This is the best pedal demo I've seen yet, in reference to reverb or any other type. You didn't play random chords and mess with buttons, you showed how to master that pedal, and that is worth a million bucks in my eyes.
I’ve had this pedal for months and have repeatedly considered selling it because I can’t get it to work the way I want. This video is exactly what I needed and saved the dark star from the chopping block.
Mine is arriving tomorrow too. And rewatching not for the first time. I'm a bit worried if I might not make it back from my interstellar sonic travels. Are you out there @wideskyguitars?
Dude this is SUCH a great demo. You played real stuff someone would probably use this for. You showed off useable tones that someone would want in a live setting or studio setting. My only critique is I wish we could hear more of the delay mode without the other pedals. But that’s a minor nitpick, overall this is an amazing demo. Thank you! I finally feel like I understand what this pedal can do!
That Cello-like setting sounded awesome! I've owned this pedal for a few years but still haven't experimented with it enough it seems. That ambient feedback tip was also something I hadn't ever thought of. Thanks for letting me fall in love with this pedal again!
Cheers, man! Really happy you liked the demo. Yeah, that dark cello-like setting is one of my faves. Completely transforms your instrument. It's amazing to drive that sound into some vibrato and airy reverb for further movement and dimension 😊
Hope you dig the sounds and the new demo format (the old formats will stil exist. This is just another format). Dark Star is just one of the most unique pedals to ever exist. Still after all of these years (think it's existed for around 5 years), there's still nothing quite like it on the market. Well done OBNE, and thanks for the constant inspiration. If you enjoyed the video, then please consider leaving a like, comment or sharing the video with your friends. Every action truly goes a long way. THANK YOU
Do you use the v1 or 2? I’ve had the v1 since it came out and almost use it as a boost as well because of the dramatic volume jump. Wonder if you noticed that too? Also wonder if the newer ones have soft switch type thing. Love this pedal and your demos.
Jonathan Perez - I have a V2. There’s no volume jump. But if you want it you can boost it via the internal trim pot. And yes, V2 has soft-click switches
Do you know if this pedal was named after John Carpenter's debut feature film of the same name? I wonder what it would make a cover of "Benson Arizona" sound like!
Since you posted this video, I've been seeing a resurgence of them on reddit, facebook, and instagram posts Or maybe they were always there and I'm just now noticing because of you....
I love discovering pedals that are older and don’t have a whole lot of hype around them. This and the Black Fountain are high up on my list. These guys make fun pedals!
The black fountain is definitely underrated. I bought it on a whim, and was shocked that more people don't use it. It sits behind your signal so nicely.
I can't believe you found a way to make your demos better!! I can't believe that was a whole 10 minutes, it barely felt like 2. Thanks for each and every video you put out! You're a huge inspiration to me with guitar, keep it up!!
I thought having the Earthquaker Afterneath, Transmisser, and Avalanche Run would be sufficient enough on the reverb front but it turns out I'm horribly mistaken. Another great video!
4 years old? God damn, best reverb pedal I've ever heard and I'm just now hearing about it??? I have the OBNE reverse and it's awesome, but this I could just leave on all the freaking time! Well, better go get my debit card bruised up a little :D
Such an awesome pedal and a great demo as always! I had no idea about how the loops degrade over time when they are frozen. Have one going now and it's starting to disintegrate and flange in such a cool way.
Thanks, man! Yeah, I discovered that disintegrating drone sound by pure chance while recording a drone for a track I was working on with a friend. Suddenly the drone just started to fall apart and it was the coolest experience ever.
I loooove how Boards of Canada that last bit was! I just bought the Dark Star again a few weeks back, after mistakenly flipping it a while back. I am amazed continually by how it sounds: truly there is nothing that sounds like it :-) Great work Stefan and I dig the new video format, sometime more sounds and less talk equals more feels.
Thank you so much for the kind words, my friend. Means a lot to me 🙏 Stoked you enjoyed the new format and the sounds. Yeah, I love that crackling lo-fi vibrato bend you can get in delay mode when tweaking the delay time. Just brings all the feelz 😊
You’re making me excited as well!! Can’t wait to hear what you think of it. You’re always welcome to tag me on IG with stuff you make with it 😊 I’m humbled and honored that my little demo inspired you to pick up this incredibly inspiring device 🙏❤️

@@thepedalzone Thanks man! I am sure it will become my favorite as well. Now to save up for the Enzo Meris you demo's. You had me sold on that immediately. I wonder how it would sound in a chain with Dark Star after it.

If I didn’t enjoy it, I wouldn’t be making them. It’s that simple 😊 I’m happy you find value in the videos though. Makes it even more enjoyable to keep making them
The Dark Star is probably my favorite pedal ever. It colors your tone maybe too much and is difficult to blend with distortion but boy oh boy, is it beautiful.
The Dark Star is a fierce sonic sorceress. She will devour your core tone, but project star-lit soundscapes and blankets of crackling aural embers in return. It's totally worth it. Love this pedal SO MUCH, and I'm happy to hear you do as well 😊🙌
Thank you for demos treating the more pad/drone aspects of the Dark Star. And the way it fed into that Arapnoid! Glitchy and almost granular-like stutter heaven. Unexpected. 😊
First, thanks for all of the great demos. I've bought a couple of pedals based off of them. Also, I love this video. I immediately wanted one as soon as I saw it. As soon as I showed up with this pedal to my next band practice one of my bandmates said "that sounds fucking incredible...we should write a song around it". This pedal writes songs, or at least inspires them. It's pretty amazing once you get the hang of it and easier to use than you would think. Caveat, I play in a metal band, so you can get some really dark, eerie sounds with it but it's not a one trick pony and it is a pedal that can be used practically. I've had a ton of fun with it.
Your videos are so professionally put together! People have no idea what's required in terms of skill to make quality videos. I really dig your channel Stefan!
It’s a really cool pedal. I considered replacing it, but I have an unexplainable emotional tie to that bit crush mode, and I can’t let it go! Beautiful sound. (And great demo of the possibilities with this pedal!)

