    I've trained in over half a dozen different martial arts during my life. I was fortunate that Kyuokushin was the very first one, which established my initial core principles and habits. The other styles I tried included other Karates like Shotokan.
    Those traditional clowns really have no clue just how brutally efficient of a style Kyuokushin is. After trying those other styles I decided F*ck it, nothing else works, and I went back to Kyuokushin which I train in to this day. They train EVERYTHING. Strength, speed, agility, footwork, tactics. The instructors know, and say, that if you don't have a strong body you will get injured in that style, so they MAKE you have a strong body; the excercises they put you through just as the warmup hit every bloody muscle in your body head to toe, THOROUGHLY. Everything is efficient and PRACTICED, again and again, in katas, drills, bagwork and full on sparring.
    And you don't even have to be that big to be effective at it. In my class right now there's a mere 13 year old girl, 5'2", barely 100lbs soaking wet, yet her kicks are so brutal she will take your damn head off if you don't pay attention (and I'm 6'2" 270lbs, I pay VERY close attention to her legs whenever we spar)

      I think contact sparing is a pretty big component to effective training.
      It looked like the Chinese crew never trained with contact. They threw strikes outside of effective range.
      That dragon tail sweep in the first match was telling. It landed, but was slightly out of range and had no power behind it. As if the technique had never been used to actually sweep anybody. The fighter wasn't utilizing kinetic chain well.
      The kyokushin fighter made good use of his kinetic chain. It was apparent he was used to something a little more harsh than playing tag.
      Pain is a powerful motivator.

      Well said.. any martial arts which make claims of combative legitimacy should be held to this standard. We need more organizations in place to stop scam artists and other undesirables in the martial arts sphere. Systems which are for self preservation should be direct and proven to be as such, others that are more for exercise and philosophical stuff should be clear as well.

      @@miya6008 This is a late response, but I came to despise the term "Martial Arts".
      The sheer hubris of describing a fighting system as an "Art" is irksome to me.
      Very few fighting systems are complete, and most offer a solution to a limited range of problems. All have strengths and weaknesses and some, like Aikido, are simply esoteric explorations of a very specific set of interactions that can occur within combat, and consequently useless on their own.

Still, I think it could be interesting if the Kung Fu guys added hard and free sparring to their practice, which would initiate a much more efficient style of movement and attack (because they'd have to use what worked) and it might make something interesting. I don't know.

      @piotrcwiertniewski4213 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It's OK to practice traditional Kung-Fu but you just need to have "something" for real combat. Street fight is mostly box, grappling + low kicks. You need boxing guard, fast moving and strong low kicks. That's why Bruce Lee trained in traditional Wing Chun developed JKD. Still I have a great respect for martial artists keeping up traditional styles as a heritage. BTW - Kyokushin is not traditional Karate as well - it's kind of Japanese JKD designed by Oyama ;-)

    • @darrenfrancis7146
      @darrenfrancis7146 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@piotrcwiertniewski4213 your analysis of Kyokushin is totally wrong. There are no techniques in Kyokushin derived from outside of Karate.
      Kyokushin is actually a combination of two ‘styles’ of Karate, the low grade syllabus contains mostly Shotokan karate kata and the high grade syllabus contains Goju karate Kata. This mirrors Oyama’s own path in karate as he started Shotokan and later moved to Goju. Oyama was also a judo dan grade, but none of this made it into the Kyokushin syllabus. There are no techniques in Kyokushin that can’t be found in other styles of karate. So Kyokushin is a blend of karate styles trained in a way that emphasises heavy conditioning and full contact contest.

      @@darrenfrancis7146 I'm not an expert in Kyokushin Karate (I focus mostly on Chinese martial arts) so I'm pretty sure you are right. But I've never claimed that Kyokushin rejected traditional Karate forms - I only claimed that Masutatsu Oyama formed his own way, stating that it's better than traditional path. By traditional path I mean Gichin Funakoshi's karate derived directly from Okinawa. Oyama's approach includes thesis that kumite is vital element of martial arts. He also introduced iken inspired by wushu yiquan to develop mental strength (totaly outside of Karate). So I dare to risk a claim that Kyokushin Karate is kind of schism to traditional Karate represented by Funakoshi. Just like JKD to wing-chun. And the reasoning behind this schism was similar - make martial art more modern and applicable in real combat.

