This episode showcases a big part of Shigaraki's development as a character. Back at the beginning of the series, he would've immediately tried to destroy whatever annoyed him. Especially if it was disrespectful. But here, he's calm for a while even after Overhaul disrespects him, isn't even the first person to jump into the mix, and is studying his opponent while preventing the rest of his team from attacking and unlike back at the beginning of the series, actually cares about those in the League. He's learning as a villain that sometimes waiting before striking is key. And that's what makes Shigaraki compelling.
They didn’t actually show the dad, it was just his mother mentioning that his dad’s quirk was breathing fire

@@Zaeyeager Yeah thats why I said that , we got too many SW references . AFO mask and outfit is inspired on Vader and there is ton of placed named like Star Wars Locations. Marvel and SW are Horikoshi's biggest inspirations.

Chisaki is one of my favorite characters/antagonist in there series. His powers are so dope. He made a very impactful entrance

The person who came up with Bubble Girl’s design was Abara Chiita, an individual who won a contest. The prize of said contest was getting their character in the manga. And this ep did get some backlash when it first came out, and left a lot of people with the same question: “WTF?”
Why'd the episode get backlash? I remember people saying that they weren't expecting the gore, but I don't remember anything reaching "backlash" sort of levels.

I feel like it was mostly towards western audience that it didn't land. I've been watching animes for a very long time and the tickle machine scene is the kind of weird humour Japanese people like to roll with. I also notice that in the west we see a lot of stuffs as sexual when it wasn't the original intent. So we should more keep in mind the cultural differences when we watch shows like these which aren't originally made for a western audience.
@@hikari9433 I disagree about it not being the original intent for 2 reasons.
1. I don't think it's a coincidence that of all the characters to be put in that situation, it was the one with her character design. This one's pretty self-explanatory.
2. Had the original intent not been sexual, I doubt that Midoriya's reaction when he entered the room would've been so extreme.
Overhaul’s voice actor is soooo good. Just the right mix of laid back and cool but crazy evil under the surface.
Kellen Goff does such a good job of voicing him in the dub too. When he gets mad, he gets MAD.

for reference Magna who got killed by Overhaul was a trans woman. born male now living as female and we should respect her sense of self. Tiger of the Wild, Wild Pussycats is trans male, born female now living as male and we should respect his wishes. Tiger got surgery, HRT, and counseling because he is a respected member of society. Big sis Magne did not get any help because she is an outcast and only gets support from other outsiders and crooks.

I know this was recorded a while ago, but while I don’t know what yakuza translates to, they are essentially the Japanese mafia. So Overhaul is essentially the leader of the remaining bits of the mafia after heroes have wiped out most of those organizations.

Whenever I hear/read Overhaul I can't help but think of Jim Carey in the mask going "IT'S TIME FOR AN OVERHAUL"
If memory serves me right, the name "Shie Hassaikai" translates to something like "Eight Cleansing Precepts of Death" (anyone feel free to correct me if I got that wrong). Bit of a mouthful for sure, but at least the name ties in with Overhaul's germaphobic nature, as well as the fact that his group wears plague masks. I'd go a bit further on the subject, but that would be inching towards spoiler territory, I think, so I'll just leave it at that, lol.
also, when we see the 8 enforcers of the gang, they are corruptions or inversions of the noble eight-fold path.
Yup that’s what it translates too. When I first heard that was the translation after the end of season 3 I knew they were going to mean business.

Even easier would be to just call him Kai but I think they only ever mention that being his first name like twice, so I guess they don't know.
Funfact but bubble girl's appearance/design comes from a fan who won a hero design contest for fans. so Horikoshi added her in.
Don't think the tie thing is to do with his dad not being around, think it only started after he bust up his hand at the sports festival, I think it's meant to show how his self-inflicted injuries are affecting his more delicate movements and dexterity.

I dont think of this episode often... But holy crap it has action, suspense, and weird funny shit! Just to clarify, the tickle machine wasn't a sexual thing. It was literally Nighteye trying to teach Bubblegirl to not be so serious. He just values humor that much.
Lol sure its all in good fun but they know full well what it can look like to a general audience. Certain characters and situations are clearly sexualized, at least from a Western point of view.

The Japanese people watching this show clearly understand there was nothing sexual about that scene. They actually get the joke for what it was instead of looking for reasons to get offended.

If it wasn’t obvious, Magne is a trans-woman so that’s why they use she/her pronouns and call her Big Sis Mag just an fyi. Very excited this is up there as one of my favorite arcs especially the ending because the animation is insane. Overhaul is brutal and I absolutely love his quirk. Oh the name of the Yakuza organization translates to Eight Precepts of Death which was really interesting when this was first being released in the manga and Mr. Compress can still use his quirk but now he’ll be using it with one arm.

They said Deku's dad has Fire Breathing Quirk, and Her mom as Telekinetic. If Midoriya had a quirk, he could have one of those, or a combination like Pyrokinesis.

As far as I know, Midoriya just doesn't know how to tie a tie properly.
