I have watched enough of your videos that I automatically give a thumbs up as soon as they start, and I haven't had to change that once. I have to say that your winters seem pretty nice. I say that after having lived in or worked in damn near every area of Canada. 40C down to -55C. Thanks for sharing your work, stay safe and keep the videos coming!
Great vids mate just binged watched loads, your like the Jamie Oliver of carpenters.. Realy well edited and done professionally.. Keep up the crisp work. 🤘
Hey nice work, was wondering if you had/could do an episode on cutting cladding for head flashings, especially for a reno where new windows are being put into existing openings.
For me, the ideas in th-cam.com/users/postUgkxAfqpMLyFn37qcqUl0FAzqkkycQeXqrhP Plans were a starting point for building different sheds . Ryan gives ideas that allow an individual to draw nicest conclusions into the design and building of his or her own shed.
@Tonisuperfly just gives front of window extra support. Especially if it's a wide window . Even with a WANZ bar / support bar . The sill tray will be ontop of wanz bar. Window ontop of sill tray which has about a 6mm upstand. So front of window is floating 6mm with no support and will usually try to sag
I would like to know why you pack the side from top to bottom instead of using packers with every fixing? Have you just measured the width and made it tight fit? Thanks
geez you guys are #winning all day long with the subs - up to 330 already! awesome man! Was looking out for you guys at Makita roadshow - wanted an autograph, had to settle for a crappy free beer and 3Ah battery instead.
Rob Trautvetter - Takami Woodshop 😂😂 man, they are giving away free batteries ? I didn't even know that event was on. Next time! Thanks for the support bro
Hey Scott love the videos, at 6minutes in the handybracket is on the outside of the bottom plate just woundering if there was a reason bhind it or if thats just how you do them
Hey, thanks. No real reason, just the way we did it. In this case we had to put 150mm coach screws through the bracket and into the joist below. There is a double joist under that wall frame. We put the bracket to one side of the frame so we would get into the middle of the joist. Thanks for watching bro!
Great video! Just wondering if windows installed this way only in Nelson? 😳Our windows in Auckland were installed by installers, that we were unfortunate to hire, in a horribly different way😩 One leaked already! Pity, can't attach the pictures to show.
You deserve more than 300k! Also how do you seal those windows? In the US we would tape to the actual window and seal with window foam (closed cell foam insulation in a can)
How important do you think the drainage is? I make joinery and we treat it like water will be flowing down the sides/inside. Where would that moisture come from and how could it be so much that it flows?
Hi Scott, love the channel. Question for you, do you nail through you window packers or just below. 10 years I’ve been installing Windows and I don’t nail through packers. Now new Forman at my new job tells me to go back and put a second nail in all reveals to make sure that packer is secured. Any ideas.
Loving the videos mate - quick question why did you need the flashings on the new windows but for the window you relocated you didn't? Or did we just not see this in your other video? Cheers!
That cedar will warp and cup in the harsh NZ sun without the nails in the lower edge. Those bronze button head nails are the norm here. Or rather, were the norm and they still often get done that way.
Can you imagine a"professional" in the UK turning up for a "I rip you off for as much as I can job" and say to the customer "I'm excited to install your windows today".
No safety glass when cutting on the saw. and metal of all things .. do you put shims in where you screwed the window frame to the rough opening ?? seems you mate needs to get some safety glasses , you only have one set of eyes. Since the window on the outside does not sit flush to the wall , would there be an air gap between the inside of the window and where you blocked it in on the inside of the frame, and if so do you put expansion foam or foam backing rod in the air gap.???? Or do you just leave it and let the interior window trim deal with it ???
That sill flashing and H3 packers to the jambs are only required on a non cavity construction.A trap prenail detailers need to be aware of....ask me how i know!?:(
Look I’m not trolling you at all but you need to stop saying the “ Scott brown here “ at the start ! It irritating and we know who you are it’s in your channel name it just comes across a little forced and cringed that’s all.
Man, going back to watch some of
Your older stuff after falling into the new is real satisfying.

LOL Jamie Oliver of Carpenters! That's funny . Thanks man, doing my best!
I'm cleaning my site up after seeing yours.
Man, life in NZ looks amazing.
Very good Scott & Paerau from Scott Brown Carpentry .. informative , interesting and fun👍⚒🔨⚒😎
Wow started binging these yesterday and I’m episode 55 now! Seriously good stuff mate
Hey nice work, was wondering if you had/could do an episode on cutting cladding for head flashings, especially for a reno where new windows are being put into existing openings.
Did you use a wood blade to cut the metal flashing at 2:43?
You've mastered Casey's videography style.
Thank you Scott Brown for the video..👍

We put packers on the sill tray to match the height of the upstand. Usually 5mm
You put packers on top of the sill tray?
@@Tonisuperfly yup.

@@flying_k1wi215 gotcha. That makes sense
How do you caulk where window external flange meets stepped siding?
I would like to know why you pack the side from top to bottom instead of using packers with every fixing? Have you just measured the width and made it tight fit? Thanks
What happened to the layer of waterproofing that should have surrounded the window opening? I did not see it there when you put in the window.
You fastforwared the upstand folding. Need a tutorial on that, please. 😁

Oh in addition to caulking to window and siding
Yes we do the same in NZ.
No cavity Betton for weatherboard?
How important do you think the drainage is? I make joinery and we treat it like water will be flowing down the sides/inside. Where would that moisture come from and how could it be so much that it flows?
Any reason why no cavity battens behind the cladding??
Hi Scotty I want to replace my timber window frames. UPVC or ALLOY window frames?
Raise the drywall/plaster board off the floor. It pulls up moisture from the cold concrete
That’s an interesting looking hammer? How does that go framing?
Ethan Neale it's a beast, perfect for framing. light as, great leverage
And the water goes “wee” off there. Sound effects check!!😂

Hi Scott do you silicone down the side of your windows?
Alcor (flexible, aluminium damp course) sub sill flashing all day. Cheaper and easier to install.

curious why u went with exposed nails on the siding when they could have easily be hidden.. still looks good just never seen it. gud vid
We did it to match the existing cladding

@@DiscoFang
You also need to reseal your cedar every couple of years in NZ to avoid warping.
We need more dramatic music on future episodes.

Do u need sill tray for timber window? Hv an old nz bungalow fixing window.
All direct fix cladding windows
Looking good Scott!
Paerau is going to look like 80’s Schwarzenegger if he keeps making these bets with you 😎
It's a win win
Those boards and those nails look MINT!

Wow i left my 2x4 in a room for a day
And the next morning they were like bananas and had to bring em back
101 stuff, if you are LBP in NZ.
There is no cavity?
Do not require a cavity on new builds depending on materials used.
Yep, that is a more detailed answer to the Q
Thx for the reply, that is good know
Im alumnium worker india kerala
Hi Scott another name for the upturned end of the sill tray is “end dam”. Keep up the good content
Sweet, thanks man
Why put back in an existing single glazed window and double glaze the new ones.
Kind of backwards thinking

Scott Brown here, thanks for the comment 👍
I disagree, i feel the intro has become an intregal part of the Scott Brown carpentry experience!
