10:32 "Tomura, let me stab him. Real quick." I think that's an interesting line. There is absolutely no bloodlust in it. Just hate for Overhaul. She's angry-angry, not happy-angry. She familiarizes herself with Shigaraki enough to consider their relationship first name basis. she respects Shigaraki's authority enough to ask for his permission.
This episode showcases a big part of Shigaraki's development as a character. Back at the beginning of the series, he would've immediately tried to destroy whatever annoyed him. Especially if it was disrespectful. But here, he's calm for a while even after Overhaul disrespects him, isn't even the first person to jump into the mix, and is studying his opponent while preventing the rest of his team from attacking and unlike back at the beginning of the series, actually cares about those in the League. He's learning as a villain that sometimes waiting before striking is key. And that's what makes Shigaraki compelling.
But that's the thing. Overhaul doesn't disrespect or insult him. He tells him the truth. He's not wrong. Shigaraki's like a rabid dog that just bites at everything and while he's managed to get that sort of under control, he's still completely ignorant on how basically anything works.
One of the subtler things I love about this series is the UA seniors. In many series, especially shonen ones, a group called 'The Big Three' would be a bunch of opponents to be overcome. Senior students abusing their power and lording it over their juniors. But UA is about training heroes, and these three show it. They're supportive and nice people who want to help their underclassmen. At worst they're an important benchmark that newer students should aim for, and it's refreshing to see that as opposed to the 'evil student council' trope.
The Big Three do point out a problem at the start of the show. It’s stated the teacher always throws one student out and once even dismissed an entire class. Yet the big three were not great at the start. Is it canon that the teacher Izowa did this, or is it just an idle threat to motivate students? If he actually did it, he could have tossed out potential LeMillions who would have gotten better! It’s really troubling unless Izowa was bluffing but i think it’s leaned into pretty hard that he was not.
@@RLucas3000 Or that they just had a different home room teacher first year. That's what I assumed at first, that they got Vlad King's class or something similar.

I like this episode because it's officially where they introduce death as a possibility. It's been pretty happy-go-lucky up until people straight up start exploding. Introduces stakes that didn't feel present in the past.
D-did you miss the part where Aizawa's skin was shattered exposing what was underneath, or how about Izuku constantly breaking his limbs and we see them flailing around in early fights.
@@Cloud-dt6xb That's exactly WHY death didn't feel possible. Sure, he was injured, but having somebody be in that situation and not die is crazy. Also, none of the students got so much as injured. Deku breaking his own limbs, which we fully expect every time it happens, doesn't feel like "oh no he's in danger" because, well, we expect it, and he does it to himself. There are countless scenarios where it would be SO easy and make SO much sense to kill people, but they didn't. Stain was the closest, but he still never killed anybody on screen. 29:50 I feel like Montana is going to misunderstand here. The Yakuza are not Quirkless. 80% of society has Quirks and you have inherently more value to criminals of any kind if you have a quirk. 200-ish years ago when Quirks began showing up in the Gene pool, those who had malicious intent and strong quirks weren't going to be joining the Quirkless crew of nobodies. They began collecting other quirk users for their crew. And as time passed there was no need for strong Quirk users to join the Yakuza, some would be joining the Yakuza with Quirks of course but they never managed to fight back against the rise of Superpowered villains.
One major reason why the yakuza fell was because of their organization. Large groups of people were easier to find and dismantle in the Age of All Might, especially since the the families and bloodlines in charge were in place before the quirk revolution, and thus not related to the strength of their quirks. Whereas single rouge villains were more slippery and harder to track down. Now that All Might is gone, it's easier for large groups to band together and act while the heroes are in a state of uncertainty.

