Samuel Aktas Archbishop of the TurAbdin; Cardinal Moussa Daoud, Patriarche Emerite d’Antioche des Syriens, Prefetto della Congregatio Pro Ecclesiis Orientalibus, managing all the Oriental Catholic Churches in Vatican; and from several Scholars , Specialists and political leaders (Yonadam Kanna, former ChaldoAssyrians Representative in the Iraqi Governing Council, P. Isho-Warda, Minister in the Iraqi Government…). Robert Alaux received an award from the Syriac League in Lebanon in September 2004 during the Symposium Syriacum gathering Specialists of the whole world ; and another from the CIDA, Center for Information and Documentation Assyria, in the Netherlands on 20th January 2005. Wow, what a professinal, well made and awesome video. I amm not Assyrian myself, but had an Assyrian boyfriend years ago, in the 1980s. I absolutely fell in love with their culture, history, music and food. The best music and food on earth! I sincerely hope that Assyrians in the worldwide Diaspora keep their language, music, food and cultural heritages alive and teach their children these important things,so they don't disappear with the passing of time. Long live the awesome Assyrian people!!

If Israel was able to gather scattered Jews together into their ancient cultural land and be an independent nation again after 2,000 plus years then it will happen one day that Assyrians do the same.

Nearly six million Assyrian Christians dot the world.
Mesopotamia is the homeland of the Assyrians. The famous royal cities of the Assyrians, Ashur, Nimrud (Kalhu), Arbela, Dur-Sharrukin and Nineveh were built in it. The Assyrians ruled for approximately 1,300 years - from about 2000 B.C. to 612/10 BC - in northern Mesopotamia an ancient landscape between the Euphrates and Tigris rivers. A clear reference to the existence of the Assyrians, on the other hand, can already be found in the Old Testament (1st Book of Moses 2:14).
    There it says:
    * “… the name of the third river is the Tigris, which flows east of Assyria. The fourth river is the Euphrates..."

Until now, Assyrian christians are being oppressed by the Abdullahs. Assyrian christians were murdered enmass by Turkish (Ottoman) muslims. Muslims (Kurdish) kicked Assyrian christians out of their lands.
Whats funny is Islam is just a second-rate copy of Middle Eastern christianity.

Not only Armenian/Anatolians Christians are from Assyrians ancestry. Syrians and Iraqis "arabs" people are mostly descendants of assyrians and babylonians too, the " arabisation " is just a linguistical fact mostly, "Islam" isn't dna. Kurdish people have huge semitics ancestry too, like persians/iranians, from the old elamites, especially from Al-Ahwaz region in Iran, a minority " arabised " but definitively in the very center old home of the ancient elamites ( that were speaking an aramaic dialects, just as assyrians, babylonians, and canaanites based ones like pheonicians, hebrews and nabateans northern arabs ). The only difference is religion and some historical details. Kurdish, Persians, and Anatolians are long time turned into a massive " mongol or indo-european " cultures and languages. Only non-kurdish syrians and iraqis turned into " arabisations history ", but at least their dna is still more authentics than the christians living outsides semitics lands or in another foreigns cultures and populations for centuries. Syrians from Malula by exemple, both christians and muslims still speak their own syriac aramaic dialect, like their arabised dialect version. Eupedia.com

Obviously the Assyrians come from the Middle East (lands which correspond to the ancient Babylonian and Assyrian empires) and not from China, Mongolia or India. Nothing in this film says that Assyrians come from China or India.

The Assyrian Syriac Christians had suffered greatly from the harassment of the Byzantines who considered them heretics. When the Muslim Arabs arrived, they initially found that the pressure was less strong than that of the Byzantines. And it was a bit the same thing for those who lived in the Persian Empire with the Zoroastrians.
