Studio One is cool and would get the job done for you. As long as it meets your needs thats fine. For me this new proposition by Avid is quite reasonable. It will lose some customers, but many new customers would jump at this. This is exactly what Avid has been missing for years.

ProTools Ultimate users are jumping ship. Flex is a waste of money and Avid has a long long long history of not being innovative and screwing their customers.
Hard to jump ship if you are locked in with HD systems, a lot of Hardware etc. Only Ultimate customers with no counterpart hardware investments can easily do that...most high-end studios are hooked on complementary hardware and they can afford to pay. I feel they are the ones Avid is targeting with Flex,.....based on the current Avid business proposition and segmentation, bedroom producers and mid-size studios have no business with Ultimate(Flex currently). Avid thinks too...and they have it planned out. That mid-tier customer flight is deliberately induced.
For anyone with an existing perpetual license, you don't need to change to the subscription model. You're grandfathered in and can continue upgrading annually with a perpetual license. Not sure how long they are going to keep that up, but that is nice for many customers that don't want to move to subscription.

For me Avid is still not addressing the main weaknesses of Pro Tools which are poor MIDI, VI support, arrangement and song writing tools. Pro Tools is still very behind the competition in these areas. I use Maschine 2 for songwriting and arrangement and then go to pro tools for the rest. I'm still on 2019.5 perpetual on Mojave and i see nothing with 2022.4 (3yrs later) that would make me upgrade. I've saved $1079 over that period by staying on the perpetual route. None of the added features over 3yrs could have made me make better music.
No DAW can be everything to everyone. PT has chosen to focus on its core competencies and capabilities which is audio editing, mixing, routing, live tracking, and many more of those things it is well known for. Am a Cubase/Nuendo user as well as PT. I produce my music in Nuendo and export over to PT for mixing. No DAW comes close to PT in that regard and PT has very high fidelity when it comes to audio. I've used Reaper, Cubase, Nuendo, and Reason and none come close to the fidelity of PT. I have been bashing PT online for some years, but I keep coming back secretly because there's that draw to its versatility. In this age, its not easy finding everything we need in one box...you might have to pull out another tool for things it can do well. I have accepted that fact and am settling down to that reality. Using Nuendo to sequence my midi, bounce them to audio and export over to PT for the rest. Thats how life is. We never get everything in one place.

What if you didn't have to do that? What if MIDI just worked the way it's supposed to work?The problem has never been pro tools. It is a great superb software from day one. It is in fact the first ever DAW. The problem is AVID. Most pro tools users love Pro Tools but hate/abhor AVID with a passion. If PT was not good, we wouldn't be using it. I wish AVID never bought pro tools from Digidesign. Things would be very different if the original creators of pro tools (digidesign) was still running the show.

if your support plan is current you get all the new updates. I have a perpetual license and got all the new features including 512 audio tracks. I have to keep my support plan current though. If I don't renew it and it runs out Ill still keep the current version I own but the only way to get updates if my support plans runs out is to go subscription, so its kinda blackmailing me to keep my support plan current if I want to keep updating ProTools.

Once you look into it it’s not all that bad, specially for the PT Standard guys. We get double of everything, Dolby Atmos support, clip effects… honesty that’s pretty awesome right there. Of course they failed to innovate, better MIDI capabilities, no native M1 support, etc. But I like how my buddy Ryan put it, “ya’ll have too high of expectations from Avid”. Historically they’ve been late on virtually every modern features and hardware support. Nothing new there. I hope this makes some of you feel a little better.
I’m new to this protool game and you’re the main dude I come to for information and education since I’m trying to help my cousin with his music career but I only used magix garage band and mixcraft in the past so thanks for the knowledge bro 🙏🏼🙏🏼
They used to offer ProTools 1st for free, not sure if they still do now. You might look into that if you just want to mess around with it and learn to use it…
Perpetual license owners get the updates too, the only catch is you have to keep your support plan current. If you let your support plan run out then the only way. to get updates again is to go subscription.
Thanks Wavy. I currently make recordings of maybe 3 singing tracks (max), maybe up to 8 instrument tracks, and maybe another couple of audio tracks. It's not going anywhere but TH-cam in the near future. Hence just basic mixing is needed. And so, I reckon that Pro Tools Artist is perfect for me. Good news! Now I just have to see if I can change down from Pro Tools Studio ... Cheers Greg

