- What Toyota just did to their trucks could totally put them out of business and Toyota fans are furious. Toyota trucks used to be cheap and reliable... now they are insanely overpriced, packed with too many useless options and full of endless recalls. Toyota is struggling to sell their new 2024 Tacoma and Tundra pickup trucks... and in today's video I'm going to show you exactly why that is happening.

$50K Tacoma 4 cyl/turbo built in Mexico... Hard Pass

Frontier Pro-4X for $10k less.
As long as some rich TH-camrs and people who have no intention of keeping them for more that a year buy these trucks I am afraid Toyota could not care less! Thanks for the video
@@BabakPA They'll care now that the secrets are coming out lol.

Me to traded up to f250 6.7 Diesel

Caution buying a '24 Tundra with an imminent recall on the way. They've recalled the '22 and '23. The only reason they haven't recalled the '24 is because it would result in a stop sale. They are buying time. The problem with the 22 and 23 is present in the 24. The hybrids aren't being recalled because they don't lose power steering when the engine seizes so it isn't considered a safety concern. Thats the only reason they aren't recalling hybrids. Same engine, do the math. They will eventually be recalled too. Again, buying time. They cant handle opening the floodgates for all of these at once. Its bleak.
Yep. $40k for an engine replacement out of warranty could bankrupt you.
@jonesjones7057 yep, I agree with you. Toyota is buying time on the Tundras to figure out policy for complete buy backs, new engines, dealer costs, all the legal stuff at corporate level that will happen. Interesting that GM has extended warranty to 100,000 miles or five years on Silverados and Sierras with their Turbomax engine.
Toyota is also claiming the problem is engine debris instead of design flaw which is ultimately what is causing the engine debris.
By calling it an engine debris, they can handle warranty claims as problems occur. However, if they diagnose the issue as a design flaw, then they’d have to buy back all the trucks from consumers that they’ve sold since 2022. Let that sink-in. It’s a design flaw folks……
@livingadreamlife1428 agree. Debris in engines made in the USA AND Japan, not likely at all. It's happening to lexus as well as toyota, so there you go. Design flaw. They'll probably start sneaking 10W40 oil in engines as they come in for inspection and keep using it until they get caught. Aside from a design change I don't know what else they can do to delay the inevitable, maybe a higher flow oil pump. I don't think the oil pressure is sufficient at 1700 rpm to handle the torque. These engines make so much torque at low rpm, and they are using 0W20 with less bearing surface than prior designs. All adds up to failure.
You can't even trade one in.
If these auto makers want to bankrupt themselves let them, I just go to the part store and keep my old vehicle running
It’s not the manufacturers that made them raise prices, the government made them invest in EVs which didn’t sell so the only thing they had that was selling was trucks. So they raised prices to cover their losses on EVs . You want to get mad at someone get mad at Biden and his carbon sniffing administration appointees
The CEO's of these auto disasters are trying to get that outlawed. They are trying to restrict people from getting the parts they need to keep their old vehicles running, We have to make sure we fight back and defeat these crazy money grabbing monsters.
We'll end up bailing them out again
Indeed. Imagine how many times you could repair it for even half the price of one of these Tacos.
I'll take the last gen on the Tundra and Tacoma ... duh!! What's improved? Looks? NOPE. Performance? NOPE. Reliability? NOPE!

It will take a lot more than one recall that most people will forget about next week, to tarnish Toyota's reputation. If this mattered that much, the Eco Boost would have killed Ford years ago.

