I do not own RWBY, RWBY is owned by Rooster Teeth and was created by Monty Oum. I am posting this as a fan, for fans, with no intentions of profit.
I didn't like Weiss much in the beginning, but this season really made strides with her character. Seeing how she didn't cry after her father slapped her and composed herself enough to keep talking back to him honestly made her a favorite of mine now.

I'll be honest: I suspected he was going to hit Weiss in this argument, but I didn't think he would do it so early in.
This...this is the example of being a "overprotective" parents and a example of being possessive towards power,cruelty and manipulation.
"Overprotective" implies he cares at all about his children. This fucker is a sociopath who only sees his kids as tools and only shows them affection when they perform as he wants them to. Once they defy him, they are forced back in line. Once they leave him, they are dead to him.
More like an overprotection of his own name and status. Like Weiss said, he married into the Schnee family, and this is his way of accumulating power through any means necessary to him, with a blatant disregard for anyone else. Jaque Schnee is the RWBY equivalent of Donald Trump!

Honestly, I'm surprised she didn't trash the room before leaving. If in her position, I might have left it in pieces with a message burned into the wall essentially declaring that I left the worthless name behind, as well.
Well, thanks to Aura, everyone in Remnant is superhuman. And Weiss isn't even a DPS/Tank type, she's a support type, so she's not as strong as, say, Yang or Nora.

He was probably scared for weiss but also afraid of his father as well.
At 3:18, Whitley looked surprised and scared about what he overheard.
I think he didn't want this to happen and when Jacque opened the door and looked at Whitley, he changes his face to avoid being treated the same way as Weiss.
That's probably why he's manipulating Weiss for this, he's neutral not evil like Jacque. It's my personal opinion about Whitley.

When Jacques slapped Weiss across the face, I flinched and almost punched my computer screen
It's not really surprising her brother sides with her dad. Their mom is basically a shell of who she used to be, winter left, weiss left. A kid is going to cling to the one family member that's still there. Even their mom says he only clung to him because the girls left and she wasn't able to be there for him.

WTF? This practically means that according to him, Weiss was just roleplaying, making things up, being a Hunter or a Huntress is just a game, etc... I love Weiss since vol 1! Weiss is such a mood with her attitude since vol 1. I love her sass and even if she lashes out sometimes, she apologizes and acknowledges it when she knows she's in the wrong. I love it how she's proud of her family name but despises how her father had done with it's reputation. This volume just buried the nail for all Weiss stans, because it shows just hiw far she'd come.
Why keep her there though? It has to be more than just worrying about the Schnee family name. I mean he could always just disown her like Winter and move on. Does he need her for something? I mean all I could think of off the top of my head is a political marriage. Of course I could be wrong because we don't know how the company inheritance will work but I just gotta know why.

I think it's likely that Jaque did the exact same thing to Winter when she joined the Military and passed her portion of the legacy on to Weiss, only to now have them both passed to Whitley. I wouldn't be surprised if Whitley ends up getting killed later in the series, leaving no real heir to the Shnee family name. I would be equally unsurprised if Jaque found himself in the ass end of a Council meeting that ended with his forceful dismissal, thus solidifying his running the name into the ground.
I don't understand why people don't like Weiss in the first few volumes. She is absolutely amazing and honestly a great embodiment of a child who 'values' her families wishes over and name over themselves. It's trauma.
I have a theory that Weiss's weapon (can't spell it for my life) is from her nana schnee (as mentioned in rwby chibi) because why not

Wow, I was rewatching this scene just for the Weiss and Jaques confrontation but I just noticed that there's some subtle body language that hint at Whitley being more than just being a sleazy little asswipe. Definitely some breif flashes of...concern? Or something. I never paid any attention to him and wrote him off as a one-dimensional dick of a little brother but just noticing those little details that I missed before has me rethinking his whole chatacter.

You'd *THINK* so, I know if I was Nicholas Schnee I'd have certainly made sure my *actual* family (IE, direct blood relatives) were the ones with most direct control (at the very *least* of who was or wasn't inheriting and/or still in the will, certainly) over the fate of the company than some random schlub who only secured the position he has because he married my daughter.
...though more importantly than any that, I'd have actually made sure whoever was planning/trying to marry my daughter was actually someone *WORTH* even breathing the same air and being on the same, fucking *planet* as my family. Jacques Gele (I *refuse* to ever refer to him as a Schnee) fails every single possible criteria...either Weiss' grandfather must have been a *horrible* judge of character, or Jacques is/was just that fucking good of an actor, hell, I'm surprised *both* Willow *and* her father completely failed to see through him before any sort of agreement or marriage went through.