All I heard was "Avid doesn't care about innovation or their customers" and that makes me happy I switched to Logic Pro X. If you're not a Logic/MAC person, Presonus Studio One is king.
Yeah Studio One and Reaper are getting better and better, I think for project studios and home use and budding engineers looking to get into the game will look to Avid less and less, the big pro studios are pretty much locked in for life though… Everyone else is starting to have some real choices…

This guy has great information about Pro tools...but sometimes you can hear the bias.(seen him in Avid commercial). Yes people make beat outside of Pro tools because it just not a good experience and it lacks a lot of features..they are playing catch up
While the ability to mix in Atmos is included in Studio and Flex the Dolby Atmos plug-in suite is not, it’s 300 bucks or 100 with a Pro Tools subscription. Plus it really takes two computers to use, one for mixing and the other to run the renderer. So Avid’s wording on this is a bit misleading.
How about hardware insert delay compensation? That's the main reason I'm still in logic x. You can ping your delay and everything lines itself up. Which you can only do with protools HD. How is it now?
They didn’t tell me they were raising my annual price $100/year upon renewal of Standard to Studio in what they deceptively called a “free” upgrade. I’m heavily invested with hundreds of projects, so I can’t really jump ship at this point. Oh well…

My text in protools is so small I can’t read it, I did the DPI override and now can see task bar at top where it says file, edit, window, etc. I’m on a 4K computer with 2022.7 protools studio, any one having the same issue it’s so frustrating I just want to make some music. Hey Wavy, hope all is well. I recorded my solo project back in 2020, on the standard version of Pro Tools before my MacBook crashed. Once I got it back from Apple, my laptop was reset and I was trying to retrieve the standard Pro Tools app however, it’s been upgraded to Pro Tools “Studio”. I’m a saxophonist who learned the basics of Protools during the pandemic, enough to transfer my track recordings from my Korg Triton to pro tools. I just happen to like the editing functionality of Pro Tools. I feel like I’m having to re-learn Pro Tools Studio since I took a break from it. It was overwhelming at first and I’m only tech savvy to a certain degree but I eventually got the hang of it. I see that Pro Tools Studio has added some additional features, I guess my question to you is “ should I keep or continue to work with Pro Tools Studio? Btw, your TH-cam video’s helped me tremendously and was able to finish my project. Any advice as to how to approach this new version of Pro Tools? Thanks in advance!

I bought the perpetual license for Pro Tool studio and I didn’t get any of the free plug-ins. Where do I go about to find it and install them I’m a blind user, so forgive me if I couldn’t follow along hopefully you could give me some details, the only thing I found was the download installer and I downloaded it I’m in version 2023.6.
I rebought Pro tools perpetual and actually its better for those who already have it! Im currently running Pro tools studio 2022.5.0 and not only its the perpetual version but avid let's you keep the last version of of pt studio when you stop your subscription! I respect that! That's just like everyone else...cubase, you gotta pay for the updated version, studio one you gotta pay, reaper, etc. EXCEPT FOR FL STUDIO.....its all different prices but I know NOW that I'm not gonna lose my pt license.

