  • Dry ice is solid carbon dioxide and is super cold at -109.3°F or -78.5°C. While this can make dry ice a ton of fun for at-home activities and very useful in science experiments and demonstrations, it also means there are important guidelines to follow when using dry ice so that everyone stays safe. Read our do’s and don’ts of dry ice safety and check out our dry ice safety video!
Top Five Do’s and Don’ts of Dry Ice Safety:
    1. Don’t eat or drink dry ice
    2. Don’t store dry ice in an airtight container
    3. Never touch dry ice directly
    4. Only use dry ice under adult supervision
    5. Give yourself and dry ice some breathing room

Very informative thank you but I wanted more questions answered; like how long does it take dry ice to melt and can you use dry ice to cool down and keep your car cool in the dead heat of summer? Can you use it as an air conditioning cool down somehow in a bedroom or house if the a/c goes out; if so how?

So after it melts, it's ok to .... dump in the grass? dispose in the garbage can? you didn't really say what's safe, just what not to do.

Anyone know if Penguin dry ice is "food grade"? In other words, no contaminants like lubricants. I've contacted Penguin through their web site and all their social channels and they won't answer. Many people are using dry ice to refill carbonation canisters like SodaStream. If there are lubricants, that is getting infused into the beverages people are making. Suspicious that Penguin won't respond.

Ok ive worked at a place where i had a lot of dry ice to throw away. The child in me knew how to have fun. But with all the safety stuff here, i never had issue with hold it in my hand and never needed glasses. To this day i still have fun but everyone around me treat its like its the plague. Dont get it.
