If there's one thing I really appreciate about team-games, it's the ability to give low-tiers and straight up bad characters an actual fighting chance (heh).
Seeing your favorite character be considered so bad that they're basically a handicap can be disheartening. But knowing you could find a niche for them can be great
What made me cringe at having worst character(s) aside from buffing them is that they wasted a slot for requested potential characters (X, Jin Satome, Cyclops, and Captain Falcon should be in UMvC3 instead tho-)
Honestly if Hsien-Ko just had her sauce from Darkstalkers she'd probably be upper mid, and an interesting character to see in play
She also has a TAC infinite I think too… man it’s crazy that even the low tier has a unique sauce of their own

I remember her reveal trailer in vanilla MvC3 showing it off.
As a Vampire Saviour fan, It's sad to see my main be bad in another game. But it's cool that Hsien-Ko can still do some good in High-level game play in MVC3.
She's bad but not unplayable. The assist is god tier with gold armor and she has a fantastic backdash, and gong reflector invalidates a lot of gameplans. But ultimately any Hsien Ko team will be brutally weak to snapping her into anchor before she goes gold.
Sauceboss is another player that makes her work.
Playing Marvel after Darkstalkers it feels like she became twice as slow, especially that depressing air dash
My team was jill her and modok. I had no plans on winning any games lol 😅
I don't think Hsein-Ko is so bad on paper to be honest. The meta is so focused on aggressive gameplay that they're looked at her from the wrong perspective. I'm not saying she's top tier but I think there are worse characters in the game when consider her as a zoner and counter zoning character. Her projectiles are supposed to cover all of her angles, while she has a chance to combo after her light projectile throw on grounded opponents. Her gong reflects and nulifies all projectiles while being a projectile of its own. She's got large hitboxes on her normals and a really good plink backdash to get away from the opponent. If you play her defensively and with some solid assists you get a pretty decent character.
For the Versus series, usually if a character debuts from a fighting game, they amp up their sauce.
It's weird how much they took away from Hsien-Ko.
I genuinely believe they assumed the hyper armor special along with tools such as strong mix ups and reliable OTGs would make her busted.

One thing to really appreciate about team games like Marvel is even the low tiers are usable competitively, because team building helps you cover their weaknesses with stronger characters. This also provides a naturally balancing factor.
It's too bad she doesn't hop, she's teleports. Considering that she'd supposed to be a Jiang shi.

One other funny thing about the character is that H Anki Hou (the high item throw) actually hits overhead. Haven't seen anyone use that for anything so far, but you can theoretically do a solo high-low unblockable with it.
back when SRK data was alive, Hsien Ko fell short 227 units to even be considered a valid character

i was so sad when i play her on mv3 for the first time cause in darkstalkers she was one of the best and now she is often forgotten

I fucking love this channel. I have never played or really watched mvc3, but these videos explain things so clearly and are really informative and well edited
One other mildly weird and not helpful thing about Hsien-ko. is that the super she tends to end combos with will also almost always have a slight variance in amount of hits. Making her damage a little weird in certain situations. It's a shame though she's really cool and fun and is just bogged down with some of the worst movement in the game without as much as other characters have to back them up.

Eh, i think shes under valued. Her assist if you setup is easily a top 3 assist. Her support is amazing. Shes not that much worse than say Phoenix wright or nemesis
She’s a gimmick character, at best. Normally I’m one to enjoy the lower tier characters but I feel Hsien-ko is only good against people who are unfamiliar with her playstyle and therefore are ignorant of the matchup.
Give or take a few matches and any decent player will wipe the floor with her. She’s not undervalued, she’s just a poorly designed character, and justifying her use with an assist means nothing when snap backs exist and can force her in before she can even use her hyper armor

Hsien Ko has been seen in high level play and has been made to work. Shes not super awful. People over downplay her. She has good normals and a top tier assist. Its not a gimmick, its real, and it beats any move in the entire game and cannot be stopped. Its literally a better lariat and a bionic arm in an assist.
Almost ANY character in UMVC3 is viable. Sacktap uses Arthur, nemesis and Ghost Rider for god sakes.

Vergil, Doom, Wolverine, Mags, Dante, Zero, Morrigan, Dorm, Modok, Spencer, Nova, Phoenix, Strider, Arthur, Nemesis, Ghost Rider, Iron Fist, Storm, Akuma, Frank, Taskmaster, Shuma, Hawkeye, Rocket Raccoon, Iron Man, X23, Hsien Ko, Hulk, Sentinel, Chris, Wesker, Capt America, Phoenix Wright, dr strange are all viable and have done well in tournaments over the years.
You can win with Hsien Ko. She has cheap shit. Her cheap shit isnt super good, but she HAS VIABLE tech.
@@yourstillwithme Her assist is no where near top three. Because it's immune to hit stun, it also takes unscaled damage It literally dies to one XF1 HSentinelForce, and other things. It's a decent gimmick, but it IS a gimmick, and easily countered in ways that make her actually completely useless.

When I played UMVC3 regularly, there was ONE Hsien-Ko player, and that person had it on LOCK DOWN.
Part of what made UMVC3 cool was there were enough options to make every character viable, and the roster was pretty diverse.
Part of what made UMVC3 not fun to play was that any 3-character team could one-touch-kill. It is not fun at all to lose on an incoming crossup and know that you can just set the controller down because that character is 100% dead and there's nothing you can do about it.
Pain this used to be one of my favorite characters when I first and only time I was able to play a darkstalkers game (I played a flash version online)
I’d like to see a video about my man Phoenix Wright, and how people have used really unconventional shells to make him work. I.E. the PW Dante Joe team or the PW Cap Strange team.
Some of the shit I've seen mid tiers do in the hands of specialists in this game makes me say if you wanna use whoever you want go for it. Like this was my first fighting game and I wanted to learn Super Skrull so I did and stuck with him. Now i can beat top tiers with him on my team no problem like there's so much synergizing in this game you can figure out how to make characters you like work.

Vampire Savior version of Hsien Ko is indeed a mid tier. But she's either a high A tier or an S tier in Super Gem Fighter (aka Pocket Fighter).

To be honest, this does make me appriciate Hesin Ko more. Even though it's a huge sign she's the worst character in UMVC3, she does have alot of potientals as a support

Ari was hands down Orlando's best umvc3 player. At the time he was also ahead of Dr.Salt & Mundank.

How bad is she? I forgot she was in the game until I saw the title card.
She actually has a meter limited infinite off any hard knockdown, gong into weightdroo, so she can be deadly.
If she could plink dash her invisible teleport dash, it would be good but she's still slow. I saw someone say she can, never seen it used though.

Hsien-Ko was always a really weird pick for inclusion but what was weirder was that despite the support she must have had in the dev offices (it wasn't fan demand that got her in the game, that's for sure), nobody bothered to make her a good character in any way. Why would you add a character fans didn't want and then not even make her good?
Everybody knows it should have been Jedah in the game but then they went and added him to an irrelevant game, Instead.

MvC 3 is such an ugly looking game compared to MvC2 and it’s contemporaries . One of the worst I’ve ever seen and it made the game unplayable for me and it was the last fighting game I ever touched because it was the only series I enjoyed and they ruined it

So basically the character went to the trash after the entire playerbase learned how to exploit a movement glitch that wasn't meant to be used nor factored into the gameplay.
No that's not correct. She literally has the worst movement in the entire game worst then characters like Hulk won't can't plink or Arthur who can't dash at literally because she has no reliable forward moving attacks.
