      Geden Cayas You are a Filipino and you don't even know the Karambit is not a weapon ? It can kill . But it is actually a farming tool ! It is used to poke coconut fruit to get the water . And for trimming the Palm flower to get the sap , to make a vinegar !

    • @ronisworld2916
      @ronisworld2916 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Janice Julian is correct. she is telling the use of it mostly in the southern region. here in the northern Luzon, we use it mainly for farming tools, when its time to harvest the rice fields. and its bigger than what you know of a karambit. wwaaaayyyy more bigger. try lookin it up in the web.

      Arturo Blanco These demonstrations always look nice and flashy as the opponent is pausing and limp for manipulation of his limbs. ACTUALLY fighting someone, who DOESN’T want his arm bent that way, and is throwing his own weight around? Unlikely.

    Hey Paul, I like the video, but I came to this one straight from the video where you tear apart the karambit and say you would never use it or stake your life on it. I noticed you posted this video two years before the other. Is there some reason why you changed your tune? Or more to the point, some reason why you used to find the karambit not only usable but promotable?

    • @kalicenter

  • @avery2306
    @avery2306 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    I like your focus and how it's mainly on the knife hand, and adapting this into everyday use with training wouldn't be too hard, though people do need to realise that this is a martial art, not an exact combat scenario. No real combat scenario can be reproduced in its entirety, and adaptations have to be made to certain skills to make them fully effective. I'm no expert by any means but it's just a cool and interesting thing to me that there is so many melee combat strategies that people deem as fake because they see it in the internet. Anyway, good shit

    Your everyday chump would not be able to perform techniques like this in the streets. However, if a "True - Kali Warrior" trains to find the techniques on a moving opponent - then the techniques work. Timing and proximity... The 2 main attributes to conquering an aggressive attack. Soften up your attacker, find the opening. . . then its on👊

    Didn't know karambits were used in FMA too. I always thought it was a SIlat weapon first and foremost. Also, I was thinking, can the cut to the wrist be deep enough to slice the tendons? I think (not sure though) that it would prevent the opponent from grabbing the weapon (or holding it for that matter), which could potentially put an end to the fight. Love the exchange :)

    • @kalicenter
      @kalicenter  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, Karambit is used in FMA. Yes, the Karambit can cut the wrist deep enough. It's a thin sharp piece of metal agains flesh. Unfortunately movies have distorted people's perception on knives and swords cutting and stabbing bodies.

  • @AlemooDoty
    @AlemooDoty 7 ปีที่แล้ว +14

    maybe Im just 'uneducated', but I think that practicing perfect motions are not good in a fight. What if he attacks with his other hand? your technique requires your adversary to do a certain set of motions. It seems just... fake.
    That's my opinion, I'd rather just put a bullet in someone than the flashy knife stuff personally

    • @signkutter
      @signkutter 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      if an attacker attacks from the otherside...if you cant adapt your training,,,you die...

    • @remoxvideo2495
      @remoxvideo2495 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      There are 2 solutions. You practice the same movement on both sides or you apply other thing for different side which is more comfortable for you. In real scenario you react automatically, this technique is not any must done. To be honest, this is just for fun it looks cool and as it should be and they know it. Don't treat this like number one rule to survive and slice all enemies on your way.

    • @IlokanoWarrior
      @IlokanoWarrior 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      knives are legal to carry around and use as self defense, unless you have a concealed carry permit you can't be carrying a gun around. And in a real fight, all these fancy motions are reduced to a few motions. In a real fight there would be more slashing and less attempts to do the fancy disarms and joint locks. Also the art is different than the actual fight.

    To the real self defence guy ,sometimes these knife techniques work and sometimes they dont ,its a knife your talking about , if you face down someone with a knife you will likely get cut or one of you will ,ive done knife defence and kali escrima and there are no sure fire defences against a knife that work 100%of the time its a knife its a inaniment object it dosent care one way or another what or who it comes in contact with so if you can show me something better then what escrima has to offer ill listen im all ears man .training is essential ,you cant train knife denfence enough you just cant train enough to be absolutely without mistke but you can get proficient with training .so keep training .

    nice one, but what is with his right handy, with you're right site, it's completely open, a kick with his knee in your Rips or your kidney and I'm sure the fight will end on another way, what's up with your head, ha hit with is left hand on your head or your neck, you've got the same problem like the knee, the fight will end on another way.
    yeah sure, if you are fast enough, nothing will happen, but if you give him just a half second, I think it can be difficult.
    If someone Understand what I mean, and have some ideas to clear that problem, because the technique Is nice, but in my view there a too many problems, so please put your ideas here.

    surely drop your weight... rip the knee... dont overcomplicate. the karambit plays to the strengths.... why would i rotate the wrist and then weak draw hook. i dunno. seems weird. but then i aint the messiah of knives. explain :)

    stop showing off, it's a demonstration of Kali, not a demonstration of how stupid you can be by disable and kill some one because you're soooo strong. Take Marcada as an example.

    If your partner is flinching on every strike that's not good on the instructor.
    Really like the thigh/femral como but the instructor might have taken a deep cut just before that

    Weakest attacker effort in a demo I've seen in a while... Immitating a 90 year old arthritic person? The speed, telegraphing warning given and direction of the attack were not close to realism.

      its a fucking demo...

      It is easy to make up an ineffective move and make it look effective in slow-mo, so what is he demonstrating?
      That's why the top schools I've been to demonstrate slowly and then show at full speed. Particularly with the knife attacks, defence needs to be pressured and fast otherwise for all you know it is just a fancy idea that gets inches of steel pressed inside you. The attack needs to be real so the defence is shown to be real; it is just play-time otherwise.

      he isnt teaching anything...he is demonstrating how the blade is intended to be used....not every conceivable way it CAN be used and real time examples. ..its a sales video...not an instructional

      It's just a TH-cam video. This isn't real fighting. LOL

    to much moves for this to be effective.. the show looks cool thou.
    only one grip and a slice from a karambit is more than enough.
    Karambits are terrifying evil knifes.

      I agree. I wouldn't actually try doing this in a "real" situation. Not everything on my TH-cam channel is meant to be practical as I mentioned in my very first video.

    These kinds of videos are really unrealistic. The attacker would be much more unpredictable and fast. Plus, whould carrys a karambit around, ready in there hand?