So he likely wouldn’t be in a position to ask for work study students. And now he’s taking All-Might’s place of being in the league of villains investigation to both give All-Might peace but also loosens Deku’s burden from ANYTHING AFO related getting thrown his way for the time being. AND he directs Deku towards Sir Nighteye. Am I going to point out that even these background actions do more for Deku’s hero growth than…90% of what All-Might has done across the show? Yeah. And therefore will go out of their way to remove such a public obstacle. See President John F Kennedy. That’s a PRESIDENT. (I know there’s different functionality differences but I’m just going to treat the Yakuza like the Mob in America for simplicity sake.) Imagine how organized crime feels about someone literally INDESTRUCTIBLE who keeps showing up at their bases. They have no real family to target and take advantage of, they are well off and uncorrupted by wealth, and have no weakness of ANY kind to really exploit. And that’s where people like Shigaraki and Overhaul get their advantage. BECAUSE they’ve stuck it out, they have an early advantage. But we’ve focused SO much on All-Might’s retirement we haven’t really focused on what happens now that AFO is gone. Here’s the truth. The power vacuum of AFO is a massive one too. Just because Shigaraki is the official successor doesn’t mean other people can’t see the vacuum and gun for it. Just like Deku and All-Might’s vacuum. The succession takes time. Everything Overhaul makes a point of asking Shigaraki is also true for Deku. What happens when you DO rule? You can gun for the throne or the top of the tower, but there’s more once you GET there. He’s WEAKENED by All-Might so thoroughly suppressing organized crime but has the MEANS to fill AFO’s role by his claims. That’s quite a statement considering AFO can topple COUNTRIES. Overhaul when he doesn’t get his way is very interesting though. Shigaraki is often childish and throws tantrums. But Overhaul is a BIT different. Overhaul has a MUCH more…manipulative thought process than Shigaraki. When Magne….loses…let’s say couldn’t hold herself together, the conflicts of personalities appear in the League. They all want to do whatever they want, but have next to no unity even as Shigaraki tries to command authority. Meanwhile Overhaul gets people to die for him IMMEDIATELY, and without so much as signaling his henchmen, they are all coordinating with his every move. And having Shigaraki curiously AVOIDING the carnage he so loves to cause is curious. The manipulation of Overhaul is a lot more complex and we’re only seeing early stages of what he wants. But I think it’s safe to say he is of the dark triad of personality. The Machiavellian. And that’s a WEALTH of possibility there. But then we got the work studies. Bakugo is THRILLED to hear he can’t fall behind when work studies are too soon to be on the table. But is immediately put in his place because Class 1-A has to be the REASON they want the program for 1st years so they can best protect themselves since they are all potentially on a villain hitlist considering the camp attack. And worse? If anyone is guaranteed to HAVE an opportunity to get a proven track record work study…it’s All-Might’s successor. Rough start to your competition with OFA, Bakugo. And it is also refreshing to have All-Might saying let’s prioritize OUR training before I send you to another hero. Much more to the point it seems Sir Nighteye is a point of contention for All-Might. (Love the other teachers chiming in on their opinions too about work studies) But Deku unlike Shigaraki doesn’t feel entitled to any of this but wants to fight the opposition anyhow. He wants to save and help others. And that doesn’t require the instant pressure of the symbol. This just lets the pursuit be a bit more personal for Deku for once. And All-Might rewards the passion by bringing Mirio into the mix. Mirio takes the moment to ask what kind of hero Deku wants to be. And even WITHOUT All-Might’s succession, PURELY PERSONAL, Deku has put an IMMENSE pressure on his shoulders. And you can see Mirio eyeing up Deku as he says who he wants to be and sees the look in his eyes. The ripped apart arms, the eyes full of both hope but also concern. Someone who wholeheartedly believes in the path of selflessness. And while that doesn’t exactly say what kind of hero he wants to be (which is also because Deku has to be 4/4 hero classes. And doesn’t have the luxury of choice. Something Mirio doesn’t see or understand) it is enough drive to convince Mirio to do his best to recommend him. It’s so great to see everything start to slow down for the 1st time for many characters since…god. BEFORE the USJ, the pace for these kids has been IMMENSE and you finally have a spare weekend to just relax and study. But NOT Todoroki, Bakugo, and Deku. Todoroki and Bakugo have what I can assume are weekend classes for getting their provisional license after their failure. But are completely shut off from action. They’re in the same boat. And Bakugo STILL wants to say he’s ahead in that boat. (Ironically Todoroki has the edge with better rescue temperament than Bakugo.) And Deku LITERALLY leaves EVERYTHING in the dust bolting off at 147 mph. And every step of the way going to the Nighteye agency you can feel the rising pressure and expectation that come from the office itself. FAR greater than Gran Torino’s. (But Nighteye doesn’t require a low profile like he does.) And Deku has a SPECTACULAR task ahead of him. Make Sir laugh. Deku is not exactly the jokester type because of how nonstop his brain is. His sense of humor is certainly no All-Might. And the fact he takes JOKING so seriously with immense preparedness…he’s doomed to fail. (Still great All-Might face) Not that I blame him when he walks in to see Nighteye being REALLY weird with Bubble Girl. How this episode went from watching a turf war transition to a man unironically choosing tickle torture for laughter is beyond me but here we are. Next time Deku really puts himself on the line for this job.