I came here after watching your OBNE Sunlight review. Again another perfect demo of a simple yet powerful reverb, no menus or fiddly dip switch stuff going on. I was sold on the Sunlight now I'm not sure? Maybe both, create a lush reverb stereo soup with a bit of parallel/series/feedback blending through a boosted passive Matrix mixer? Keep up the good work.
i really appreciate the time and effort you put into this to explain on how to use it because its a SUPPPPERRRR complex pedal with so many capabilities. i cant even explain it, the pedal is psychedelic as HELL in itself.
Finally a really good demo about one of my favourite pedals! Very usefull Demo format btw! You showed me a lot of "presets" I screenshoted and try out later! Please more of this format! Maybe with the Boss SY-1 and the KMA Horizont. There are soooo many great sounds in these two pedals. Show us your favourite settings plz..

@@thepedalzone I know the videos and enjoyed them (they where one of the reasons I bought these awesome pedals). I mean a video like this "new format" where you show various cool settings on "complex" pedals like for example the horizont and the SY1.
Dude this pedal is amazing and has been in the wishlist for a long time. I know you saw it on Andy Othling’s board and drooled! I love where you take pedals and I constantly ask my own board...”what would Stefan do?”
Dark Star is amazing. I didn’t pick it up after seeing it on Andy’s board though. I’ve owned a Dark Star for almost 4 years now. First the V1 and then I switched to the V2. It’s one of my all time favorite pedals, and I’ve been using it as a first in chain reverb for all of those years. It’s truly where it shines. But the interview I did with Andy showed me that a lot of people weren’t aware of the Dark Star and the importance of first in chain reverbs. So it did make me prioritize to make a demo of this beautiful pedal, so more people could discover its epicness. Honored to hear you find inspiration in the videos and that it translates to the way you experiment with your signal chain in real life 😊
Stefan, I can’t overstate how much I love your demos. You really show the abilities of each of these pedals. I’m wondering if there’s any chance you might review the Flower Pedals Hosta soon? It seems like something that would sound incredible in your hands..
This is really a demo of the Dark Star, where I come back from time to time and enjoy listening. By the way, have you ever thought about a demo video of the Pladask Elektrisk Draume? I would be thrilled to see you exploring that extraordinary reverb.
@@thepedalzone Yeah, it's kind of challenging to get hands on one of Knut's pedals. The Draume is announced for restock end of January. You will not regret to get one ;-)
I have the Afterneath V2 and it is my favorite pedal of all time. Seriously considering getting this next, but I recommend the Afterneath above all. Also, not that you need more to choose from, but in addition to the SLO, the Walrus Fathom is simply amazing!
Had a Slö and Afterneath and sold both, because I didn't like/ need them enough. The Fathom won't leave my board and I think I need a Dark Star now! :D
So funny! I decided two days ago that I should replace my Transmisser with the OBNE Dark Star after looking at some old yt clips. This just popped up! Amazing pedal!
Dark Star into Transmisser is one of my favorite combos. Check out my old Halloween Tonal Teamwork from 2018 of you wanna hear them in action together. Brooding ambience galore 🖤

Thank you so much for the kind words. They go straight to heart ❤❤❤ No plans for a Hosta demo though.
This is really a demo of the Dark Star, where I come back from time to time and enjoy listening.
By the way, have you ever thought about a demo video of the Pladask Elektrisk Draume?
I would be thrilled to see you exploring that extraordinary reverb.
Thanks, buddy! That's really kind of you to say. I don't own a Draume. So it's gonna be a tough demo to do 😊It looks interesting though.
@@thepedalzone Yeah, it's kind of challenging to get hands on one of Knut's pedals. The Draume is announced for restock end of January. You will not regret to get one ;-)
New thumbnail is killer.
Thanks! Not every day I get that kind of feedback. Happy you dig it ☺
ThePedalZone I’ve been watching this channel for years and it’s gets more perfect as time goes on. Much appreciated.
I'm obsessed, I can't wait for mine to come in today
Stoked to hear you got one on the way 😊🙌
Wow. I was debating between the Walrus Slo and the EQD Afterneath V3 for my next reverb pedal, and then you toss this into the ring!
Sorry to make your decision even harder 😊
I have the Afterneath V2 and it is my favorite pedal of all time. Seriously considering getting this next, but I recommend the Afterneath above all.
Also, not that you need more to choose from, but in addition to the SLO, the Walrus Fathom is simply amazing!
Had a Slö and Afterneath and sold both, because I didn't like/ need them enough. The Fathom won't leave my board and I think I need a Dark Star now! :D
Reminding me that I don't use mine nearly enough! Awesome work as always.
Thank you very much! Now go use that Dark Star some more. It's KILLER! 😊
Wonderful sounds, I didn't realise it could so much!
Thanks, dude! Awesome to hear that my demo helped reveal some of the massive potential this pedal holds 😊
The flanginess of the Polymoon at the last clip makes it for me.
Happy you enjoyed that bit 😊
Very very COOOOooooooolll!!
Thanks!! Dark Star is hella cool!
