VISITING KENT, ENGLAND BY CAR ◆ UK TRAVEL VLOG ◆ EYNSFORD, ROCHESTER, AYLESFORD, & DOVER!

  • [Filmed October 5, 2020] In this vlog, Derek and I take the DLR to London City Airport to retrieve our long-term car rental, and then head out for our first day (of two) exploring Kent!
    This video documents Derek’s first time driving on the other side of the road since 2018. We slowly eased our way towards Dover with three fun stops along the way. We had such a fantastic time slowly discovering Kent’s charm, and its beauty exceeded our expectations!
    To begin, we visited the town of Eynsford, where we used our English Heritage membership for the first time ever at the ruins of Eynsford Castle. Then, we enjoyed lunch in town at the Castle Hotel, visited Eynsford Bridge, walked along the River Darent, and meandered around the town before heading onwards towards Rochester.
    In Rochester, we peeked into Rochester Cathedral, walked the grounds of Rochester Castle, and explored Rochester High Street on foot. We next drove to nearby Aylesford to watch the sunset while overlooking its beautiful old bridge. To conclude the day, we checked into our hotel in Dover, and walked to a restaurant near Dover’s harbor.
    It was certainly a full day of exploration around Kent, and I hope you enjoy following along on our adventure! Happy travels!

    I have been to Rochester, it was nice. I went to a cafe and had a chocolate milkshake. I also went to Rochester Castle and Rochester Cathedral. Canterbury is also a great place where I went to the cathedral and the Marlowe theatre and on a river tour that went past the same theatre

      Thanks Glenn! And great question! We had just eaten fish and chips the day prior in Greenwich, so we wanted something different. Plus, the sandwich/burger selections were the less expensive options after having a pricier lunch. That said, in the next vlog to be published where we spend a full day in Dover, you'll see us split a local seafood platter - can't wait!!

    The train which delayed Eliz and Derek at Aylesford was one of the trains which provide high-speed services between London St Pancras and Kent.

    • @MeansToTravel
      @MeansToTravel  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      So cool that you can quickly get to Kent from Central London! Do the railroad crossings always have drivers waiting for a long time before the train comes, or was that an oddity? I grew up two blocks from a commuter train station in suburban Chicago and cars usually only had to wait a minute after the gates went down. Curious!!

    • @rogersexton7857

    Rochester was first given the royal charter for City status during the reign of King Henry III in 1227. But due to an administrative mistake. During local government reorganisation in 1998. It lost its City status. As City status can only be granted to a town by the reigning monarch it hasn't been able to get it back. There are only 69 City's spread over the four countries that make up the UK.