    • @darrenfrancis7146
      @darrenfrancis7146 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@piotrcwiertniewski4213 it may be justifiable to call Shotokan ‘traditional’ Karate now, but at the point Funakoshi changed his art (by removing most of the grappling to please the Japanese as they already had grappling arts) this form of Karate was far from traditional. Other masters of the time were furious that Funakoshi was leaving the art incomplete. Karate was only named Karate in 1936! In origin Karate is a combination of White Crane, Five Ancestor and the now very rare Incense Shop boxing, often simplified from the originals and trained in a very different way by the Okinawans. Ikken is practiced very rarely in Kyokushin but you will see similar in older Okinawan styles like Uechi-Ryu.
      Much was lost in the transition of Karate to Japan, and Karate’s potential as an art to protect you in a real fight was substantially weakened by what what not brought from Okinawa. Oyama placed more emphasis on fighting and conditioning than his contemporary Japanese, but a similar amount to the earlier Okinawans who used this art to really fight! Had Oyama learnt the older Okinawan forms of the Karate Styles he studied then it’s possible Kyokushin would be a further different style.

    • @user-oq5yr1kp1d
      @user-oq5yr1kp1d 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I native Japanese but even I got confused it was difficult but! finally I found the answer using my headphone.
      The tricky part was Theres two persons voice overlapping in that part.
      Last part is the Ref saying “ zokkou!”
      「続行」meaning “go on”or “continue on”
      so the girl responding “iyaiya”「イヤイヤ」meaning “no no no”.
      So she couldn’t believe that the ref
      said “continue the fight” after watching the guy getting kicked in the head so bad.
      And other reason is I found other part the ref saying the same word “hai zokkou!” in 1:24 after he had another hard hit. in boxing itll be like “fight!”or adding “hai” will be “Okay Fight!”
      And the first part witch seems to be the guy zoomed in(brown jacket)
      Everybody is surprised saying “ahh””woo” and the guy says”iya mou” witch means “noo this should be….” (stopped)
      they are worried about the kung-fu guys injury from the beginning.
      As a host of the show, he’s kinda worried it might turn out to be bloody torture show and some accident might happen.
      Over all those to persons voices are really similar so Even I thought first
      it was a one sentence.
      The answer is “iya mou” + “ zokkou!” and the “zo” part is hidden
      covered by the first one.
      And you mentioned you hear a “Ja”first and it does sounds like”Jya mou” but thats some other voice saying oohs and ahhs

    If you want to know who is real martial artist just look no further than their forearms. When I studied Japanese Kendo and even Korean Hapkido, both my instructors had absolutely massive forearms compared to their height and weight. I don't know if this kungfu guy is just trolling or what but his arms are absolutely puny while the Karate guy has at least a decent sized frame. Kungfu guy looks like he never practiced hitting a punching bag in his life.

    One too many movie fantasies.
    Fact is, the drunken training forms
    were never meant to be used that way.
    You're NOT supposed to face an opponent like some drunken fool !
    That's complete misunderstanding of what the 'drunken' aspect
    is all about.
    It is the same with guys who think that Praying Mantis style
    means you sway your hands when facing your opponent.
    Utter rubbish from movies.

      @Joey Diaz shotokan kyoukushin wado ryu goju ryu, that's all karate with some slight difference, and no it depends on the person not the art. Imagine a karate practioner figjting a real kung fu drunken fist. It would depends on their qualities not the art their using, if one of them is hit in a vulneruble spot and can't continue that doesn't prove that one style is better than the other but instead that one person is better at fighting than the other, that ofcourse is with the rules etc.