@@Friki015 this show could have definitely benefit over being able to spread itself out a bit more. I definitely enjoy the quiet moments where characters just get to be themselves without stakes. And it’s good that they do that so they don’t run into a dragon ball problem where it’s accelerated SO much that now there’s just simply no turning back as a result.
Shigaraki is a petulant man child, but overhaul is absolutely terrifying. This arc is incredible, and I can’t wait to see what your thoughts on it are/
If you think about it, Sir Night Eye's precognitive abilities in combination with All Might would have been a potent mix. Remember Mystique from the X-Men? In the comic books, the love of her life is a lady with similar powers. That is also a very potent combination of superpowers. He girlfriend identifies key moments in history, and Mystique uses her power to infiltrate whatever wherever and alter the course of future history.
I always wonder how all the reactors missed this point that both Mirio & Overhaul are challenging the position of our Protagonist & Antagonist i.e. Deku & Shigaraki. And our new duo seems more competent than previous one in every shape and form. So it's also connecting them in a way on what makes them special or why they should be the one to carry the torch forward. Although I hate how Almight giving his powers to Mirio point gets retconned for a big reveal later on.
I didn't really notice that connection, if anything I see it less of a challenging the position actively and more like characters that aren't the protagonist and antagonist but are more alike the predecessors. Is the retcon you're mentioning in the anime, or the manga?
@@kvng7723I disagree. It wasn't bad. Even if he did give it to Mirio, it would've worked, and he would've been the greatest hero ever. It's just that the consequence would've happened sooner. 10 years maybe?

It was hard to tell from reactions, but if the term "Yakuza" doesn't ring a bell, they're essentially a real life group of traditional Japanese crime syndicates (Yes, plural), obviously more local in Japan and are called by different names depending on the authority addressing them. As Mr. Compress explained, they were huge deal criminals as their crimes really held little boundaries, but the introduction of quirks and All Might made it hard for a criminal group who held traditional values to continue their crime spree. Relative to in real life, the Yakuza has been declining members thanks to the Japanese government making anti-gang laws. Hopefully this gives some background insight into Overhaul's faction as a whole, he's not just another evil guy, he's an evil guy running a business older than quirks itself.
31:21 that's not true I wanna keep this spoiler free for future seasons But i'm pretty sure allmight says to midorya something along the lines lf " if you had a quirk , your body would've exploded in a week " when he first transfered ofa So yeah , people with a quirk are NOT better candidates for ofa than a quirkless person
I have to say, I wanna know where Sir Nighteye, All Might’s former sidekick, got a tickle torture device. I need to know where he got it for... reasons...
Spoilers: The only thing I hate about this arc is that someone dies from a wound that Best Jeanist inexplicably survived in the season prior. The man was laying on the ground with a massive whole in his torso and lives but this character actually has something blocking some blood loss and still doesn't make it.

my favourite thing about magna is that she would never use her power on a trans person so that there's no chance of it coming up with the wrong gender. the character is around for a short time but had a big impact on the characters going forward
Isn't it interesting that of all the villains to choose from, the one that the writers chose to be taken out so quickly and unceremoniously, was the "trans" villain? What are they trying to say here?
