- In this video I showcase your typical 2024 Toyota Tacoma owner. My overpriced Tacoma of choice for this video was a new 2024 Tacoma TRD Off Road in Underground. You can really boil down a typical 2024 Tacoma experience into 4 stages: Initial Excitement, Denial, Regret, and Acceptance. This new Tacoma is a hot bag of trash. Between its poor quality control and 4 banger under the hood (that nobody asked for I may add)… it’s just a disappointment for true Toyita enthusiasts. True truck guys at that…
Here’s the series of thoughts and feelings new 2024 Toyota Tacoma owners go through:
Initial Excitement
- The Tacoma is the reliability king!
- Turbo power is better. 4cylinders are the new v8! Want to hear my intake woosh?
- 278 hp and 317 tq (228, 243 SR)
- Iconic truck… unmatched resale value!
- I have nothing to prove. No need to overcompensate with my engine size.
- I’m doing MY Part in saving the environment! What’s are you doing!?!?
- Doesn’t matter it’s built in Mexico. It’s still a state of the art Toyota plant!
- It’s a storm trooper!
- Less is more! We get less of a truck for a lot more money.
- I don’t “Need” the additional tech and safety Nannie’s but they’re always good to have.
Denial
- I mean Toyota didn’t have ANY choice. EPA regulations FORCED their hand. They had to transition to a 4 cylinder. It’s not due to government subsidies and carbon credits!
- Change is good. Get onboard or get out! 4 cylinders and hybrid motors are here to stay. I’m a part of the green energy movement. Get on my level!
- search every forum and TH-cam video and defend it until you’re blue in the face.
- The nay-sayers are just a bunch of 3rd Tacoma owners who are jealous!
- Don’t knock it just cause you can’t afford it! Go buy a Nissan if you’re so broke!
Regret
- “What the heck is rattling!?”
- Loose glove compartment
- A normal sized human cannot fit in the backseat
- Realizing there was a reason for there being so many available Tacomas on the lot…
- Pathetic exhaust sound
- Fuel economy next to Nissan… 19mpg vs 21mpg
- I spent $50K of my hard earned money on this… I can’t let people know it was a huge mistake. I was RIGHT to buy this!
- The TRD Pro is how much? 65K? Ridiculous.
Acceptance
- Yeah this truck blows…

Oh no, Untamed interviewed the GM of Ken Garff Toyota in Cheyenne. I assure you that they knew that Untamed wasn’t going to be buying this Tacoma. They even admitted that these new Tacomas were overpriced and not selling well.😅

I tell them I don’t like the new Tacoma. The GM has followed my channel for a long time. He’s seen the value in me being 100% honest with my take on these vehicles. Sure a video like this won’t help them sell Tacomas but it will bolster my credibility when/if I do highlight a decent option from Toyota. He knows I’m not just fake hyping the brand. People are smart, they’d see right through that. Just did a positive video on the new 1958 Edition Land Cruiser. I legitimately think that’s an okay option to consider (for a new gen toyota anyway)…
And this, ladies and gentlemen, is how you get blacklisted from Toyota events.

Toyota is paying too much attention to TH-cam influencers. Those same influencers are scared to tell Toyota when they're wrong. The result is a car company continuing down the wrong path.

When Akio Toyoda (was basically forced by Toyota's Board of Directors to) resign as CEO of Toyota, I knew this is the beginning of the end for the company especially in term of its reputation for designing and making affordable reliable vehicles. Akio Toyoda is a CEO with a mechanical engineering and manufacturing background. Toyota under the new younger CEO and management team have mainly background in marketing, financing and business administration. Toyota will eventually suffer the same fate as GE, Boeing, and Hewlett Packard.

Tundra double cab is embarrassing… they made the tundra worse after having three different decades to hit it out of the park!!!!!! Tell that enginnering team to stop eating cheeseburgers 🍔 and get back to the drawing board with both models
The only thing I would put in back seat is my guns, my jacket, and a 24 pack of water. If I see a Tacoma at the store, I take a quick glance and I go on. I’m comfortable knowing that nobody else carries more than me.
Honestly had Toyota shortened the bed 3-6" but increased the legroom in the backseat the same amount it wouldve been a welcome change. These are lifestyle vehicles not work trucks.

24 Tacomas are ugly . Engine sounds like a Singer sewing machine. I bought the 2023 Toyota Tacoma SR5 4 cylinder with only 2 wheel rear drive only . How I luv it so keeping it simple. Waking up with a smile ear to ear. BTW it's Cylestal silver.