When your Subaru breaks down, you'll remember why you should have bought a Toyota. The new Subarus are trash.
I hope you have better luck with yours than I did with mine. It wasn't the best and I traded it. Good luck!
@@TroutWestagree when that cvt overheats on those trails wish u bought a Toyota
why would u sell ur reliable older Toyota s?
Thankful I don’t need a vehicle right now. Dealers are still not willing to deal. Test drove a new Bronco a couple weeks ago and the dealer had zero interest in trying to make a deal. They had 8 of them yet the salesman said they sell them easily which i find hard to believe these days. No incentives on price or financing. They can keep them.
LOL 51,000.00 he says it's a good deal. This guy's has sold out
Nah when you do something day in and day out, you get used to the environment around you. I sell expensive exotic car parts and it's definitely skewed my scale of what things should cost. I have to check myself sometimes
The average transaction price for all vehicles in the US was $48,510 for April 2024. $2500 over the average for a full-sized truck doesn't seem out of line. Of course the average itself is skewed quite a bit upwards, but people who think they should be able to buy a new truck for $25K are seriously deluded.
@@cs2294 It would be one thing if they had actually been selling lots of cars for the past 5 years. It would be reasonable to get a skewed scale from that but, they only had maybe 6-8 months of good sales in the past 5 years because of the doom spending after covid lock downs. They've got no reason to be so delusional. I have a suspicious feeling that corporate feels like they might have failed if prices get lowered. Egoes and false promises can't allow prices to lower. Little do they know that we're going into an economic depression if we haven't been in one for 2 years now.
Then don't be using the banks money. If it's a great deal, let that $50k come out of your own personal bank account
They’ll come up with something basic yet nice for 25K or sell no vehicles. No way people can keep up with these ever increasing prices. It’s over…everyone is tapped out with this BS. I drove a 2024 1794 4x4 Tundra. I wouldn’t have that rolling arcade game POS. I need a truck.
$54K for an SR5 is NOT too crazy? You have got to be kidding me. You can get a fully equipped Limited trim on most cars for that price and have enough for a meal at 5 Guys afterwars.
In 2022 I paid a out 50k out the door on a red off-road. I knew at the time that I was paying too much, but I needed a vehicle.
The resale is superior so you have to calculate that. It may cost more but you’re going to hold on to more value over the long term. Look at the prices for 5 year old Toyotas. They’re nearly as expensive as new.
My friend brought one two months ago. Now, it's at the dealership with transmission problems.
Why in the hell would you buy a first year of anything???
We're on the 4th year of the Tundra and there's still problems
TRDJohn 😂
Or 2nd or 3rd or 4th for toyota, their reputation is now no better than Ford
the buyers finally give toyota the middle finger for all of these ridiculous pricing 🤣🤣
Should've stuck with the i-FORCE V8.
Like all the other truck manufacturers, they can't. Federal fuel economy and emissions mandates are kicking in hard now. By 2030 you'll be looking at a triple turbo 1.0L three cylinder.
I don't need a truck, so they can keep the over priced exploding engines!!
Toyota has now fallen into the corporate greed category. I thought I would never say this in my life time but I will not purchase anymore Toyota products. If they made this many bad decisions on their flagship trucks, their cars and every single vehicle is next on the chopping block. Bye bye Toyota. What a shame.
As long as dealers hang on to these fantasy prices, things will only get from bad to worse for them.
I think Toyota has priced their new products much higher because they know they have famous resale values. Which makes buying a new one not so easy. Really pricey for what you get. What do you do? Buy a Nissan or Hyundai that will be worthless in 5 years. Plus not reliable.
Get a Frontier and be done with it.
Beware of Nissan the 2018 Frontier does not have an Input Shaft Seal that can be purchased for the transmission if it leaks & you have to buy a new transmission.
Sorry I meant the 2018 Titan

Purchased a 2024 Tundra about two months ago. Had all this news broke then, I wouldn't have bought it. Hoping for the best and that Toyota gets their house in order.
Your truck will be fine. Toyota sold more vehicles in the US last year than any other auto manufacturer and didn't even make the top 10 list for "Recalls by Manufacturer". Everything will be fine
I'm curious to see how many Tundra owners keep their trucks past the manufacturers warranty period, the recall of 100,000 Tundras for bad engines does not inspire confidence for long term dependability.
Our kia optima 2.4 engine got replaced at 110k miles for free from the debris in engine problem. It's not inspiring but they did us good at the dealership. I don't think I'd be buying a new tundra unless they warranty it for 100-120k miles like Kia did. You never know when the machining debris will come loose and ruin the engine.
Some people are already panic selling to beat the warranty expiration.
I still own a 2006 4Runner V8 Sport Edition, with no problems! I was considering purchasing a Tundra as a second truck. I can't wrap my head around owning a 4 Banger turbo. Not to mention the insane pricing and manufacturing issues!
4 banger in the tundra?
It's a 6 cylinder turbo and I do get what you are saying.
We have a '23 Tundra here in the household, not my driver and as a matter of fact I kind of avoid driving it as it is very unimpressive. No issues yet knock on wood but I have serioilus concerns about its longevity and reliability, I will be shocked if it makes to 100k miles without any major issues. I like the previous Tundra much, much better and if I needed a truck myself I would spring for a used one in the previous generation.
Overall being a long time Toyota brand loyal family I am very unimpressed with their entire lineup these last few years and if I need a vehicle in the future I will be looking elsewhere.
And we all talked down on the current Frontier ☠️😂
I've always defended the frontier, even in 2020 when it was still the old body style but on the new platform

They charge a "dealer market adjustment" for that feature.
No, but they're retrofitting them with built-in fireworks, good ones too, so when the engine does blow, the family will be treated to a great show.
No BUT they don't charge extra for it. The blow up is standard equipment.
80k for a truck that's gonna depreciate rust/ fall apart. And to top it off. They slapped twin turbos on them. No thanks. I'm super curious to see 10 years down the road. How they hold up.
All auto makers charge these prices for thier line up. I have a 23 tundra and has more power and torque than my previous gen Tundra. My neighbor bought a 6 cylinder turbo F 150 tremor, 73k. No thanks, ill keep my SR5 TRD offroad for 10 k less. Just my 2 cents.

NO WAY! I will not pay more than $40K for a loaded Tacoma 4x4. It must have leather too. I can buy a NISSAN for $40K with leather and a V6 with 4 wheel drive. SO, SHOVE IT TOYOTA!!!
In conjunction with the "safety test" issues which is gonna cost the CEO his job just goes to show that even Toyota doesn t give a shite about customers just profit.

