Great video talking about hook grip. That being said one of the best instructional videos I've seen and the way it works best for me is from Greg Everett in the sense of oly lifting. Use the thumb as a "wrap" and do not pinch it against the bar. Chris does a good example of this by talking about how he rotates his wrists to get set before he starts the pull. It takes a lot of getting used to and pain but one of if not the most powerful grip in strength training sports.( like a monkey grip or gable grip for wrestling). Wrap the thumb underneath as Chris shows in the video and trap it. Do not pinch against the bar. Awesome content Ben.
Nice video. I have pretty big hands, so getting hook grip to work hasn't really been an issue. But I'm still excited to try getting more pressure on my pinkies. Currently, the way I hook grip, I don't think my pinky is doing much of anything, which seems like wasted potential. You're looking big, Ben 💪
Tried hook tried using Sean Noriega's advice and overall I just gave up on it. Even if I can get the hook grip technique down I just think mixed will feel more secure and stable.
You've been gone for a while but I just wanna say your videos are insanely informative and helpful, absolutely top tier channel.
What happened to him. Why hasn’t he posted anymore vids ?
Massive delts, looking great Ben
Thanks man!
thanks a lot Ben & Chris, this resolves issues I had w the hook grip esp the caution against pulling the bar back in to yourself while hook gripping
After 2 workouts with these tips my deadlift increased. Thanks.
The idea of trying to get as much pressure onto the ring/pinky finger as I can helped my hook tremendously.
Thank you so much for this. I will finally try hook grip now!
This is a great video. This combined with Chris’s cue of wrapping the bar around your body makes the deadlift so simple . Thank you
Saw you training at hardcore barbell the other day just dropping by to help your algorithm!!
Thank you!
Yep, Hook is a mechanical lock technique. I can only do it properly with a DL bar, but when I do, it doesn’t hurt as much as it’s pressure.