There was a day when PT was the only serious gig in town for large studios. Those days are long gone and other daws like Cubase and Logic offer far more advanced tech.
Hey Wayne, I have 2 friends with perpetual licenses they bought within last 12 months, and both were given the upgrade to Studio version. Pretty cool of Avid! Love this update.
Updates are included for a year that’s nothing special, good luck once that expires if your last update has bugs you’ll be paying again for an update to fix those…
All the studios around Atlanta still use protools 10......nobody I know upgrading....to the new protools.....my self I record in protools 10 a mix in the new logic pro x
I've been on Pro Tools 10 since I've started and just recently updated to the newer Pro Tools. Im mad they're getting rid of Perpetual Licenses because I was saving up for one so I don't have to pay yearly (I like annual subscriptions because I don't have to worry every month) but if they're sticking with the Subscription services then so be it

Yeah because needing several thousand tracks comes up nearly everyday SMH, I’ve got a stable load on a perpetual license, I’m good… Freeware is starting to look better and better…. Mixing 9 to 128 channels of surround audio with headphones, I’m sure that works well lol, yeah naw I’ll pass on that too…
I’m on an old Mac with Mojave. PT 12.5 works. $9.99 would put me on the new new BUT, I’d lose my perpetual…and no support for my old Mac. Worth it to lose the perpetual? What the Charge for a perpetual AFTER I demo that $9.99 tier. They not really trying to let me demo like that right?. ProTools First seemed to run ok. So the 2024 version should function-or nah?

not at all, using an iLok is the smartest thing you can do, subscriptions are a waste and you're locked into monthly payments for a year minimum with no way to cancel or pay ahead

I'm still with PT 11HD perpetual, and not planning to upgrade. I see nothing to fall into Avid's greed trap. I'm using more and more Logic Pro X nowadays, as it's a much better midi production tool. It looks like I'll just leave PT for mixing and audio editing, but Avid are just a stupid company that I wanna stay away from in the future.
Can you get a head start for Wavy Elite in Logic. I can't afford a prescription in Pro Tools. I have only enough grey matter to handle Logic , not learn and pay for expensive Pro Tools, or afford and PAY Avid for a prescription. I own Logic and my Soundtoys plugins. I have the perpetual version but I don’t have the update to switch my pro tools into dark mode, how do I get that without paying $300.00? I spent $700.00 for what I have, don’t want to spend more. I buy plugins from Waves central and izotope. So I’m not tripping about the plugins.
If development was faster and better I wouldn't mind, but with recent years updates and all the mess of shaking up the whole product line and their policy every now and then, makes me run away as much as I love PT.

I have a home studio and pro studio so the 9.99 package is perfect. Now I don’t have to constantly transfer my license via iCloud.

However they upgraded my perpetual license to pt studio so I’ll stay a little longer.
As a user of both, definitely try Studio one!

My text in protools is so small I can’t read it, I did the DPI override and now can see task bar at top where it says file, edit, window, etc. I’m on a 4K computer with 2022.7 protools studio, any one having the same issue it’s so frustrating I just want to make some music. Any and all help is GREATLY APPRECIATED!

Hey Wavy, hope all is well. I recorded my solo project back in 2020, on the standard version of Pro Tools before my MacBook crashed. Once I got it back from Apple, my laptop was reset and I was trying to retrieve the standard Pro Tools app however, it’s been upgraded to Pro Tools “Studio”. I’m a saxophonist who learned the basics of Protools during the pandemic, enough to transfer my track recordings from my Korg Triton to pro tools. I just happen to like the editing functionality of Pro Tools. I feel like I’m having to re-learn Pro Tools Studio since I took a break from it. It was overwhelming at first and I’m only tech savvy to a certain degree but I eventually got the hang of it. I see that Pro Tools Studio has added some additional features, I guess my question to you is “ should I keep or continue to work with Pro Tools Studio? Btw, your TH-cam video’s helped me tremendously and was able to finish my project. Any advice as to how to approach this new version of Pro Tools? Thanks in advance!

@Wayne.wave Can you mix in surround in Pro Tools, without the Dolby Atmos renderer? I use Nuendo as well and I can mix in surround without anything Dolby, even though its included in Nuendo

I bought the perpetual license for Pro Tool studio and I didn’t get any of the free plug-ins. Where do I go about to find it and install them I’m a blind user, so forgive me if I couldn’t follow along hopefully you could give me some details, the only thing I found was the download installer and I downloaded it I’m in version 2023.6.

