      Luke Bryan's Knockin' Boots sounds like late 1970s and 80s hit that some country artists did back then. Lets not knock Luke down on his songs. It is Nashville heads pushing those songs. Blake, Luke, Chris Young, Justin Moore and even some of Thomas Rhett is going retro thanks to Luke Combs, Jon Pardi, Cody Johnson, Chris Jansen, Aaron Watson and others bringing back country classic sounds back. Plus, you all have not seen Garth Brooks on Saturday Night Live. It is who he is. Garth as the Ol' France Ho as Garth dressed up as a France prostitute. He was funny on there.

      Let the hating begin but I have never been a Garth Brooks fan. Just do not care for him or most of his music. I like good songwriting. The Dance was an exception. The other being Shameless which was a redo of Billy Joel's. I think there is such a thing as overexposure. Just because a certain singer puts out a song or music does not make it good. Everybody has an opinion so take it for what it is worth. But then again, I never watched Titanic either 😨 To each his own.

    • @nutritionperfection
      @nutritionperfection 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Agreed, my thought when he said that was "who alive really is on Garth's level?". Of course not all of Brad's stuff is amazing but given his success (19 number ones, 32 top 10, member of the Grand Ole Opry etc.) saying he won't be a legend is...odd. All because he won't have the success of Garth... Given his success who knows what he will do in later years but if the bar to meet for legend status is Garth Brooks everyone in the industry is bound to fail.

    The appalling treatment of women in country music has been going on for about 2 decades now. The 60's & 70's gave us some real country legends (Tammy Wynette, Loretta Lynn, Dolly Parton, Barbara Mandrell, Dottie West, Anne Murray, Reba McEntire etc), not much in the 80's, then the 90's gave us some big new female artists who were amazing (Lorrie Morgan, Trisha Yearwood, Martina McBride, Faith Hill, Shania Twain, Terri Clark, Jo Dee Messina, Sara Evans, LeAnn Rimes and Lee Ann Womack among them), but sadly by the late 90's/early 00's, women became uncool or undesired at radio and they began to fade away or have disappointing chart performances. Since then, for every Carrie Underwood or Miranda Lambert there have been countless briliant new artists (like Tammy Cochran, Chalee Tennison, Catherine Britt, Rebecca Lynn Howard, Sonya Isaacs, Jessi Alexander, Sherrie Austin, Anita Cochran, Amber Dotson, Kellie Coffey, Danni Leigh, Allison Moorer, Whitney Duncan, Susan Haynes, Jamie O'Neal, Kellie Pickler, Julie Roberts, Ashton Shepherd, Gretchen Wilson etc) who have been largely and criminally overlooked.

    I agree about all-women tours. I'm glad people are starting to pay attention to the lack of air time given to women, but I find it condescending and insulting to play it like women need to be thrown a bone or given special treatment in order to keep up with male vocalist.
    If a female artist has good material, play them. If they don't, don't play them. Same with male artists.

    • @amandabreach8776
      @amandabreach8776 4 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      completely agree with this! I also dont think the women now are getting good material to work with or maybe they are just not picking well. The songs just arent that great. So maybe its a demand thing, they arent getting played bc the public doesnt request their songs. I feel like women country singers are being forced down our throats and for the most part right now its just not great music

      I agree, I was a teenager in the 90s and the women in country music were absolutely my favorites. I loved all of them (I liked the guys too but the ladies were awesome). I used to be a huge Carrie fan, but I haven't liked any of her songs in years, same with Miranda. Honestly Carly Pearce is one of the few current female country singers I actually like, along with some of Runaway June's songs. I don't think the quality of either voices or songs from the current ladies is up to par with where the women of country were 20 years ago and that's why they're not as popular today.