@@JOSH-ge4oc Debt in and of itself, is not a measure of financial health. 2 year Toyota bonds are yielding 5.4% with the US Treasury bond yielding 4.7% so 70 basis points above the risk-free rate. I switched to Nissan. I got a used 2018 base model frontier for $15500.
I have a 2014 Ram 1500 Express 5.7 Hemi 4x4 Quad Cab with 96K miles that still looks good and rides like brand new. It pulls my boat and ATV trailers like they aren't even there. I see people selling trucks exactly like mine with 250-300K+ miles on Autotrader. I'd love to have a new truck with some of the new features and I can afford basically any truck I want cash purchase. However, I just hate all these overly complex smaller turbo engine trucks they are selling for stupid money. So I've found that it's sorta fun just to see how many miles I can put on the truck I have.
I still can't believe Toyota did away with their V8....that engine was so reliable.
They will not be put out of business. Only lawsuits could sink them but no major suits will be allowed. Auto makers are protected by the legal system. Ram and chevy have been selling trucks that stick the lifters and eat cam shafts for years and no one can get a lawsuit to get passed the front door.
Just paid $56,000 for a FULLY LOADED Nissan Titan Pro-4x. Toyota can eff off.
What Toyota has done to their Tundra engine may destroy their legendary reliability. Add in changing to hybrids like in the Sequoia and turbocharged smaller gasoline engines and Toyota is dead to me. I am still hoping to get a pre-2020 Sequoia. White exterior. Gray interior. Limited trim level.
It looks like you'll need to stick with a model that they also sell in Japan. Their reliability came from Japanese culture in which the manufacturer maintains the vehicle at no extra cost for as long as it's on the road.
Owned Tacoma and switched to Tundra and left it for the F150 years later. Tundra is better value than Tacoma for space and loads but this latest change of engines with better MPG are going to weaken their popularity
I saved a TON of money on my Tacoma by buying a 2018 Frontier SL 4X4 with low miles for just over $19k. Toyota has lost me forever. I don't need every new gadget. I need my truck to work and run like a Swiss watch. It's been a month now. I've driven 6400 squeak, rattle, check engine light free miles. I love this thing. I have no regrets about my purchase. The only regret I have is that I know it'll be spinning the odometer like it's a Wheel of Fortune final spin because my work requires it. That 4.0 isn't as fancy or powerful as any of the new engines, but it's normally aspirated and well tested by time. The manufacturers can miss me with their ripoff pricing. We'll check back in a couple of years and see how they are running. So far, if the new Tundra engine is the bar, those things will be in the shop more than on the road.
Excellent comment! :)
yep, if I needed a truck for my business, (retired now) I would look at a stripped Silverado or Sierra because GM raised the warranty to 100,000 miles/5 years. Use it like a tool, and trade it at 4.5 years.

Toyota's used to be cheap solid reliable cars. Maybe they weren't the best looking sporty cars but you knew they would last forever and kept their resale value. Now a days they are trying to act like they are a Benz or Caddy. Forget it, you're a family car company, not a luxury car company.

It must be a regional thing because the Tacoma TRD off-road is almost nonexistent around Green Bay. At least in the color and options I want.
They can't sell Tundras right now because of the recalled, whether or not that's the official stance. No one in his right mind is going to buy a vehicle model with an unresolved recall on it.
I ordered a Taco six months ago I was just told they can't deliver I had to cancel my order
My understanding is that Toyota knew there was an issue with the manufacturing process with the supplier that is causing the issues since like a month after the redesigned Tundra launched. As such, it is also my understanding that the cost of this issue will exceed $2 billion dollars US, and they have accounted for that. They’re no going to go bankrupt because of the cost of the fix…
They’re in trouble because this represents a dramatic shift in how Toyota deals with quality control issues. The reason their vehicles last longer, historically, is because they try to fix things as opposed to letting them contaminate the supply and deal with it after.
The handling of the engine issue is exactly the opposite of how Toyota would typically act. It is remarkably similar to how the “domestic” manufacturers have acted historically.
And that is the problem - if they’re the same as all the other guys with respect to QC, it comes down to fluff and amenities, and they lose there….
I think you should blame the government not Toyota .They keep moving the emission standards every year. So they keep chasing and never-ending red line!

They priced in line with the other manufacturers. Customers are to blame for continuing to pay everytime they hike prices. Supply and demand has always worked the same way. If loans were still cheap people would be lining up to buy them.
Meanwhile everybody is sleeping on Mazda. Easily can get 4k off MSRP.
My only reservation with them is I owned the 2014 Mazda6. The bumper cover was very thin would chip easy as did the paint and many suspension parts had to be replaced. It was also leaking oil in the pistons so I traded it for a 2013 Genesis Coupe Turbo.
Spark plugs not pistons my bad.
Didn't know mazda made a truck
@@atg1338 Mazda B Series not many of them left around.
