  • Weird History presents Timeline 1998. Timeline is going back to the 90s and showing you all the news, culture, sports, entertainment, and all that was weird in the year 1998. '98 will be remembered for Bill Clinton getting impeached, the Chicago Bulls winning their second three-peat, and Oprah getting sued by Texas cattlemen. Take a nostalgic trip back to 1998.

American Beauty won the top categories (Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actor, Best Original Screenplay and Best Photography) in 2000, the year in all these films were eligible for nomination.
The Matrix was only nominated for technical awards (Best Film Editing, Best Sound, Best Sound Effects Editing, Best Visual Effects), though it won them and Fight Club was only nominated for sound effects editing, losing out to The Matrix.

@@nationalduo4945 Even in the 1980's, with the threat of nuclear annihilation at the hands of the Soviets, it was better than these modern times. Advertising and pop culture have raised several generations now, and it's just terrible. Truth or authenticity are rarely seen. Everything is hyper-partisan. Everyone is faux-offended. All the real problems of the world are ignored. Few appreciate what they have because they're not experiencing the wider world.
Basically all that we hoped for in the 80's in 90's regarding the future have turned out opposite. So when young people talk to me about hope for the future today, I roll my eyes and think to myself _It will only get worse, my child._

Sega knew the Dreamcast wasn't going to sell well. They released it knowing, at most, they'd get some return on investment before the PS2 dropped. Rightfully so, they knew the PS2 would decimate the console market's competitors. It was a neat system but Sony's always been on the up and up in making their consoles multi-functional, which is a huge selling point for parents.