@hkaayaakuu he IS supposed to be worse and incompetent compared to overhaul in this very moment so he can see what he's lacking , learn grow and become the monstrous figure that he is in later seasons and be able to get his revenge at the end of this arc
I really hate that they chose to kill off the trans character, a villain no less, to show off Overhaul and the stakes of the arc. I dont recall the series featuring any other trans characters, hero or villain, so it's not the best look. Also the transphobes in the comments can eat garbage. also , yeah as bad as it seems horikoshi ( the author) is neither a homophob nor a tranphob or anything like that , it's actually quite the opposite plus , let's be real , magne didn't have ANYTHING going on for her, so she was probably the best choice for character elimination

Bruh you wrote out an essay
@@MrBobcat1237 wrote an essay for every episode. It’s fun for me.
@@MrBobcat1237 He has for every episode. Get with it.
@@Kaempfdog And we appreciate it.
It is a good opening, and so is Overhaul ost
Togata is hands down my favorite character in this series. Best beast right there lol
Kellen Geoff as Overhaul is amazing! ❤👏🏾
Are they not gonna talk about how sir nighteye is torturing his own sidekick: bubble girl⁉️
I just thought "Oh I forgot about that leauge of villain girl". Probably because she was just killed.
I could never bring myself to like/care about Sir Nighteye after that tickle machine scene. Really wtf was that
Shigaraki is a petulant man child, but overhaul is absolutely terrifying. This arc is incredible, and I can’t wait to see what your thoughts on it are/
the Emo-Might pic sent me away 💀
YESSS SUCH A GOOD ARC HELL YEAAH
Completely changed my perception of the show
If you think about it, Sir Night Eye's precognitive abilities in combination with All Might would have been a potent mix.
Remember Mystique from the X-Men? In the comic books, the love of her life is a lady with similar powers. That is also a very potent combination of superpowers. He girlfriend identifies key moments in history, and Mystique uses her power to infiltrate whatever wherever and alter the course of future history.
Speaking of Overhaul, they should also check out "Way of the Househusband" anime
If you are referring to what I think you are referring to, that’s not really a retcon, it doesn’t contradict anything, just recontextualizes
I didn't really notice that connection, if anything I see it less of a challenging the position actively and more like characters that aren't the protagonist and antagonist but are more alike the predecessors. Is the retcon you're mentioning in the anime, or the manga?
@@mattmcgill1993 I get that but it was bad.
@@johndinner4418 It will come soon in anime.
@@kvng7723I disagree. It wasn't bad. Even if he did give it to Mirio, it would've worked, and he would've been the greatest hero ever. It's just that the consequence would've happened sooner. 10 years maybe?
Tickle machine on Bubble Girl was really a huge wtf moment for everyone.
Ohmygod I completely forgot about the tickle machine.👺
Well, I can’t wait for you guys to get to 11 through 13 because those are some intense episodes
as we enter one of the darker arcs of the series i just want to put this here so i don't have to repeat it ....
FCK OVERHAUL , ALL MY HOMIES HATE OVERHAUL
A man so awful, he makes you root for the League
We haven’t even seen the worst thing he’s done yet.
hes a W
@relic5752 i mean i already liked the lov because i found them intresting so i already knew where i was standing but this arc sure made me love them even more
Don't be like that. Kai chisaki is awesome❤

Shie Hassaikai means the 'Eight Precepts of Death' , it's funny that english didn't translate this, it's a pretty cool name :)
You have no idea how grateful I am you keep a counter for every single time something happens ❤❤
Overhaul is an Alchemist😂
Man, sure is a good thing Eri doesnt have a dog
emo might cracked me up
So i believe this episode has our first official death in the show or at least the first on screen death
31:21 that's not true
I wanna keep this spoiler free for future seasons
But i'm pretty sure allmight says to midorya something along the lines lf " if you had a quirk , your body would've exploded in a week " when he first transfered ofa
So yeah , people with a quirk are NOT better candidates for ofa than a quirkless person
if you ever consider to watch bungou stray dogs it would be so great, you would kill it with yours analysys
Ive seen 2 season
Waiting for the new chapter to see whats going on with tenko
I know what I'm doing tomorrow
Believe me you haven’t even seen half of overhauls power, your going to see how strong he really is and how much deku will struggle against him
i highly recommend the anime d.gray-man and d.gray-man hallow
I have to say, I wanna know where Sir Nighteye, All Might’s former sidekick, got a tickle torture device. I need to know where he got it for... reasons...
