FYI, Team Silent hired Guy Cihi not because they wanted unprofessional actor who can act weird and awkward, Guy Cihi sounded just like the guy they wanted to see in James's shoes. And that guy turned out to be a first time actor who got this job almost accidentally (his daughter convinced him to try, while he wasn't originally planning to try it). There was no intention that you imply here, the rest of the actors were professional. Angela was the only character they wanted to sound awkward and she was voiced by a professional whom they rehired for sh3
And I thought that actor sounded great, just fine compared to the comical vocal performances of, say, Resident Evil 1, kind of the pinnacle of bad voice acting (though endearingly loved).
Alisa is probably the only "PS1 style inspired" Indie game that actually manages to capture the PS1 style aesthetic and feel perfectly. Not just some slapped on low poly models with a headache inducing filter.
Hey folks - this is a reupload from my other channel Ceronesthes - this video was originally uploaded after halloween, hence why I apologized for it being late. Pupprtcombo already made a game like this called the Glass Staircase. Fixed camera, rendered backgrounds and tank controls. It was a nice departure from their usual content
If not already done you really should try out Tormented Souls.^^ Great mix of old games like Resident Evil (Gameplay + Saving), Silent Hill (Enemies, Athmo) or Alone in the Dark (nice shadowplay that can hurt you) + very cheap (Normal 20/Sale ~10-12). PS: Like for mentioning Hellnight (still own it myself), Clocktower and Echo Night (only have Echo Night: Beyond here) .
I'm glad a small handful of indie devs still make games like this. We have seen and OVER abundance of 2D retro inspired games lately from developers who were nostalgic of that time period, and while I understand why we see less of throwbacks to the earlier polygonal 3D days because they aren't as pretty, I am glad some still make them. 3D PS1 games may have graphically aged like milk, but now a days a game doesn't have to be state of the art to be pretty, it merely needs to accomplish what it sets out to do, and polygonal 3D like this has become its own artform over the years, to the point that if you deliberately set out to make a game in this style, then I would absolute say with a straight face that your game is beautiful.
1 minute in & I’m stopping here to go play it. The PS1 replication is so plainly evident. Not just nostalgic theme plastered on a disappointing game design. I’ll have to see myself if the game is any good, but… Thanks for introducing me. ❤ Subscribed :)
I'm glad we're living in a time where nostalgic things like the PS1 aesthetic can be recreated so accurately. Alisa does an amazing job at that. Great video! I'm excited to see more from you.

Also alisas design herself costume changes to suit where you are and stuff some of the monster designs too the keys as well. deffo reminds me of the ps1 era to and my childhood. awesome video man super intresting. 👍🏻🇬🇧🌈
It made me laugh so hard to hear “happy late Halloween!” In AUGUST. you could’ve said happy early Halloween that’s so funny. Also this was so enjoyable to watch! Horror is one of those genres that can show such incredible artistry and innovation I really love how creative indie horror can be.
God I love this style of content man. Especially with the holiday themes. Perfect background noise to decompress right now getting off work. Subscribed.
This blows every other PS1-style horror game out of the water in terms of authenticity, if you had told me this was a homebrew PS1 game I would believe you. I’ve noticed a lot of these types of games tend to rely and exaggerate uncommon quirks of the era. The complete lack of pre-rendered CGI, the real faces plastered onto exaggeratedly low poly characters, and in some cases, the use of a VHS filter just feels like looking at a fun house mirror rather than a genuine attempt to recapture or improve upon what made those games special. It’s not perfect, but the way Alisa intelligently uses pre-rendered CGI, uses textures that resemble spritework rather than downscaled photos, and uses a consistent resolution is excellent and puts most of the actual Resident Evil clones of the time to shame. My only complaint, as strange as it may sound, would be the use of boss health bars. It’s not just that boss health bars aren’t used in Resident Evil and most clones, but I believe that not knowing how much health a boss has left greatly adds to the tension. A game like The Binding of Isaac: Repentance isn’t remotely scary, but for the few bosses that don’t have health bars the game gets extremely tense, even if you have a relatively overpowered build. IMO removing the boss health bars would make the fights feel less video gamey and keep you on your toes, which works much better for horror.