Mostly because he’s comparing first quarter of a first year design, when a couple months in the quarter the trucks were hardly available. I’d say revisit the data in q3 or 4. If it’s just as crappy then yes could be a leading indicator.
I got booted from a tundra page cause I I complained that all the new tundra owners all they ever talk about is fuel economy. I commented that I thought I joined toyota tundra page not a prius page and that I thought toyota neutered the tundra owners from wanting the reliable pullyour house down beast to a fuel economy princess.
is the Tundra fuel economy even decent? I'm seeing 17 mpg average even for the hybrids! I got a hybrid corolla and my first week of ownership I got 68 mpg.

When the new Tundra went turbo 6, i traded my 2007 in for a Ram Power Wagon. 6.4 hemi, 14 mpg, couldn't be happier. I love starting that thing in the morning. Nothing like naturally aspirated V8 growl.

You made the right choice. All they did was take the Tacoma and make it more complicated and expensive without adding anything or substance or value. 4WD system is the same. Bed is the same. Build quality is objectively worse. Big screen? That’s a personal thing. Personally I don’t care as it’s just one more thing to break.
Perhaps the only real benefits would be the coils spring rears and rear disc brakes. However, it seems that Toyota botched that up by having not only more squat when loaded than the leaf spring competition but also somehow also having a worse ride.
This new generation of Tacomas was designed by a committee of Economics and Business majors and not by engineers and people who actually care. They’ll be laughing all the way to the bank with their annual bonuses while owners are stuck in understaffed service departments trying to get undertrained mechanics to repair all the unfinished builds from their incompetent foreign factory. Short term profits for the win!

I bought a 2021 Tacoma brand new, sold it 3 months ago. I joined a few Facebook groups after I bought it and man, I wish I had done research before I bought it. It was a v6, and had I known about the transmission gear hunt issue, I wouldn’t have ever got one.
Even after having it tuned, it was better, but still absolutely terrible to drive long distances. I sold it to a dealership with 24k miles on it. Toyota needs to step up their game, I was averaging 14mpg with a 3” lift and 33’s. My roommates ‘17 expedition gets better fuel mileage than my Tacoma did.
Also, how toxic and brand loyal some of the community is, is just borderline Stockholm syndrome.
Put a 3 inch lift and tall tires on the expedition and you get Ten miles to the gallon. Simple mat.
I also have a '21 TRD off-road Tacoma with 3inch lift and '33s. But my mileage is 19 mpg all day long. It may be I got a manual transmission.
@@DirtShy it probably is, my auto, even tuned would never go into overdrive on the highway. If it did, it would downshift after about 5 seconds.
I hated my gear hunt and the v6 is super slow with poor mpg. Had it for 3 years don’t get the hype

Keep the videos coming. Already sold my 2023 Tundra 1794 hybrid TrD off road for a 4Runner. I have never been so stressed with a vehicle. The quality is not there and too expensive. Oh and how about the insurance? Also saved $400 over 6 month period because of the swap.

I've had my 2024 Tacoma Sport since March. A week in, i noticed the door jambs between the fenders and front doors were never painted. It finally went beck to the dealer to fix the issue, to which they had for almost 3 weeks. I get it back and the next morning i get the dreaded "system malfunction". It is still at the dealer for a week now, awaiting parts. So almost 4 weeks I've been without a vehicle i spent almost $60K on.
Sorry, I really hate that man. Hopefully they get it worked out for you.

Just an update. My 24 Tacoma is still sitting at the dealer. Been 34 days at the dealers with no updates so far. Supposedly waiting for parts - catalytic converter and aie/fuel sensors.

My friend loves his Tacoma... it drives on roads, and it gets him to work and back, and he even used that bed one time putting some water bottles back there from the grocery store. He makes sure to tell everyone he has one and how awesome it is.

I would’ve bought a new Tacoma , or tundra this year, but instead went with the Nissan Titan Pro 4X 100,000 mile bumper-to-bumper warranty as well as a lifetime powertrain warranty, This is the last year it’s going to be available . naturally aspirated V8 no start and stop ,no cylinder deactivation. 400 hp.

Just seems you are more critical of the Tacoma then you are of the 3rd Gen Tundra? Tundra also went smaller engine, big price jump etc. I know you weren't super supportive of the new Tundra either but not as critical as you are of the Tacoma. OG here as you know. I would have really loved a new Tundra, but they ruined those before I was ready to shop for one. I wasn't paying 65k to have the same size engine as a 3rd gen Taco being overworked in a much larger vehicle. It's not like the 3rd gen 3.5 was ever considered a race truck in the Taco, but that was not it's purpose. I see guys on reddit that embody every personality trait that the guy in this video parodies. The cope and seethe are extreme.
