GL - you mentioned that the keepers have not been feeding them on the roof. I've wondered previously if those black metal bars in the roof ever get too hot from the sun for the gorillas to hold onto. I know that when i leave my car out in the sun in summertime that the outside gets hot enough to cause burns.

Dear GL! The worry for the people of Kyoto and the inhabitants of the zoo is now stuck in my heart and brain. I hope that the earthquake will pass you by or will not be strong. Even though Gentaro's wounds are not deep, their number is growing. I think that the keepers see from the cameras where these wounds come from. Unfortunately, the zoo cannot now fix the situation of the eldest son of the gorillas. This is very sad.

Yes I saw Mimi and Gentaro go at it a few days ago. Luckily it didn’t last long. GL I sure do worry about these beautiful creatures in the zoo during earthquakes. Of course I worry about our beautiful gorillas but they would all be in danger. I pray for the people of Japan to be safe as well as the animals. You too GL! ❤️

Once a quake happens somewhere, in other area another one will occur. Everything is deeply closed on the earth. Next would be New Zealand or Indonesia.
I understand your concerns about earthquakes. I live on the Cascadia Subduction Zone, a part of the Pacific Ring of Fire. Quite a thing to have in common! 😅 We have tsunami warning signs all along our coastline as well. The other area needs to be open so Gentaro will be protected from Momo Momo is a bully and rather harsh on his family. Gentaro will get seriously injured because there will be a natural parting of ways of the males within the gorilla group. He needs his own space and to get his own female in his own habitat. I pray for Gentaro his future looks very bleak and uncertain. The zoo is not letting us know about any plans for the gorillas welfare.
Gentaro is really becoming a very handsome gorilla! His legs are not as muscular as Momotaro’s but it won’t be long before Gentaro catches up in size. The heat must be slowing Kintaro down. He is usually the first to a feeder for the beans but Gentaro was faster today! 😂
I wish Gentaro and Momotaro would live peacefully the way Shabani and Kiyomasa do. It feels like Shabani troop is always upbeat and happy, with good vibes... whereas Momotaro troop feels like constant anxiety....Gentaro rampages, Momotaro paranoid of men in hard hats, while Kintaro tries his best to avoid having his food stolen by Genki 🤣

Why build a gorilla enclosure without air conditioning? Particularly when it is known to get very hot? You say it is outside. Does this mean there is no indoors for the gorillas? Thank you for the information.
@thewisepowerchair2369 I think he said they weren't going to use the second ground for Gentaro and Kintaro until the weather got cooler. I hope they don't keep putting them out there when it starts getting too cool.
The rooms indoors are air-conditoned. There are sprinklers outside. Mists are emited at several points. In addition sheets to avoid the direct sunlight are placed on the roof top.

There are so many other foods they can eat and should be besides grass and leaves they rely on humans to feed them a balanced diet,I have seen it in other zoos,food is plentiful and lots of it,so much so they don't need to fight for it,this zoo should be doing the same ,it is not good enough in my opinion.

They do have an air-conditioned area indoors. They have also installed fans or some other sort of cooling device outside, I'm not sure what exactly.

動物園のゴリラに甘い果物を与えるのは何故ですか？野生のゴリラは甘い果物なんか食べられる環境ではなく、固い木の枝や木の根や葉っぱや草だけ食べて生活していて、それに適応出来る体になってますよね？甘い果物を食べさせて虫歯になってしまってひどいと聞きますが。
果物を食べること自体は悪くはないです。
人間用の果物は糖分が高く、甘い。それは食べ過ぎるとダメですね。
ですから、京都市動物園では、甘い果物を与えることはほとんどないです。
例外として、氷のおやつ、数字のお勉強、誕生日、そして健康診断の時。
しっかりと甘い果物を食べるのは誕生日と健康診断の時ぐらいです。
虫歯になるレベルではないかと思います。
あと、果物だけでなく、野菜もほんとうはたくさんあげない方が良いです。
野菜にも糖分が入っていますからね。人間用に作られた野菜は全て甘いです。
なので、京都市動物園は、野菜の量が少ないです。野菜をあげるにしても糖分の低い野菜を少量あげてるだけ。
食糧の調達はかなり大変です。
ゴリラが食べる牧草や草や葉や枝って、人間が食べないので、あまり流通していません。
山のオーナーに頼んで特別に仕入れたり、東北から取り寄せたりなんかもしてるようです。
フードドネーションで、民間企業から刈り取った枝や葉を貰ってるのはかなり助かってるでしょうね。自然のものなので。
一方で、これまた難しいのが、農薬です。
人間が食べる果物、野菜、そして園芸の植木でさえも。
農薬が使われています。自然界には農薬などありません。
ゴリラに限らず、野生にしかいない動物を飼育してる場合、餌問題は深刻でしょう。物価高により、仕入れ値も高騰していますしね。

Keep in mind Genki can’t eat a lot of fruits and veggies with a lot of natural sugars. She has rotten teeth because of the other zoo she lived in.

@@CaseyNahan Me too! They feed them the diet closest to what they would eat in the jungle. I think they are the best in shape gorillas ,all muscle and strong. This zoos loves them and they do the best they can as far as I am concern
