How to replace the control arm bushings on Alfa Romeo 159, Brera and Spider 939

  • Hello guys! Irregular tire wear always has to do with the suspension geometry. This geometry can and will change over the years due to wear of parts, lowering the car. Due to warping and incorrect alignment.
    This solution actually works for most brands and models and completely resolves the symptom. Valid for 156, 147, GT, 159, Brera, Spider 939 and others.
    Neutral at the front axle, no toe in or out, factory setting ant the back.

    Very correct. I changed both arms after doing the geometry and had no more problems.

    I wonder, if replacement of bushes in the upper arm would fix their squeaking noises. I found poliurethane bushes, but not sure if it's easy to replace them

      Hello. Usually the noise comes from that, but I do not recommend PU, usually they get loose very fast.

    Hi, thanks for the videos. Need some advice as I am looking for a Alfa Romeo. Is 159 a good car in general and what engines would be the best looking for. Thanks.

    • @DashCamSerbia
      @DashCamSerbia 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      It is a high quality premium car. But some parts are no longer manufactured, even by aftermarket brands. You can get some of those parts, somewhere in the world where they have new-old-stock, but it will be expencive. It is a car for the enthusiasts, not for regular people, who just want to drive it and take it for the oil change once a year.
      I have a 2010 159 2.2 JTS, and it is great. But I don't care if some part costs 500 euros for it, as long as I can buy it.
      For the petrol engines, 2.2 JTS is the best, because it is the middle of the range, lighter and cheaper to run then the 3.2 and not rare as a 1.75 TBi (for which parts are even less available). The 1.9 JTS is OK, but a bit too weak for me. 1.8 MPI is the Opel engine, and it is the weakest, but the simpliest, most reliable and cheapest to maintain.
      For diesels, don't realy know much. All of them are good if they are not the DPF version.

    I have a question and i can’t find the answer on the net, i bought the couple of bushing from febi (n.36160 and 36161) they fit perfecly but the one on the driver side is slightly stiffer than the passenger side which flexes more easily… i am unsure if this is wanted or an error from febi. If you can help me, thank you Bruno

    I think I will need to replace mine as well, on the left side. I don't have a press or a vise, so I am not sure about doing this myself. How did you mount the new one in?
    Lemforder or TRW (or Corteco or Birth) are unavailable, as you said, but Febi is. Usually, I try to avoid brands like Febi because they are not the manufacturers. I was only able to find SKF one, but not locally. So I will buy Febi locally then. Or take the car to the dealer, if they even want to do this job (and have parts).

    • @alfaromeonoproblem
      @alfaromeonoproblem  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hello, from the dealership I think that bushing is not available. For the supplier, TRW was the original manufacturer.
      To remove it you can chisel it out, but be careful with the control arm it is very soft.
      To insert it, a bit of tire mounting compound is perfect and then with a rubber mallet.

    Interesting, will need to keep an eye out on tyre wear and see if mine are also bad. I was wondering since my 159 is lowered (by the previous owner, non Ti model by about 20-30mm) what kind of alignment should i do? I already had one done when i bought new tyres but the steering wheel is still pointing slightly left when going straight

      Hello. Zero at the front, factory at the back. Make sure they do it well at the back, if not the steering is not going to be good

      @@alfaromeonoproblem Just checked the manual, not entirely sure what the numbers mean, but if I tell them neutral at the front they should understand? And as for the back factory setting, should I tell them to use the Ti version because it's lowered (manual states Ti is 20mm lower so should be about the same as mine currently) or just the standard?

    Heya, loving your content.
    Im having a small problem, i own a 156 2.4JTD and one day before going to work i started the car and accidentally hit the wipers, when i realized it a lot later ofc they arent working but im trying to troubleshoot why, since the motors dont make any noise BUT when i try windshield washer it doesnt work aswell... Feeling like the whole left side of my steering wheel controls took the punch instead (the relay of the wipers is untouched aswell) any ideas would be appreciated 😊

    Is it not better to replace the whole arm, sine you need to remove it anyway? Not to meantion that the other bushing that was not replaced might need replacing soon. And there is also metal fatiuge that needs to be taken into conscideration. Or not?

    • @alfaromeonoproblem
