They were buried there because back then there was disease called the plague aka the Black Death millions of people died and their cemeteries got to crowded so they made this place. So scary 😩
right and it's cute to leave out the part about how corpses were literally flooding the streets before they decided to do this :/

The transition between the Catacombs and ice cream hit me like a freight train. Could you not have put ANYTHING even remotely related to the Catacombs after going to it?
Hey! I teach an online course over Poe's Cask of Amontillado through Outschool and would LOVE to use this video to show my students what the French catacombs are all about. Is it okay with you if I do? Outschool does record the classes for safety purposes.

About six million buried under the streets of Paris, France. Man that would be like burying the whole population of Houston, Texas under ground as nearly six million people live in Houston, Texas and I was born in Houston, Texas
Yea, and that's just a small part of the catacombs where the bodies are buried.. Imagine how many bodies would fit down there, over 180 miles of tunnels. And catacombs of Odessa in Ukraine, there's over 1550 miles of tunnels.. That's pretty massive.. =P

The Catacombs are actually quite peaceful & not at all creepy.As for the ice-cream,well it's simply unsurpassable.

i wonder how deep the catacombs go, it would be interesting if they ended at the center of the earth or something. It would probably take days to get their tho
angel 132 steps down and a depth of 20 metres, equivalent to the size of a five storey building, the catacombs lie deeper than the Metro and sewer systems.

Obviously they were taken apart. They were probably cremated partially so that their bones just remained and then the people took them down there and stacked them up.

Yea were they are is not scary but there is restricted parts were u can't go and is dark and spooky
that's why they're restricted.
They change the routes here a lot and of course it's lit. The lights and the germs from visitors degrades the place with fungus and stuff, you know, the lights wear down the bones unnaturally, so they change the routes a lot. I've gone several times over the past 21 years and have not generally seen the same parts.

It's lit, but not as bright as the video made it appear since they brought their own lighting. I wouldn't say I found it to be scary when I visited. Perhaps a little eerie and a reminder of our mortality that you don't need when there is water dripping from the ceiling or you pass under arches preventing collapses on the way out, but not scary.

It's not scary at all due to it being a tourist place my 8 yr old daughter loved it.
Then never go deeper. You can accidentally get lost. You can find the gate to hell. No joke. People have actually survived and found the end.

Most of them are. They also change the routes for visits down here fairly often, or the foul germs from visitors would destroy the old bones. If there's a part you like a lot, you probably won't see it again on subsequent visits.
The part tourists go through is rather small. There are many miles of catacombs, some with bones but most without that are the off limits areas.
Yeah well, been to " Paris " lots of times and it is a trashy city !
Avoid that nasty tourist trap & go to the riviera....my favorite is Toulon !

I bet some Parisians (and many non-Parisians) are happy that there's a movie about the Paris catacombs! I sure am, but I'm 11, so I can't watch it, anyway. Life sucks sometimes.
