The driver failed to stop behind the stop line at the intersection of 10th and Main (KSA 8-1508 (2)c. The deputy initiated a traffic stop and the driver pulled into a convenience store at 10th and Morton. The deputy approached the vehicle and politely identified himself and his agency as well as the reason for the stop. The driver was asked for his driver’s license and proof of insurance. The driver refused to give the deputy his driver’s license in violation of KSA 8-244. This statute is a misdemeanor and an arrestable offense. The driver was arguing about the reason for the traffic stop as well as stating he did not have to show the officer his license. The deputy opened the car door to place the driver under arrest at which time a struggle ensued. During the course of the struggle the deputy warned the suspect “I will tase you”. The suspect was able to escape the deputy’s grasp and attempted to flee on foot, at which point the deputy deployed a Taser. The suspect was running away from the deputy and fell striking his face on the pavement when the effects of the Taser took place. The deputy had called for assistance and officers from the Great Bend Police Department arrived at the scene and assisted in securing the suspect. The Great Bend Fire Department EMS service was called and examined the suspect. He was later transported to University of Kansas Health Systems for medical treatment and released at which time he was transported to the Barton County Jail. The suspect was identified as 18-Year-Old Daniel Zuniga of Hoisington. I've had so many pursuits start over things I was only gonna give a warning for and I tell them that everytime. I always congratulate them on their hard work of turning a warning into a felony charge. It happens a lot. Usually just over speed, I don't write a lot of tickets but I stop a LOT because a lot of cars think since they're already speeding and I have to turn around they can just put the peddle down and get away and it hasn't once worked well for anyone.
Only when it’s deployed perfectly and makes good contact..I’ve seen plenty of these videos where it doesn’t work at all. I still think it’s a mistake to have single officers in cars, they should have a partner.

Seriously you driving a car and they ask for a license you just give it. If you forgot it they can just ID you another way, sometimes that's even a little lucky for you cause they ticket you for not carrying the license instead of a moving violation so no points.
@arkashalethal 💯 It cracks me up how everyone acts like a lawyer, 'til the cuffs go on. Yes, we all need to be informed of our rights, I absolutely agree.
True, If you drive you always have to show DL or ID and the Police can order you out of your car by law. And if you refuse on those two points it will escalate!!
Exactly, and if you think your rights are being violated, comply with the arrest. It’ll make you look so much better infront of a judge especially if you decide to sue the police department.
People need to realize if you're a suspect of a crime, you either identify yourself, or you get taken in until later identified. They always act so surprised when they realize they are being detained. Like bro... you did this to yourself. It should be expected what comes next.
Another example of how a police officer resolves a case with a problematic driver. In just 1:40 minutes. Outstanding, perfect. Sometimes we see other cases where the police mistakenly give control of the situation to the offender and they argue for more than 15 minutes.
The cop was absolute asshole. The guy was undoing his seatbelt and he just grabs him? Wow. I would sue that guy.

I agree with the cop's actions in almost all these videos. This cop was, as one replied below, a complete ahole. He went from zero to 100 in a second for absolutely no reasonable cause. I know the demographic that floods the comment section on these types of videos may not see it that way, but this is egregious to any but the most biased of bootlickers
This officer was courteous, professional, and directly to the point. He did an exemplary job in handling this situation. Let the guy know exactly what he was doing and following through with his words. I appreciated his no nonsense approach as I see officers repeat commands over and over again getting nowhere.

