  • We stock 2 to 4 inch Rainbow Trout in a Private Pond in Montana. We built what we think is a perfect trout pond, introduced a food chain including freshwater shrimp, and put the fish in the pond when there is enough food for the trout to thrive on.
Be sure to subscribe to The Wildlife Channel for future videos showing how big the fish grow. This is a new pond, so there is no competition for food from other fish. Private ponds in the vicinity of this pond have grown 10 pound trout when freshwater shrimp are available.

Greetings from the BIG SKY. I know of a kid in Virginia that is thinking of a 'trout pond', I told him it's too warm there. Walnuts and Wineberries on TH-cam.

Mayfly nymphs have to be one of the most terrifying insects I’ve ever seen. Imagine them the size of a small dog….

Any plan to stock some bass in the pond? Then you can do bass fishing as well. 😃

No. Water way too cold for warm water fish. Trout only. These are steelhead strain. We put in some kamloops strain of rainbows this spring. They grow faster and bigger!

@@TheWildlifeChannel2022 ever consider browns or Speckled/Brook Trout instead.

Had to go with what the state biologist determined. The pond is on a tributary of one of America's greatest spring creeks. It's only 500 yards downstream. They don't want brook trout in there. There's none now. There are brown trout in that spring creek, but didn't want brown trout in any pond in the drainage. Any strain of rainbow was ok. First stocking was steelhead fingerlings. Second batch was Kamloops rainbows. Kamloops could reach 10 pounds on a diet of freshwater shrimp in a few years. I'll take it.