I rebought Pro tools perpetual and actually its better for those who already have it! Im currently running Pro tools studio 2022.5.0 and not only its the perpetual version but avid let's you keep the last version of of pt studio when you stop your subscription! I respect that! That's just like everyone else...cubase, you gotta pay for the updated version, studio one you gotta pay, reaper, etc. EXCEPT FOR FL STUDIO.....its all different prices but I know NOW that I'm not gonna lose my pt license.

There was a day when PT was the only serious gig in town for large studios. Those days are long gone and other daws like Cubase and Logic offer far more advanced tech.

Hey Wayne, I have 2 friends with perpetual licenses they bought within last 12 months, and both were given the upgrade to Studio version. Pretty cool of Avid! Love this update.

Yeah I got the update too, and I also got the perpetual license. We up to what like 512 audio tracks now for the standard version?!
Updates are included for a year that’s nothing special, good luck once that expires if your last update has bugs you’ll be paying again for an update to fix those…

All the studios around Atlanta still use protools 10......nobody I know upgrading....to the new protools.....my self I record in protools 10 a mix in the new logic pro x
I've been on Pro Tools 10 since I've started and just recently updated to the newer Pro Tools. Im mad they're getting rid of Perpetual Licenses because I was saving up for one so I don't have to pay yearly (I like annual subscriptions because I don't have to worry every month) but if they're sticking with the Subscription services then so be it
@@TeezoTarantino 1 thing I learn from Wayne if u an engineer the daw don't matter....I use protools mainly because of the look for people want.....mixing I'm using logic.....to me protools is like a go kart and logic pro x is like your first muscle car...you gotta know what u doing.....

Serious question!... I am still using the "mbox pro 3" as an interface. Will I still be able to use that interface with this new version of Pro Tools? Or am I going to have to buy another interface?

Yeah because needing several thousand tracks comes up nearly everyday SMH, I’ve got a stable load on a perpetual license, I’m good… Freeware is starting to look better and better…. Mixing 9 to 128 channels of surround audio with headphones, I’m sure that works well lol, yeah naw I’ll pass on that too…

I’m on an old Mac with Mojave. PT 12.5 works. $9.99 would put me on the new new BUT, I’d lose my perpetual…and no support for my old Mac. Worth it to lose the perpetual? What the Charge for a perpetual AFTER I demo that $9.99 tier. They not really trying to let me demo like that right?. ProTools First seemed to run ok. So the 2024 version should function-or nah?

I currently don’t mind. And I can stop any time keeping what I have. As far I understand the studio “upgrade” costs me nothing and has no effect on my perpetual license? Not sure I’m going to even bother with it.

not at all, using an iLok is the smartest thing you can do, subscriptions are a waste and you're locked into monthly payments for a year minimum with no way to cancel or pay ahead

I'm still with PT 11HD perpetual, and not planning to upgrade. I see nothing to fall into Avid's greed trap. I'm using more and more Logic Pro X nowadays, as it's a much better midi production tool. It looks like I'll just leave PT for mixing and audio editing, but Avid are just a stupid company that I wanna stay away from in the future.

Can you get a head start for Wavy Elite in Logic. I can't afford a prescription in Pro Tools. I have only enough grey matter to handle Logic

I have the perpetual version but I don’t have the update to switch my pro tools into dark mode, how do I get that without paying $300.00? I spent $700.00 for what I have, don’t want to spend more. I buy plugins from Waves central and izotope. So I’m not tripping about the plugins.

If development was faster and better I wouldn't mind, but with recent years updates and all the mess of shaking up the whole product line and their policy every now and then, makes me run away as much as I love PT.

I’m sick of the subscription Antares slate and izotope and pro tools I’m down with the plug-in subscriptions especially slate it’s an new plug-in with them ever couple months but my Daw idk how to feel about that