I just finished playing this game now, your review made such a good job at selling it, it's indeed an amazing experience, but i didn't get that same difficulty on the last boss, i knifed him to death preaty easily just by circlying him, made the ending a whole lot more satisfying too
Just wanna thank you for this video as it was how I discovered about Alisa. I didn't know the name so I was curious it was some obscure game. as soon as I understood it was a brand new game, I played the demo, got the game (always a pleasure to help indie devs like this) and already finished twice. Lovely, lovely game with a super active dev. NOW I'm going to watch the rest of the video! Edit: Maybe it has already been fixed, but I found the knockbacks not that frustrating as it rarely happened. I felt "spamming" the use buttons and other made me get up faster. Maybe it was a "placebo effect". Also, the "fish suit" is used to escape GRAPPLES faster, not knockdowns. The enemies in the water grapple you, that's what it's for. Concerning the story, there are two other notes that maybe weren't there when you first played. *SPOILERS* If you kill Elise, the friendly doll (or she disappears by herself if you do something) she will leave a note when you learn she was like you, able to resist it but she feels Alisa is even stronger, immune even. The other is the miner's final note. You can get it by unlocking the "stone teeth" door in the garden. There are 3 in the game and you can only open one of them each run. It describes how every other miner was killed by "monsters". So, yeah, that first team was destroyed by the time the second one arrived.
I've learned to refer to Silent Hill 2's voice acting as "Twin Peaks" or "Lynchian". But I guess that would only be charming to people familiar with that franchise.
Some big changes since this video! The Mother doll will now occasionally show up randomly in rooms and try to steal you away. Similar to Mr. X or Nemesis!
Alisa should be more known. It's very true to it's origins and plays very well. Ofc it's janky, but it's supposed hit the nostalgia on things of old that weren't as good as nowadays.
The Intro alone compelled me to stop the video and try out the Demo. And man do I have a new game at the top of my wishlist. I'm always yearning for RE-like experiences. And seeing this Alice in Wonderland type spin on PS1-style Survival Horror is really cool and intriguing to me
I am really excited to see updates to this game, honestly if I wasn’t told what engine this was on and when it was released I’d think it was just some cancelled PS1 game running off a open source emulator that was put on steam after rights issues were settled. Kinda like how 40 Winks N64 took decades to release.
Great Video👍Glad someone finally made an in-depth review for this game, as it deserves every praise seeing how much & how quick the developer managed to deliver. The developer's cut had been released just a few days ago, adding tons of contents including new items, power-ups and multiple endings, basically wrapping all loose ends. I'm quite surprised on how many new things there were and hope you can give it another go too : ) PS: There's a "Tyrant" in the game now and it's quite terrifying.
Absolutely fantastic video. I thought "wait, late Halloween video. It's August, anything but late." But this is from your other channel. But glad to see this is getting some views. You definitely deserve it.
Ok, 2:33 in and im 100% sold. To the point where i actually wont even watch the rest of the video (sorry 😂) bc i dont want any footage showing more of what this can offer. This looks such a passionate made game! Is inspiring and makes me smile :) Remeber back in the days of dial internet where all you knew about some games was probably what you saw in a one page coverage in a gaming magazine that only showed 3 crunchy bisquit sized screen caps and a big promotional art? Yeah i want to discover and experience this without know everything about the project, i want to play this and buy the game. Also this looks like it was legit made in 1999 but never got released bc the studio went bankrupt, then a 3rd party publisher from Italy picked it up and released it for the NDS in 2004.
Old style games graphics help your mind for more imagination that’s what make the atmosphere so interesting because your brain constantly imagine the environment the enemies and analyze more like reading some book compared to new games who focus on perfect graphic and feel like the lack the feeling and easily forgetful and boring.
It's a good game and I love how authentic it tries to be. My only complaint is that it feels unfinished with the secret area being unreachable until the DLC finishes.... my guess is that they made it that way for how video game secrets are supposed to be knowing people will just data mine the game on day one. I also love how it tries to do a type of "Alice in Wonderland" that is completely different and special without having to rely on common Alice tropes like the red queen or drinking potions to grow big or small.