Pick a week at random, like your birthday week, and pick a starting year (2019, 1990, whatever) and then move either backwards or forwards in like 6 or 12 month steps and see how the top 5 or 10 songs change over time. The situation for women in country is tough and the solutions are complicated. I don't mind tours and spaces devoted solely to women. The Lilith Fair comes to mind. A lot of people put it down now, but it was an empowering thing for women to come together and create a tour like that. It was extremely successful and raised millions for various charities. Women are being pushed out of mainstream country and struggling to get air play that is equal to men. I'm not sure what more they can do. They're certainly making great music, but it's not getting the attention it deserves. I grew up in the 1990s and early 2000s when I remember women being all over country radio and CMT. Martina, Trisha, Shania, Faith, etc were the norm and they were powerhouses. If they tried to launch their careers today, it would be a different story. At the same time, it does feel condescending to just devote one hour of radio to women instead of including their songs the entire time. And it's easy to put all the women on stage at the CMAs and make a performative gesture about the value of women but it's much harder to change the systemic issues that are causing all of this in the first place. I don't have the answers, but I hope things are changing. I think with Kacey winning at the Grammys, the release of The Highwomen record, and now this focus on women at the CMAs hopefully the tide is turning. I'm really glad that Carrie and Miranda continue to champion and lift women up on their tours. Just my two cents. Great video as always!

    I absolutely love Brad Paisley and his guitar playing is legendary. That’s his signature for sure. I do think you comment about “dad joke lyrics” could be true that he’s wore that out a bit but I’ve noticed that he hasn’t had a #1 single or a single nomination at an awards show since he began producing his own albums. Wheelhouse was his first one. Love & War is a well done album with a very good message but it is deep and isn’t as tongue in cheek as some of his past stuff. The same thing happened to Alan Jackson. Once he started producing his own material with Thirty Miles West the Hits stopped coming. Same with Toby Keith. Also in the industry today it seems to me like shelf life for radio is about 15-20 years of your a established artist otherwise you get 1-2 years to make something happen before they chew you up and spit you out for the next thing.

    Stopped the video after the Brad Paisley segment: There's a part of me that is disappointed that Brad isn't bigger. I always liked his sound growing up and people around me also liked his music. The biggest compliment that someone told me about Brad was 'He's going to be one of those artists that other musicians will do covers of his songs.' Now, I didn't delve into his music history but I'm pretty sure that I've never heard someone cover his songs. I'm not taking away his success, just seems like he never crossed that threshold.
    Maybe that's a video idea. Lol.

    I completely agree with the idea that Red Dirt music is unnecessarily lumped in with Texas Country. They are two completely different sounds. At least they were. And it doesn’t matter where anyone is from. I think Randy Rogers is Red Dirt and Aaron Watson is Texas Country. Yes, it’s all considered one scene, but they are two separate genres. It’s like they’re step-siblings, different parents, but living under the same roof. Same family, different DNA.

  • @RandyBadour
    @RandyBadour 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    I think the female (not being played) thing is largely because the songs really are not on par with the 90s ladies and before. A large majority of the female songs are like man hating (I can buy my own drinks / before he cheats etc etc) and not to many males would LIKE that type of song so right off the jump they are cutting their audience in half by alienating that demo. Among other things but this is something I haven't heard discussed and it is something I know I feel when i hear that type of song. Men frame songs borderline worshiping women...the opposite coming from the other side.

    Totally agree regarding Kacey Musgraves. "Pageant Material" is a splendid country album while "Golden Hour" is a boring pop album. But what puzzles me most is that Norways biggest newspaper gave a glowing review of "Golden Hour". "What, have we listened to the same album?!" I asked myself.......

    Comment has nothing to do with the video (maybe Garth) but how long is the shelf life of an artist before they start fading away? Is it until the next new "thing" arrives, 3rd release album, they've hit the multi million level? All the above or something else? Music Industry is fickle. One day you're hot & the next you're not. Whose holding the hot/cold meter? Makes me think about Kenny Chesney & how he was everywhere. Now, he's a pirate sailing around the Caribbean.

    So I ended up in the video! Haha let me explain, I dont think that all my favorite artists need to agree with me, but when I look up to other genres and see so many artists bringing up important issues, I feel upset that country singers dont. With so many awful things happening in the US and abroad, I dont think you can be neutral in those kind of situations. And the backlash that the Dixie Chicks received was beyond acceptable, its sad that others may feel afraid to say something because of that

If you ever get a chance, one of his new songs is called heaven bound balloons.

    One of the things about the all women events, I would say it's good, but in a way it hinders the over all reach of female artists. One thing I wish yal had touched on is the fact that if it's an all female tour, some people won't be interested in it all, but when a male and female tour together maybe fans come for one, but are then exposed to the other artist. Same with female artist hour. Some people might be like oh it's 8pm, female artist hour, I'm gonna do something else, but if you just play female artists during regular programing, people would leave it on anyways, as they listen and are then hearing an artist they may not know about.