I still cannot get over the fact that Gabi and Nejire have the same VA
Seeing what allmight actually does, i can never believe yakuza n allmight ever crossed paths.
I need that hoodie❤
I love that Kenny thinks this is the best intro… CUS IT IS!!! But all my friends think it’s one of the worst 😢
Spoilers:
The only thing I hate about this arc is that someone dies from a wound that Best Jeanist inexplicably survived in the season prior. The man was laying on the ground with a massive whole in his torso and lives but this character actually has something blocking some blood loss and still doesn't make it.
If you guys like thinking anime may i suggest

its a real shame how this was the season where many people fell off of the series, myself included. the production issues that follow later on in the series also havent been doing anyone any favors. maybe with the upcoming season things will change (copium)

Hope everyone in the comments who are being transphobic towards Magne have the same energy for Tiger, 'cause otherwise y'all are hypocrites.
No we are not being tphobic , tiger is a good guy. Magne is a bad guy. Both guys with mustache, nothing tr@n5 in either guys
Jesus I forgot that tickling machine thing. It's so weird
Overhauls been the best villain so far. Shigarakis lame
Kenny, the heroes rising movie is best set between episodes 12 and 13 of seasons 5 cause it spoils stuff from the first arc
my favourite thing about magna is that she would never use her power on a trans person so that there's no chance of it coming up with the wrong gender. the character is around for a short time but had a big impact on the characters going forward
Rest In Peace Big Sis Magne. She was a gorgeous woman who died too soon 😞✊
Magne was a funny person
Isn't it interesting that of all the villains to choose from, the one that the writers chose to be taken out so quickly and unceremoniously, was the "trans" villain? What are they trying to say here?
idk. I dont think its that deep xd
13:48 why is Kaminari so weird, stop playing with Ojiro's tail. XD
everyone calling shigaraki lame and incompetent in the comments clearly missed the point but whatever you say i guess
Point?
@hkaayaakuu he IS supposed to be worse and incompetent compared to overhaul in this very moment so he can see what he's lacking , learn grow and become the monstrous figure that he is in later seasons and be able to get his revenge at the end of this arc
I really hate that they chose to kill off the trans character, a villain no less, to show off Overhaul and the stakes of the arc. I dont recall the series featuring any other trans characters, hero or villain, so it's not the best look.
Also the transphobes in the comments can eat garbage. This channel has been and always will be queer friendly.
Tiger is also canonically trans but its never mentioned outside of a character sheet thing from the manga
also yeah 😭 ppl being queerphobic even tho im pretty sure both kenny and montana are bi and have watched VERY queer shows in the past (like shera and the owl house) so i have to guess they're new/first time viewers
one thing i never expected to see in this chanel's comment section was homophobes and transphobes but here we are i guess 😂😂
also , yeah as bad as it seems horikoshi ( the author) is neither a homophob nor a tranphob or anything like that , it's actually quite the opposite
plus , let's be real , magne didn't have ANYTHING going on for her, so she was probably the best choice for character elimination
@@honeyfulhunter kenny and Montana, they are both what!😂 how can u assume anybody's orientation. Isnt that intolerant and uninclusive forcing identities on individuals.
@hkaayaakuu watch their first owl house reaction video, you'll be shocked by what you'll see in the first 50 seconds
Time for Kai Chisaki to show Why i like him way more than Tomura shigaraki
8:36 “we are free to decide for ourselves exactly where we belong”
I mean, Magne was right, he did have that choice. And he chose to belong in a Dixie cup lmao
Just an fyi: Magne is a trans woman and uses She/Her pronouns! Sadly the Dixie cup was an unfortunate side effect of her choice; a common consequence for many minorities for daring to exist (/lh.
