Mr. Miller is so good at what he does he can afford to be totally honest and sincere. Professional hockey skates used to be made from kangaroo tan. The players would wear their skates (Tackeberries) into the shower to get them totally soaked in water then let them dry on their feet for a perfect fit. They did not wear socks, they greased their feet!

Having watched this and watched an unknown number of recordings around movie costume making or auto body repair, I feel compelled to ask: Has he experimented with taking molds of feet as a way to approach the fit and last work?
Seems like the next generation of this would be to leverage some molding process or 3D imaging, to solve for these issues of getting the last built.

Not a science, too many phenomena, and such, like practicing medicine it is an art.
Technology allows companies to easily make comfy shoes with a high tech knit upper and advanced foam that conforms to any foot, but to make a western shoe or boot (especially the cowboy boot) comfortable with nothing more than leather and a thin layer of cork, that’s an art form.

We do get this comment quite a lot. People ask why they don't use 3d printed lasts. The issue is that if you do that, you get a last that is the shape of a foot, which in turn produces a shoe that is the shape of a foot. That is definitely not the most elegant looking design. The true skill of an artisan shoemaker is that they are able to combine form and aesthetics, to produce a shoe that fits the foot on the inside, but has an elegant shoe shape on the outside.
