It is always interesting to see differences in Animal psychology. Gusto with Abby, tenacity with Toby and a gigantic heart in the Owner. No wonder life is good!
I just wanna say, this channel has got me through a lot. For some reason when I'm not doing well, I watch your videos and it calms me down and makes me feel happy and appreciate more simple things. I'd love to have something like this one day. Thanks so much for sharing your farm with us.
Miss Abby is high energy and curious and a little flitty - Sheriff Toby is a solid fellow - doesn't talk much unless he has something to say - doesn't act before thinking - they're basically a police force TV drama 😊
When a guard dog runs all the way to the bottom end of the far paddock to see something off, you know in your heart that that is a good dog right there! And let's not forget Toby who didn't leave the main vulnerable area. Those dogs are awesome, you should be proud of yourself Morgan, after all the training you patiently did with them both. It's lovely to see a good dog working and being happy like your two always are. God bless you and congrats on the book signing. Have a great week!
Many people don’t realize too, since a puppy most male puppies will let the girls win at play fighting, and in general male dogs take a step back compared to female dogs. Not surprised at all Abby eats first etc. it’s just how it goes naturally.
Maybe a towel clip (like for holding your beach towel to your chair) would work to secure the hoses to the fence. Wire the hose to the clip, then fasten the clip to the fence. You can order them online.
❤ I'm so glad that your book signing at the Peacham Cafe went so well for you, Morgan. I hope you consider doing MORE book signing events. I'm happy that you're feeling better, too. Yes, thanx for including the "weird" chickens moment of Zen. ❤
If you got any spare worn out hose lying around, you could always permanently attach a small foot long section to the fence, or if you have PVC pipe large enough to fit your hose, permently attach it to the fence so all you have to do is stick the hose in the PVC.
I sent a copy of your book to my granddaughter in Missouri and even though she's only two and a half she loves it! Her parents read it to her all the time. Can't wait for the next book and then the next book and then of course the next book and then the next book!
Hey Morgan! This might seem a little weird because I personally used it to do mass water changes in a mom and pop fish store BUT if you would like an easy way to fill the cattle water trough i recommend taking a piece of U SHAPED PVC so that you almost have a shepards hook for a hose. It is SO convenient to just set the hose on the corner of any tank/edge/trough while you go do other things. No need for securing and no need for worry because the Deep U shape makes for the perfect little security. Hope this helps! ;)
Morgan, when using the big twist tie on your hose: wrap the middle of the twist tie around the hose, use both ends to attach the hose to the fence, that will stabilize the hose for aiming.
Thank you for the Toby Dog story, which is wondrous for the child in us all. Teaching caring, empathy & sharing in this world is fantastic!. May the current and books going forward be just as satisfying for you and may word spread far and away ~
Abby matured so much!! Very proud of her even if she´not my dog at all ahahaha. Thanks for the video. Your happy animals and your well-being became important to me.
Happy to see you are feeling better, at least I think so until you said it's just below 0 and you're sweating. Love looking through the sides of the hoop house, the piled up snow looks like mountains off in the distance, lol. So cool you met with some fans to talk about the book, surprised though that you would be nervous. Everyone looks happy and healthy, all is well at Gold Shaw Farm, thanks Morgan for the update! 🐓🐕🐈🦆❤️👍
Thanks for sharing Morgan. Our border collie was like that in some ways, she would not eat her evening meal until we sat down at the table to eat, only then would she go over to eat her food. I miss my Daisy dog, she was a smart one.
We have stray cat colony near us. And they have an interesting feeding approach we've notice. The younger ones eat first then the older ones seem to stand at attention and are the gaurdians. Wonder if that's what's actually going on with your dogs. Also seems like the few elderly cats will eat first too. We took on two of them. The spare room has become home for them and some stay in our green house or under the deck. Where we have a few apartment totes that they keep warm in and sleep etc
You looked tired early on this video. Recovering from that cold. After your signing you could see how happy & better you felt. It's just shy of 50°F here in Metro Detroit. Sunny & almost no snow left. 🌞
Hi Morgan, congratulations on your book. I gifted copies to several younger family members. Now one wants to hear the stories every night at bedtime. Cannot wait to see the next one. Thanks for sharing your creativity, with honesty and thoughtfulness.
I love your book so much and I am so pleased your book signing went well!!! Abby laying in 'her' straw lounging with those chickens made me so happy and is a tribute to you and all your hard work that you've put into her!! 💖💖💖💖💖
For the water. Consider getting a couple washing machine hoses. Attache them "permantly" to fill the troughs w the other end up to drain. Then attach the main hose to these fill hoses one at a time.
Great video Morgan, My male/female dogs had the same relationship. I know your supposed to feed the alpha first but often they choose the order. My male always waited for her to eat, then when she was done he would dive in.. He was a very calm patient Alpha, but if protection was needed for her, watch out.. Animals will teach us so much more than we think we know.
Glad you’re feeling better. Those dogs are beautiful and it’s awesome how they decide ranking etc. Our Chocolate Lab farm dog passed away a while back and trying to find a dog as good as she was is very hard. Stay warm and safe up there. We too in West Virginia are having very unusually warm weather for this time of year. Today it’s going to be over 50 degrees F. We probably really only had 2 major snow storms so far. Take Care.
It was so awesome to meet you at the book signing! ❤ Laura and I are looking forward to future books and hopefully more signing events. You're doing such a great job with everything. Keep it up! Thank you, Morgan 😊
Toby Dog of Gold Shaw Farm was a very fun book. I was just able to get the audiobook version and can not say how much fun the listen was, thank you Morgan. I can't wait for the follow up book.
Try mounting a hose clamp to a gimbal so it rotate in almost every direction. I would love a Molly book when it’s a scar & not a wound. I think it could help grieving children
Peacham is just a bit too far north to get to easily from Boston in my tiny-batteried EV, but I'm glad your signing was a success! :) Do the cats ever get eggs or pizza or other treats or is it just the dogs?
The cats might get an occasional bit of meat, tuna or sardine, but I don't give them nearly as much diversity as the dogs. Dogs are more omnivorous than cats.
This video was nice! I'm glad the book signing went well. The pizza that you made looks delicious, it looks fancy. There was nice moments with the animals.
About the watering trough - how about fixing a short length of PVC pipe to aim into the the trough. Then all you have to do is stuff the hose into one end to fill it. No need to fiddle with the wire and trying to aim it. Being on a slope, it will drain as soon as you remove the hose.
For the water hose, get one of those broom/rake/shovel wall clamps. Mount in on the fence post 90 degrees so the hose feeds in from the side, it will hold the hose, but you can pull it out easily with one hand.
Yep we have a pit bull mix (Bentley) 12yrs old & a beagle (Pixie) 6yrs old& she rules the roost. He let's her get away with anything she wants. Toby dog & Abby are sooooo beautiful. God bless
As someone who studied cattle farming in college, you're so on point regarding behavior! EVERYONE (Esp a little cat) should be terrified of being underfoot. And every calf requires almost the exact effort that a rescue or purchase needs in order to gain trust / tame. If you have a groomed breed, each new calf is essentially born needing contact, but instinctually terrified of it. Social media always calls them "giant dogs" bc they're affectionate and form bonds, but they're highly guarded prey animals, so not at all dogs. They're always anticipating a fear response.
Hello from California! I have social anxiety too. It happens before the event and after it’s over. The event itself is almost always so enjoyable that I don’t know why I do this to myself!😅
I know this is a repeat comment but... to get the hose to be in a certain place to water all the bigger troughs have you considered putting a clamp on the trough lip? go to a hardware store with a small piece of plastic pipe that you use for watering and buy the necessary clamp, bolt and nuts to attach it to the trough. this will mean that you have to cut the end off of the pipe, this way you can just slip the hose through the clamp and viola you always have the proper placement for each of the troughs.
Wire attached to a 5 pound weight close to the end of the hose will hold hose on bottom of tank and will silently fill tank and not draw attention from animals.
I still remember the numerous incidents Abby caused when she started, and how she shaped to become a failure for guarding birds. She grew out of that phase so nicely she's unrecognisable now, the overdriven dog that would chase birds to the point of injuring them is gone without a trace. You did a damn impressive job fixing her bad personality bias.
a lot of that is just the dog maturing, it's not uncommon for lgd to have problems with chasing/playing (especially flighty chickens) for the first couple years.
So glad to see Abby getting her well-deserved recognition as "Queen". Of course, I agree with it; but I'm not sure the weird chickens will. They probably think they're the only royals on the farm! I'm looking forward to the Abby dog book!!! 😎

