The idea of an unstoppable force in a horror game endlessly chasing you around a giant building while you’re trying to solve puzzles and dodge zombies is such a brilliant mechanic. It gives these games this anxiety induced feeling, you’re never really safe unless you’re in your little save room
Mr. X is probably the best mechanically designed stalker enemy I’ve ever encountered in a horror game. He’s just roaming around at random and following sounds the player makes. If you don’t use a weapon, run, or trigger one of his scripted moments with a puzzle then it’s just complete happenstance if you run into him or not and I think that’s really cool.
Re2R is to this day my favorite RE Engine game. I still love the people who insist X doesn't sandbox and every single one of these interactions is coded into the game.

It pointlessly retcons character motivations, the acting is awful, the writing is horrible, and the glacially slow combat from Re7 continues to be ill-suited to action games. Some of the character designs are good and that's about it.

Not gona lie resiident evil mr X made me play the game much slower nd carefully coz this guy legit hunts u down for a quite a portion of the game its scary if u play without headphones game it will show fears whn he finds u

I'll never forget doing the second run, and Mr X suddenly shows up in the STARS hallway early. Completely threw off my plans on getting certain items 😂
If you do all the search and leave just to grab the pieces of the Chief's lock in the end (extinguishing the choppers fire), you'll barely see old gray face there. And if you make your search going from safe room to safe room (Stars office and photo office) and not engaging combat (he'll flip if looses his hat), you'll be ok.

What is interesting is only in the Original games you learn that mr x was meant to kill all the wittnesess in a document here its left fully to the Imagination why this thing is chasing you adding a layer of mysterie