@@AkiNoTsuki You'd be surprised how stupid and acurate that is.. While back I had pulled a car over for an equipment violation. The driver was an upper middle aged woman and she was on probation for a drug offense. I asked her if I could search the car and she consented. She may have been suspended or revoked and already under arrest, I can't remember. Anyways her son in his mid 20's showed up, walked there from home, and starts interfering with my stop, acting sideways. I tell him to back up or he's gonna go to jail. Now mind you, he's standing on the sidewalk but it's like 10 inches away from us because we're on the side of the road and he's saying things to her while she's in my back seat of my patrol vehicle and he's arguing with us. After telling him to leave or go to jail he says "I can stand here I know my rights I saw it on tiktok." I can't make it up, like those words came out of his mouth and almost left me in a moment of disbelief because I had to, tactfully, explain how stupid he was and why he was wrong, which I did and he complied and went across the street. Shockingly enough I found the Meths and paraphernalia in the car and mom went to jail for that too.
Immediately knew this wasn't Wisconsin. No stupid patty cake games. No debating or negotiating. Polite, professional, to the point, firm, and fair. He very poltiely explained exactly what was going to happen and then did his job beautifully and accordingly. I'm glad that down in Florida we aren't the only cops still being cops. @@afrocraft1where we live, at that time the major intersections turn to 4-way stops, with the crosswalk being where the sign is “posted.” From my understanding, he crossed that, giving possible signs of DUI or inattentive driving.
@@agamnon2619 Yes, he allegedly committed a traffic infraction. He deserves a stern warning or a ticket. But does that make him a "criminal" who should be rough-handled as the OP suggests?
@@afrocraft1 the way he’s acting, yes. He’s breaking multiple criminal laws within the state of Kansas, which turns this from a Civil interaction, to now a criminal interaction. When he asks the driver to step out, that falls under the case law Pennsylvania v Mimms. When he started tensing up, and fighting the officer, then it goes south, and felonies at that point are committed. The post the sheriff’s office posted, he was charged with Battery on LEO, interference with LEO, and was cited for the traffic violations.
This cop needs to be studied by all cops. He was very respectful & gave very clear instructions. Didn't let his ego get himself into a argumentative state. Kept so calm through the whole situation that the kid changed his attitude in the end.
It took this cop 56 seconds to drag a non violent subject from his vehicle to the ground. It also cost anywhere from 2-10k of taxpayer money from this community, and partly from the federal government, to transport the subject to the hospital. If this is your idea of setting precedence for how law enforcement should be, I would strongly recommend reevaluating your world view.
@@christophers707 He refused to id, did not get out when asked, fought with the cop when he pulled him out and ran away until tased. Are you sure we saw the same video?
"Can I show you my driver's license? I didn't know..." After telling the officer I didn't have to show his driver's license. Guess the electricity from the tazer changed his personality 😂
Here's what you guys who think about doing this need to understand: you WILL BE IDENTIFIED NO MATTER WHAT. How you choose to do it is up to you. You can do it the easy way or the hard way. You will be getting out of that vehicle as well. Whether it's by your own cooperation or by being dragged out. Nothing you do or say to the officers will ever make them think "yeah I don't want to deal with this dude today, i'll leave him alone."

I get that you hate cops, but you really need to hate idiots like the guy in the car more because he's the reason why our jails and court systems are flooded with nonsense. Just be smart, idilentify yourself, get your warning if you're lucky and go about your night.
@@jmac463he's probably salty because some drug dealing relative of his got caught because of a pretextual stop like this. If you're not drunk and don't have drugs in the car then these kinds of stops end in a warning literally 100% of the time.
The guy that got tased is an idiot, but the cop could have been much more diplomatic. Saying things like "I'm going to tell you to give me your ID and then I'm going to make you" is just the cop making a power move and escalating the situation for no reason.
The Supreme Court has ruled any officer may remove any driver from their vehicle at any time during a traffic stop under Pennsylvania V. Mimms, and the same authority applies to all passengers under Maryland V. Wilson. So yes, when an officer gives a subject a lawful command during a traffic stop, compliance is legally required, you "shall" exit your vehicle when ordered to do so or you will be removed. That is the "make" part of the "Ask, Tell, Make" police training that the officer quoted. Don't drive if you aren't willing to follow local, state, and federal law.
Scary to see the thought process & severely low mental maturity of today’s youth… you watch enough of these police cam vids & you see its a concerning trend. “sorry officer, I was issued a driver’s license but somehow I had no idea I’m supposed to present it to police when they ask me for it six times during a traffic stop” “sorry, I just ran because somehow my mind decided that was another good decision to make in this situation” wtf?! Its like a generation of galaxy gas huffers out there.
Driving is a privilege not a right. If a cop asks for your drivers license during a traffic stop you must comply or risk not only arrest but losing your license for failure to provide proof of a valid dL
