    I had a comic book store back in the ‘90, had boxes upon boxes of unsold 2099 Marvel titles and couldn’t give them away even if I wanted to.

    They stoped doing that a long time ago. In 2023 both use UPC codes. That comic is form 1992

    2099 was a good year.

    Thanks for taking the time to fix the direct edition definition 👏 I recognize the effort and respect it

    I own a Direct Edition of this.
    Bought it back in the 90s for probably 5 dollars. I am glad to know that it is worth at least 100 bucks now. 😁

      Have you had it formerly assessed by one of the recognized grading services (e.g., CGC, CBCS)?
      If not, then I wouldn't spend that fantasy $100.00 just yet.

      If it’s graded yeah. Raw copy goes for $10-$25.

    I have a newsstand variant of this comic. Though I"m VERY sure it's not in 9.8 condition.

    That Spider-Man 2099 is not worth much even with the newsstand variant. The ToyBiz Classics reprint is worth nearly $100 alone.

    What about the ones that have a barcode and right above the barcode it says "Direct sales"

    Huh. I remember a Stan's Soapbox back in the 1990's where a reader asked why there was this white box ruining the cover art (the reader apparently got everything by subscription), and Stan explaining that the box was for the UPC of the newsstand editions. Suprised that the newsstand versions are worth more, though. You'd think there'd be a lot more of them around. Now how about the "slicks" vs the "newsprint" editions they were doing for a while? (The newsprint were cheaper if you happened to live near a comic store, but if you didn't, the shipping costs negated any saving you got over buying the "slicks" at the newsstand.)

    lol I still have my newstand edition of SPider 1 2099. Such a cool character back in the day.

    I see you fixed definition errors from the last one you deleted. Glad you acknowledge with correction. I was concern how this channel put out information that wasn't correct.

    Ok, but what about signed/number variants? I aquired a bunch of those, some of them were pretty explicit too, had like satanic/vampire themes that were essentially 18+. Got some unique stuff for it being modern age, dont know if i should grade them though. Theyre not 9.8s, but theyre not in "fair" condition either

      It sounds pretty neat. But you're better off finding advice on a subreddit, to be honest. I'm sure someone here knows, but the chances are slim.

      @@nihility. i dont use reddit, plus too the amount of 90's boobage mixed with blood and idek, i can see a mod giving a no-no to that.
      My brother did talk about an instagram account interested in niche x-rated comics, but we havent contacted him. Im just unsure about the market for, well, comic book styled pornography, especially when its signed/numbered

    I have a Conan first issue from 1995 with a barcode but it also says "direct edition" on the square, so is it a news stand or a direct edition?

    • @TheAVFiles
      @TheAVFiles 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It's a direct edition, if it has just the barcode it's Newsstand. Anything else is direct.

    Wtf had no idea it was worth something. I just thought the cover was cool and i loved Spiderman

    • @mulemule
      @mulemule ปีที่แล้ว

      Collector here: please avoid confusing "rare" with merely being "harder to find." Also, regardless of being a newsstand variant, condition is still (overwhelmingly) king when assessing value. For an idea of what grading parameters your comic must meet to have value, take a look at CGC's Grading Scale. Best of luck.

    • @wendygoerl9162
      @wendygoerl9162 ปีที่แล้ว

      You're probably looking at a later comic than what's being discussed. They eventually gave up putting other-than-UPCs in the UPC boxes and just added the "DIRECT EDITION" to the UPC.

    • @calixa
      @calixa ปีที่แล้ว

      @@wendygoerl9162 actually its from the exact same Spiderman 2099 run except its like 4 issues later. DIRECT EDITION IN THE UPC CODES.

    Cmon a 9.4 direct for that book is not even worth grading. It’s junk. Plus no one in the business where’s gold chains like that. Anyone trying to sell or buy or give me advice on comics wearing that I would laugh and walk away.
