  • History of Darjeeling is an interesting phase of Indian history. Darjeeling - known as the Queen of Hills, is a charming place among the mountains. Be it the scenic beauty of her, the legendary toy train, or the aroma of fresh tea leaves, Darjeeling has given the world, the best of herself. But the history of Darjeeling wasn’t an easy one, it has more to it. She is not just about the mountains; she has an emotional connection with every person who has stepped on her lands. What could it be? The Cord goes DARJEELING to know the truth!

The Cord team failed to go back to the early history of Sikkim before the begining of Chogyal dynasty that begins in 1604 . Prior to this year Sikkim was there and was being ruled by Lepcha King called Ponu Hobam . The territory of Sikkim had extended upto the entire terai belt present Siliguri , Darjeeling kalimpong which became a part of Bhutan later on in 1706. How part of Sikkim became part of Bhutan is related with the event of coronation of Chakdor Namgyal the third son Tenshuge Namgyal . He was the second Chogyal of Sikkim who succeeded his father Phuntsong Namgyal.

Yes. That proves the current Dooars Kalimpong region and Siliguri and Darjeeling are all part of Sikkim and since the mainland Sikkim has also become the 22nd State of India Darjeeling Sikkim must be REUNIFIED and on the basis of majority Gorkhali population, It should be given a new name the Bharatiya Gorkhaland or the Indian Gorkhali State as the fullfillment of PPS..

Darjeeling politics is a failure in political resolution. But that's actually not the main concern for people and leaders in the hills. Although most parties championing Gorkha cause have only sucked up Bengal gov ass and try to hide this. First Subhas Ghising failed to bring statehood by accepting DGHC. Second Bimal Gurung failed to bring statehood by accepting GTA. Third new parties have sucked up Bengal gov ass by making alliance.
The same as how the Gorkhas failed in their raid against Sikkim and British.
This land belongs to money. There is no Gorkha. All people and politicians survive and live on money. The idea of Gorkha identity is only a pseudo political social sentiment that most so called true gorkha people and politicians understand it's false and have aligned themselves with money. They go where money and power is. The truth is Gorkhaland is just a resort to begging goverment. It's like you cannot get 100 in real life but you can get 90. 90 being the core reality.

@@bramstokes7156 the truth no one can hide, erase or forget is that Sikkim is now part of India because of the 97% Nepali majority vote and Darjeeling was leased by the British from Sikkim. These must be REUNIFIED and given a new name Bharatiya Gorkhaland. Bengal cannot claim ex British Administered and developed lands because Bengal is only caretaker NOT THE OWNER. so Bengal must let go of its clutches as soon as the residents want to be separated or that Mainland Sikkim claims back the region.

the original text must have been drafted in English, by Lloyd, and translated into the Lepcha language of the Lepcha version, reproduced in facsimile, by a Lepcha translator employed by Lloyd, as a model for the Rajah to follow in making his gift; this document the Rajah then endorsed, with his red seal, and returned it to Lloyd without change. Lloyd then added the Hindustani translation, in the lower half of the facsimile, which was then further translated to English.

Yes but many argue that colonial documents were fabricated by officials to depict the region as barren and uninhabited, served to justify their action before the British parliament. Also there are some oral histories depicting how mangar, rais existed in darjeeling and sikkim. Like mangar leader has narrated that their ancestor had a mangar king named shintu pati shen who ruled part of land in Sikkim. Tibetans conspired to kill him to get rid of the mangar king and so the queen in her king's funeral poisoned many Tibetans. This was committed in a place known as Tingsong phug or place with thousand corpses. Tibetans later attacked the forts of mangers and on the verge of defeat the queen committed suicide by throwing herself in the river which later was known as Rani khola in Sikkim. They also stated they have the existence of a place called mangarjong in sukhia pokari block as evidence for their presence in the region since ancient times.
      So do your research well.
