    In this video we put the 7.5 FK BRNO through the InRange mud test.
    I do realize the bucket is more than 1 liter, I misspoke.

    • @Kesssuli
      @Kesssuli 2 ปีที่แล้ว +28

      Most likely all hammerfires would fail in similiar way. Dirt between hammer and pin is going to be very much instant instant failure to fire. Striker fires are bit more sealed against dirt but nothing will save either of them when dirt gets into action and blocking full lockup.

    • @panvlk
      @panvlk 2 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      I guess it would probably fail similarly. I don't think there's much mechanical difference between FK and CZ75 apart from the counteweight below the barrel.

      I suspect mud got into a small, sensitive place. Extractor perhaps. The gun would go into battery with no round, but not chamber a round. I hope Karl tells us the failure point when he finds it. As for the Luger, it may have done well in the mud test but it had to be the hardest gun to get clean afterwards (other than the X95).

    Personally love my PSD, no regrets about purchasing. Now I know not to carry it in an Uncle Mike's holster while working near wheelbarrows full of mud.
    Can't say I'm all that surprised though. It's a tight gun. Lots of tiny little spaces where mud can get in but can't exit easily. I have to wonder too how much the counterweight comes into play here. That's a lot of mass, adding friction to that movement could impact everything.

    • @ryaniam22
      @ryaniam22 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Probably not remotely realistic anyways. I doubt anyone since the trench fighting warfare of WW1 have ever experienced getting this muddy in combat. Never in the middle east. Maybe some in Vietnam but even that is unlikely. It probably functions incredibly reliably in normal 'dusty' conditions which is about as much debris anyone is ever realistically going to get in this thing. These tests are almost jronic

      @@ALegitimateTH-camr I disagree, the ballistics and intent of the cartridge are completely different between 5.7FN and 7.5 FK. The primary purpose of 5.7 was to provide a low recoil pdw cartridge that was capable of piercing light body armor, while the purpose of 7.5 was to make a handgun cartridge that would generate muzzle energy equivalent to a light rifle or magnum revolver. When you compare the two ballistically, the 5.7 is basically a hotter .22 mag with a better ballistic coefficient while the 7.5 is basically a .30 carbine cartridge that can attain M1 carbine 18 inch barrel velocities from a 5 inch barrel, so it is optimized for pistols. 5.7 isn't since it was primarily designed to be used in P90s with 10 inch barrels.

      Nope. Didn't have to. Could have unloaded it, plugged it, then loaded it again. That was laziness on his part.
      That being said, while I understand why gun safety is often taken to such religious levels, I don't think he was actually doing anything particularly dangerous there. When people just normally carry their pistols, the reality is that it's pointing at them frequently. If they are on the second (or higher) floor of a building, they might be muzzle sweeping other people as well in cases where the bullet would be capable of penetrating the floor. If they have a round in the chamber, it's no less dangerous than what he did.
      However, as an influential content creator it's his duty to promote safety and as such I think he should have taken the few extra seconds to not put his hand in front of the muzzle.

      that rule is to prevent people pointing guns and other people for fun or out of inattention. What he did wasn't an educated risk. The amount of bad luck he would've needed to damage his finger by unwanted discharge of the gun would constitute a miracle.
      It's actually less dangerous than someone running his finger over a knife edge or licking jam from his knife.

    I have to ask, because fk has no information about the cartridge dimensions available. but is the 7.5 fk straight walled like the 5.7x28? I want to know if it's possible to make a big p90 chambered in 7.5 and can still have the same style straight horizontal magazine

      The fatness of the cartridge makes it somewhat impractical for pccs i think. The p90 has thin bullets that stack neatly but these fat 7.5 bullets will take long magazines.

    In general, short-recoil tilting-barrel type pistols tend to do really poorly in the mud test. For all the advantages of the system, it doesn't seem to handle mud very well.
    With that in mind, it's probably more interesting to test pistols that use other systems, be they straight blowback, delayed blowback, blow-forwards, some non-tilting barrel short-recoil, or if there are any long-recoil or gas-operated pistols.

      Don't the Desert Eagles use the AR-15's gas-injection system? Do those count as pistols?

    • @PhycoKrusk
      @PhycoKrusk 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Glocks and other striker-fired guns seem to do better, if only because there are fewer places for mud to get into the action compared to an external hammer. The Desert Eagle is the only gas-operated pistol I can think of off-hand, but I'm sure there are more. I honestly just can't think of many instances where you might drop your pistol into thick mud like that; maybe if you were out in the field with it holstered and you _fell_ in the mud. But most places where I think of carrying a pistol (that isn't a large frame revolver) have paved streets and sidewalks and not much mud to speak of.
      Maybe this is short-sightedness on my part, I don't know

    It seems like the most reliable pistols in the mud test are ones with no slide and with the rails inside the gun like the Luger and guns like this one and the CZ-75 with the slide inside the frame rails preform the worst.
    My theory is a well sealed machine pistol style fixed barrel closed bolt straight blowback pistol with a dust cover would preform the best. However it would most likely be a bad pistol.
    If the mud tests have shown us anything it is that you want tight tolerances on the outside so mud cannot get in and loose tolerances on the inside so that if it does get in the gun will work around it. That and big controls with lots of leverage so they don't get stuck.
