  • Beat the heat and keep the eski chilled longer with this DIY ice brick tutorial! This is a simple and effective method to make ice bricks that freeze colder and last longer than traditional store-bought ice.
In this great hack video, Sammy covers:
    - The materials you'll need to create your own ice bricks, including water, table salt, a mixing spoon, and molds.
    - How to prepare the saltwater solution, which lowers the freezing point of water, allowing it to freeze colder and thus last longer.
    - Step-by-step instructions for pouring the mixture into molds and the proper freezing time to ensure optimal performance.
    - How to demold your ice bricks and pack them for the best cooling results.
    - An alternative method using old milk bottles for those who prefer a ready-made solution.
This DIY project is not only easy but also cost-effective, helping you keep your bait, fish, food and drinks cold for extended periods during your adventures.

Salt water doesn't make a colder ice block, it will make the iceblock melt at a lower temperature. This means that when the ice does melt the slurry will be BELOW zero, which is great for when you want to transfer the 'cold' (for instance quickly chilling warm cans or stubbies). But unless you want a salty slurry in the bottom of your esky, go with fresh water.

Salt water has a lower freezing temperature than fresh water, but this doesn't mean that if fresh water is left in a freezer, normally set to -18 deg Celsius, that it will be warmer than the salt water. Salt and fresh water will both end up at the same temp, the freezer temp. In fact the salt water ice will just melt quicker, so I would have thought fresh water ice would be better if you want it to stay solid.

I agree with you Danny - the fresh water will last longer in an esky and if you need to you can drink it at the end. Useful if you are heading out for a day on the water.

Hi, why not just put the lids on the plastic ware to stop it wetting everything in the esky? The ice would last longer with the insulation of the box around it too. Why not put water crystals in to make a jell that's reusable and thicker to last even longer. PS a dash of food dye, blue looks good too.

    That'd be a Tablespoon, not a Teaspoon...
