  • MSI’s thin and light creator laptop for 2023 gets a 16” mini LED QHD+ display, an Intel Core i7-13700H with EVO certification and NVIDIA RTX 4050 / 4060 graphics. The MSI Prestige 16 Studio A13V is relatively reasonably priced for a content creation laptop, running $1,800 - $2,000. It has an ample selection of ports, a number pad on the keyboard, and both Windows Hello IR camera and a fingerprint reader.

I test a lot of displays. Color gamut going down sounds like the app is SDR, and the MSI laptop is resctricing SDR colors to within the sRGB color space. This would be the expected behavior though, as Windows will tone-map all SDR apps to be within the sRGB color space while HDR is turned on.
I know CalMAN natively supports HDR, but it's really pricey.

TB support is not a technical but a licensing limitation. It may well work perfectly, but they can't legally say they support it. And you typically lose reproduction accuracy by going max brightness. Different color pixels have different and non-linear performance characteristics, so for the sake of consistency of color reproduction, the accurate presets do cut the excess because they can't magically boost the weaker pixels, so cutting is the only way to equalize and balance things out.

I think this prestige 16's biggest advantage is the miniled display, because so far mini led only being used in top tier expensive laptops
Although this is not cheap mid tier laptop , but it's relatively cheaper than other high end miniled laptops
If only this one got an extra sodimm and m.2 slot , than it would be perfect, at least for me

IMO, 70% P3 color accuracy in HDR mode kind of defeats the whole purpose of getting this expensive display, which is the crown jewel of this laptop. I've been using MadVR + PotPlayer setup for watching movies in HDR10 for almost a decade. Difference between 40-70% VS 100% DCI-P3 is extremely noticeable to the point where you can't really go back once you know shades of colors that should be there are missing. I am curious if other MiniLED laptops in 2023 have the same issue. That would mean Samsung Gen3 OLED is still superior when it comes to mobile-powered HDR displays.

I need PC for CAD Programs, AutoCAD, Revit, Inventor, I am mostly working with 3D and 2D drawings and some FEM Analysis Simulations ... I came to two options which are similar to me more or less. Its ZBook Studio G6 17 inches with i7-10850H and Quadro RTX4000 graphic card which is used but has guarantee and works fine and there i MIC Prestige with i7-13700H and GeForce RTX4050 which is brand new. Price is almost the same, this MCi is currently on sale for about 40% discount. Which one would you recommend and why.

Recently subscribed to your channel hoping to see true reviews, but at least this video is just another sponsored commercial to sell a bad product with just enough criticism to make the people believe they can trust it and here is why. I got this laptop one month ago from work and it is horrible because of the following reasons. The thermal solution for the CPU is bad and for the SSD it is complete nonsense. The case between the F keys and the display will have about 60°C under average load and will rise quickly to 70°C under heavy load. Means if you have to use the F keys like me you will burn your fingers from time to time. No need to mention the annoying fan noise with high rpm all the time. Even a 12700H with better cooling is much faster under all core load. The SSD, like you have shown, has no thermal pad on the chips, have you measured the temperatures? It reaches the thermal limit after only a few seconds again and again if you copy many small files, guess it will not last very long. I have added 2x 1mm pads and one 0,5mm pad to the bottom cover so the SSD will have good contact. Now it has 48°C under heavy load and all that was required was less than 1 USD thermal pads. The touch pad, this was a clever part of the clip as you only pressed it on the top and middle section, the lower corners are very soft and you can look inside the laptop if only medium force will be applied. Sure, dust will fill the gap over time. Furthermore only one of the USB-C port has display port support. If you use it for business and you connect a dock or external display every day, there is no redundancy at all if this port will fail. Finally, the display, good selection of the shown content to hide the shadow on all 4 sides as good as possible but even then it is clearly visible and disappointing for a miniLED display.