8:21 Ain't no one that caked up in any PS1 games, girl's got cheeks Also 13:35 , the same thing happened to me on my first playthrough of Lunar Silver Star Story on playstation. I went to the final area of the game, only to realize I didn't restock on mana potions, and I didn't have multiple save files. The game was literally impossible to finish no matter what.
Dunno if you ever came across it, but I remember reading that the last boss (SPOILERS AHEAD) gets stronger the more toothwheels you give him/buy things. So if you bought a ton of gear (which it sounds like you did), the fight was substantially harder than if you never bought anything. This is also why you had to spend "money" to save the game; every time you saved, the last boss got just a little bit harder.
Well, some games solved the camera angle change thing by having the direction controls carry over until you default the stick (let it point straight up). This may sound weird, but I miss that approach. Might even take it over tank controls regardless of the disorientation.
1:00 Of course it is trying to “capture that feeling.” This could pass as footage from an alpha build of Resident Evil. If you showed me a screenshot of this game and I didn’t have the Spencer Mansion memorized like the back of my hand, I might have thought it was Resident Evil. That being said, I’ll definitely be playing this as I love classic survivor horror. While I know Resident Evil 4 was a great game, I was really bummed out that they went away with the fixed camera angles and pre-rendered backgrounds (although Code Veronica was awesome) after RE Zero.
It's an interesting game, though you can feel all through it the attempts to franchise it. From throwaway lore lines, such as about the (of course) corrupt emperor line, to the promise of a prequel AND a sequel, it feels like there are places where the game should've focused more on itself instead of the line of media it intends to produce. Because honestly, it's a neat game gameplay and style-wise, but that story is pretty bland.
3:50 That just factually incorrect, reality is Jeremy Blaustein said they were strapped for time and a lot of the stilted dialogue is the byproduct of that, (them not being able to go back and re-record it) also the only two people that never had any experience with voice acting before SH2, were just Guy Cihi (James Sutherland) and Jacquelyn Breckenridge (Laura), but good video otherwise
Yeah, I've never understood that particular argument. Fixed cameras are just a style of cinematography, which is something both films and games utilize. You can argue about the effectiveness and merits of fixed cameras vs. other styles, but saying they're bad just because they're not as commonly used in games anymore is...flimsy reasoning at best. Most phones have touch screens these days, does that mean buttons are now obsolete?
Haven't had the will to go back to Alisa since I'm too busy doing other things lately, but it is a lovely game. Really nails that Alone In The Dark vibe, imo. If you are watching that video and feel like trying it, definitely go support its developer by buying it!
Was it already completed? I remember long ago the game would end after one of the puzzles to open a door. I hadn't been following it though waiting for hearing of it.
While I love this game a whole lot, I disagree with the bad voice acting. Let's not kid ourselves: voice acting has come a LONG way since even before the Jill Sandwich thing. I get that they are going for that voice acting style, it is deliberately done, BUT I don't think we should hold it to that high regard. Nostalgia, sure, roughly sounding and cheesy, okay, but it really is for that retro aesthetic they were going for...... nothing more.
I find funny you are talking about there not being anything that could be off and give it away not being a PSX game, and meanwhile the gameplay has very complex realtime shadows when entering rooms.
I disagree with you one one point, how you can tell it's a modernday made game is she walks too smoothly, the thing of the ps1 era games was tankmovement for the longest time ps1 did not have a joystick only Dpad so if they could make the movement more tankmovement i would agree with you on it being perfectly fit for that era of gaming.
You pretty much double or triple state your facts. Just wording it differently so it sounds like something new, but you kept reverting back to those same talking points. Good way to pad that run time.
I actually tried to play around on my own before watcNice tutorialng tNice tutorials and finally knowing what many of the buttons I randomly clicked on an is
SH2 did not hire people that sucked at their roles on purpose. In an interview with someone on the team he says they grabbed whoever they could because there was not many voice actors in Japan back then. This lie about it being on purpose has been spread by youtubers, its false.