Your terrifying "attack dog" is adorable. 😂
The “ trained killer” lmaoo
🤣
“His guard dog is a trained killer!”
She kills them with kindness.

That’s my experience too. It’s not just puppies either. It’s common between well-adjusted, confident adults as well.
@@sswwooppee exactly! Just part of nature and their little social ladder :)
Maybe a towel clip (like for holding your beach towel to your chair) would work to secure the hoses to the fence. Wire the hose to the clip, then fasten the clip to the fence. You can order them online.
Baby Bee's popsicle!! Yes, glad you're feeling better! And glad the book signing went well

First of many we hope. If I could have gotten there from Oregon I sure would have loved to 🐕🦺🦆🐈

Cool seeing Abby dabby girl race off barking and guarding at the end😊 You tell em gurl! 👏
And baby Bea's little horns are so cute, my word😍🥰
it was so good meeting you at the book signing and hanging out, couldn't be happier for that experience (even when my gps went haywire😂)
Thanks for coming out!! It was so much fun!
Thank you for the Toby Dog story, which is wondrous for the child in us all. Teaching caring, empathy & sharing in this world is fantastic!. May the current and books going forward be just as satisfying for you and may word spread far and away ~
My grandpa used to sing the dump song! I may have cried a little...
13:10 Abby is the assistant branch manager!😂
The assistant to the branch manager

