Did this on one occasion before, I was in a rush so I didn’t bother to take the jeans off - living with a pegleg has been a big change to my life but I make it work, great video
Thanks for this one! I taught myself how to do this a while back, but still learned something new today. Those pants are pretty tapered, so a straight hem makes sense. For wider cuffs that go over the full mouth of my shoes, I make the hem slightly lower in the back so the pants look like they are just resting on my shoes. Looks very sharp!
Definitely need a heavy duty machine to go through that doubled over side seam on the cuffs. I hemmed my bonobos washed chinos on a regular home sewing machine and it was not happy going over that part of the pant leg. Had to hand crank it a bit to help the needle through.
I've only ever hemmed one pair of slacks and did it by hand and it was tedious as hell. I will never learn how to use a sewing machine. If I can't get the pants the proper length to start with, I'll go to a tailor. Tell Louis not to worry -- when it comes to clothing, most guys have my mindset -- his job is safe. I do like watching him work though. (whew)
I do it with a regular sewing machine too. A regular needle can do it, though I find going slowly makes it less likely to snap. Better off just using a denim needle.
When I was a kid in the 70's we used to wear these Gabardine pants.. They never came hemmed.. Neither did jeans for that matter.. We called those Dungarees and they were VERY informal. So as an early teen, I would hem my own pants regularly using a needle and thread.. Then in the 80's I guess pants started coming already hemmed or with categorized inseams. This brings me back! I wish I had just learned how to use my mom's sewing machine.. It just wasn't gender appropriate back then... I think I'm going to find a 2nd hand machine and try this out... I'm good a measuring stuff.. I measure pipes and all sorts of stuff for a living... Being an electrician translates to alot of different mechanical arts and I think sewing might be one of them.. Gonna try to dart some shirts too... Maybe 😂😂 Thank you Sir for another brilliant video... #BigFan
😂go for it Kevin! I have several guy friends who earn their living as seamststers. I think you will be a quick study, especially if you are manual. Good luck!
This method is unnecessarily long and difficult and you lose the original hem. There is another method where you shorten the jeans by folding and cutting above the original hem while still keeping the original hem which looks more professional.

Sewing can be very challenging, esp for those who, like me, have always had a tailor you could trust. Thank for sharing it! Nice content!
That was excellent. But isn't it important to do cross stitching on selvedge jeans?
Yep I’ll be going to the tailor lol🤯🤯🤯

kongmw might have been your needle. We have a plain old basic home sewing machine and I've done jeans and Bonobos wanted Chinos without trouble.

Works good if jean seam thread is the same color as the jean. But if the thread is like orange maybe he can show how to keep the original edge.
Steve Steele that’s a much more in-depth video! But will be done!
The original hem is made using a chain stitch, I hope that helps some.

Are you going to do a review on ESNTLS?
I got lost with the different measurements and folds. As Louis suggested, I would have to practice on old or cheap pants.

Not everyone likes the "original hem"
When needing the jeans done quickly that’s a good method but doesn’t allow you to cuff the jeans without it looking done at home.
Really interesting to see how this works! It does look pretty straightforward...with some practice and IF you have a sewing machine!
True. I feel like everyone’s mom or aunt has one though... right?
Haha...so true!
This dude can't be a certified tailor. He didn't even talk about tapering the leg...
Jim Thomas haha don’t worry that video is coming
I literally have a sewing machine phobia.
It makes me wince everytime I see one.
Thanks for the trigger warning.
Tome like !
Too complicated for me. I'll pay my taylor $7 to do it instead