Love this game! played it last year
yesss so good
You're not late, you're early.
Vivimos en tiempos con consolas que pueden producir gráficos hiper realistas.. y sin embargo los mejores juegos ni siquiera necesitan estas cosas.
I dig it
It's weird how people think fixed camera angles are stupid. Like . . . have they not seen movies before?
Or read comics, or played a graphic adventure...
But video games aren't movies, are they???
Yeah, I've never understood that particular argument. Fixed cameras are just a style of cinematography, which is something both films and games utilize. You can argue about the effectiveness and merits of fixed cameras vs. other styles, but saying they're bad just because they're not as commonly used in games anymore is...flimsy reasoning at best. Most phones have touch screens these days, does that mean buttons are now obsolete?
You could have waited one month 😀, great video thank you
Wow, how is it possible I've never heard of this game ? Looks great, they went even further than Tormented Souls.
I have a question about soft soft 9
Looks cool. Also seems to have a lot of reskinned Resident Evil 1 rooms.
Looks like a solid game.
I can't seem to find it on the Nintendo eShop.
Can someone help?
Its only on Steam.
I'll be waiting for remastered PS2 version
Everyday is Halloween. Halloween is the most wonderful time of the year.
What's the music at 3:25? great vid btw.
A Dark Road to Nowhere - Dex 1200
Woah the creator planned a sequel and prequel? Already?
Haven't had the will to go back to Alisa since I'm too busy doing other things lately, but it is a lovely game. Really nails that Alone In The Dark vibe, imo. If you are watching that video and feel like trying it, definitely go support its developer by buying it!
If game is this niche buying link would be apreciated
I want to play it but I can't find it on switch or xbox store :(
It's a fan made indie ps1 game
It has silent hill vibes but resident evil machines.
Too bad we'll never see this ever again
Can this be downloaded for ps4
"Limited saves", I can tell you the exact moment I lost interest in this game.
SIGNALIS!
Bro what system is this for?! It says it's on switch and ps4, but I can't find them on either marketplace? Wtf is it only on steam?!
Oh yeah, the game got a massive update a few days ago adding content that originally got cut
Was it already completed? I remember long ago the game would end after one of the puzzles to open a door. I hadn't been following it though waiting for hearing of it.
Hey, I think SH2 voice acting is perfect.
GO ALISA
DONT LET HIM ESCHAPÉ
Is the game done?
they need to release this on ps1
I find funny you are talking about there not being anything that could be off and give it away not being a PSX game, and meanwhile the gameplay has very complex realtime shadows when entering rooms.
But it's Sept mate, why u do this?
HOH HOH HOH I SWALLOWED MY TOOTHPICK OHHHH
me: xDDDD
I disagree with you one one point, how you can tell it's a modernday made game is she walks too smoothly, the thing of the ps1 era games was tankmovement for the longest time ps1 did not have a joystick only Dpad so if they could make the movement more tankmovement i would agree with you on it being perfectly fit for that era of gaming.
btw, the acting in SH2 was unintentional. It was not something they expected but it turned out like that.
Is this game complete?
Yes. It's been out for a while now.
You pretty much double or triple state your facts. Just wording it differently so it sounds like something new, but you kept reverting back to those same talking points. Good way to pad that run time.
I actually tried to play around on my own before watcNice tutorialng tNice tutorials and finally knowing what many of the buttons I randomly clicked on an is
👏👏👍
I REALLY wish this had controller options 🙁 the tank controls Vs. camera view while changing direction are too janky for the difficulty of the game 😬
Sounds like a skill issue.
Sounds like a skill issue.
Something tells me that you watch a lot of Nitro Rad.
What is this? *Barry Burton voice*
wait so its not actually a PS1 game?
Nope
SH2 did not hire people that sucked at their roles on purpose. In an interview with someone on the team he says they grabbed whoever they could because there was not many voice actors in Japan back then. This lie about it being on purpose has been spread by youtubers, its false.
its still on purpose pal