I've actually seen Pablo exhibit the same behavior with Ginny.
@@GoldShawFarm they are amazing to watch. We even had one from that colony bring an injured cat food. They work well together!!
@@GoldShawFarm btw Morgan I'm the one that lost her cat for almost three weeks this summer. He's.older ..vet think he has early dementia.
11:30 😆 The geese doing laps around the hoop house like senior citizens getting some exercise at the mall.
😂 That’s exactly how it was!!!!
😅😅
Glad you are feeling better! Healthy is always better!

My dog and I love watching your channel together.
I really appreciate the tender+wholesome moments! Absolutely LOVE the farm dog relationship dynamics being described
Thanks for explaining Abby/Toby behavior at the end there. It's been really fun & interesting watching Abby's growth.
Hi Morgan, congratulations on your book. I gifted copies to several younger family members. Now one wants to hear the stories every night at bedtime. Cannot wait to see the next one. Thanks for sharing your creativity, with honesty and thoughtfulness.

Readers are great people! Glad the signing went well!
Omg how did I miss this video ….
You did a a signing congratulations I love that I wish I could have been there ! Stay fabulous Morgan
Merci Morgan!
Abby's alert bark roused my reactive dog to go bark out the window. She's special.
For the water. Consider getting a couple washing machine hoses. Attache them "permantly" to fill the troughs w the other end up to drain. Then attach the main hose to these fill hoses one at a time.
You should use one of those hose holders you use for the clothes washer hose on your washing machine.
signings make you feel like a rock star. Enjoy the moment, Morgan. Hopefully more to come.

These videos are so unbelievable wholesome! Always a treat when a new one shows up in the feed.
So very glad you’re signing went so well. Take care!
If there is anyone that completely deserves to consume some purely positive, in person (long overdue) appreciation, that would be you Morgan!
Morgan, thank you for sharing your life with me.. I'm so happy you didn't let the 'fights' win; you're an inspiration for me and I needed it

I really enjoyed the Toby dog book. I bought the book and the audio book. Would have loved to come to Peacham but I'm in Hampshire, England.
A magnetic clip of sorts would work great for your hose connection, and works through all weather.
Try mounting a hose clamp to a gimbal so it rotate in almost every direction. I would love a Molly book when it’s a scar & not a wound. I think it could help grieving children

I love everything about this channel
@gold shaw farm theres a product call flexible laundry machine discharge hose clip holder, its a flexible rod with velcros on it

This is so amazing 😮
LadyAbby dog queen of the birds 😮😮😮 after the white duck/goose incident. She’s maturing so much 🥰🥰🥰
Toby is just best guy ever!
It's 6:08pm west coat time. Just finished watching your video... I love Abbs personality...
Good nite..
❤🙋🏼♀️🐈🐕✨️
Can we please have a Baby Bee book?!? She is soooo cute!
Me getting teary eyed during the emotional bit - yeah, I felt that through the screen before you mentioned it.
You can mount your watering hose for the cattle using a zip-tie and a guitar capo. Hope that helps. :)

thank you for sharing your animals with the rest of us!
Thanks for the video !
Long live queen abby.....❤❤❤❤❤😊😊😊😊😊

After making almond milk, the pulp is a greatvaddition ti whole grain brand muffins. But your feedingvthem to the chickens is a good use too.
My cat likes to watch your ducks and chickens on the screen. Pausing until I have a cat up on the side desk.
Glad you enjoyed the book signing. Do you think the weird rooster will mate with Carmen? The chicks would be interesting.
I'm hoping so!
That is so funny when he was singing the dump song because I have saying that before also😂
How about the wire device used to hold the drain hose for a cloths washer?
Doggies ALWAYS deserve the treats❤️
Attach a stainless steel hose clamp to the fence rail with a second stainless steel hose clamp. Adjust it to accept the hose with a slip fit.
Morgan, wish I could have made it but I’m quite far away. If you do another one please put the date out farther in advance!

What a good dog Toby lady first
You sang my dad's dump song from my childhood!! And all this time, I sincerely thought he made that up!
Beautiful chickens
It would be interesting to see some of the early geese breeding behavior you mention and how they are pairing?
So glad to see Abby getting her well-deserved recognition as "Queen". Of course, I agree with it; but I'm not sure the weird chickens will. They probably think they're the only royals on the farm! I'm looking forward to the Abby dog book!!! 😎

Can you print a hose holder, clamp it on to the gate and just hold the hose? wouldnt be permanent and adjustable as you need to move it or slide it.
Toby is just a gentleman.
Damn. I wish i had known that book event was happening. (My fault: fell off the channel for a bit for life reasons)
