- I love Paul McGann's theme in the TV Movie. It's intense and epic... but far too short and split in two. So how about an extended edition with the opening and closing themes fused together. Hope you enjoy it!
Music by John Debney
They should just use one of the holiday specials and surprise us with a complete McGann episode using this original theme. It would blow minds.
I doubt any real doctor who fan would complain
Maybe an AI guest appearance by Peter Cushing!
@@dennisclifford617 Well if Lucasfilm can do it. . . . =)
@@jamiemerian9736 I'm sure the BBC can. It would be great. By the way, I'm an American, but a HUGE Who fan since my 20's and consider you guys great buds.
the new theme sounds most similar to this one so you can kinda count that as being back
This one has the most Spielberg feel of them all. Very magical and adventurous which really fits with Doctor Who. Also the 8th Doctor is my favorite for being so lovable, wholesome and charming. Somewhat like Christopher Reeve was with Superman in a way.
The movie theme might actually be my favourite version of the doctor who theme
This theme has the audacity and the sheer BALLS to start with the Middle 8, and you ERASE that glorious achievement like it’s nothing.
Either way it sounds AMAZING. This, alongside the seventh and eleventh doctors themes, is one of the best themes I've ever heard
One of my all time favourites. The middle 8 at the beginning seperates this from all the others and the orchestral sound of it makes it sound so triumphant. It suits the 8th doctor perfectly and is a great asset to the Doctor who theme collection
My thoughts exactly!
i juust realised..
the 8th doctors theme starts on the middle EIGHT
Well so does the Seventh Doctor's theme in fairness.
@@zufghit doesn't start on it but it contains it in the intro
I think the middle 8 represents all that is great and majestic of the universe, while the rest of the theme represents the despair and callousness that the universe could so easily kill you. Starting with the middle 8 is incredibly hopeful in my opinion.
I watched the TV Movie for the first time the other day and whilst not a huge fan, the music was incredible (especially this theme!!). Thanks for this!
@Dan Love Keqing an epic middle eight for Doctor Number 8 :D
The best one on that record player was actually just really good stock music,
Beautiful. They really nailed it. Big, bold, triumphant. A masterpiece. The return theme that Doctor Who deserved. 😭
It's like, some people really understood the assignment, poured their love into it, and IT SHOWS. Costumes, sets, music, and CASTING, all fantastic.
The proto-Murray Gold is strong in this one
This theme gives me chills every time I hear it
I’ve only seen the current Doctor Who show but I’ve been listening to the various older DW main themes and I think this one is my favorite.
It’s so good and magical

The Doctor Who movie changed everything for the Doctor Who franchise, I.E the time vortex and the Tardis’s interior design
Best theme for me. Has an epic quality befitting someone of the Doctor's age and abilities.
Completely bonkers movie, amazing theme song. i love the little piano bit omg... this fucking slaps
After Nutci Gatwa's time has ended I hope RTD gives Paul the chance to do a first tv series of the show. With RTD running, it is now possible. They brought Tennant back so what's to say that they can't bring back a classic Doctor back if a previous regen face like Tennant can return. If Paul does come back, I hope he returns with his classic style of clothes.
Same here 🤗
After they introduced bi-generation, they are definitely going to do a McGann spin-off - I’m calling it. It’s way too big a coincidence to consider RTD hasn’t at least considered it. He was the only Doctor on the Edge to be featured in his own costume. The Seventh Doctor made reference to him regenerating and sometimes not in Tales of the TARDIS, so bi-generated.
@@MuseBySecrecyfingers crossed 🤞
Fingers crossed 🤞
I love Paul McGann as the doctor, and the movie was pretty good
Shame McGann got only one appearance as the Doctor.
@@Goodiesfanful no, it’s not because of Big Finish and Night of the Doctor.
@@Goodiesfanful he's brilliant in the big finish audios and the 8th doctor is pretty good in the novels too
Not giving Paul McGann a full series was a real blunder by the BBC.
@@geoffberesford it was because RTD imagined 8 fighting in the time war and not the war doctor
Utterly brilliant! The best thing in the movie. Paul Megan notwithstanding.
this should have been a series! awesome!
Well it was in 1999 but with a different actor it’s called doctor and the cruse of fatal death
@@Y9ung_Ch0pNot quite. That was just for Children In Need :).
Thanks for this. Powerful.
Every time this video shows up in my recommended thing I watch it theme is just so good
Eight had the best TARDIS interior, hands down. Change my mind.
Eight had the largest, but you cannot deny that Twelve’s interior screams “YAS, QUEEN, YAS!”
@Jamestopboy Both have bookshelves. So what I'm getting here is that bookshelves = S Tier TARDIS interior!
You fixed it!!! Thank you!!!!
Instead of creating a new Doctor, the 8th Doctor should have been the "War Doctor"(in lieu of Eccleston, not being there) in the 50th Anniversary ep. I don't care what Moffat's excuses were either.
But still, John "i have been killed more times than Sean Bean" Hurt, as the doctor, AND MY GOD IT WORKS!
John hurt was fantastic as a doctor, but i do think giving paul a chance for the 50th besides a 8-9 minute minisode wouldve been better
I saw an interview where Moffat said that was his preference too but the BBC didn't think it was sufficiently "fireworks" enough for the 50th and preferred the idea of a new previously unknown and unheard of doctor.
I would've preferred McGann in there too, but that is quite a 'Whovian' perspective and I guess they have to think about the mass audience.
@@tufty1990Rule Number One: Moffat Lies. Repeatedly, on occasion, about the same thing.
I've read another interview with him where he claimed (somewhat bizarrely, IMO) that it was difficult/unfeasible to suggest that McGann's Doctor would be the one to take up arms to end the Time War. Considering some of the things he resorted to in the books, audios AND comics, this has never made sense to me.
Towards the end of the EDA Vampire Science, the 8th Doctor indicates that he's going to eschew the control - freak tendencies of his immediate predecessor and "wing it" from then on. How much more compelling and tragic would it have been, then, if, having taken his hand off the wheel, the Time War occurs on the Eighth Doctor's watch?
The original gameplan was to have Eccleston return and do a NuHu Three Doctors Redux. When this fell through, I think Moffat saw another opportunity to demonstrate how "clever" he was by shoehorning in a missing/repressed incarnation. Which might have been an interesting concept, if he'd stuck the landing. Instead we got, "Oh yeah, I *remember* that bloke, I just never acknowledge him", which was a pretty weak - sauce explanation, IMO.
Beautiful
Definitely one of my favourites. I prefer the screen used version were it starts with the middle eight. Sets it apart from all the others.
Yes,I watched this one years ago and yes 😊
Amazing! Fantastic! Brilliant!
You get extra points for liking sonic
Fantastic!
Absolutely love this!
If in the day of the Doctor 4th mentioned that himself would regenerate into some familiar faces again i would not mind bringing Paul McGann back giving him a series finally and continuing to expand a story with a familiar face that fans already know and love . Its a sure bet and a great chance for McGann to polish his Doctor further .
You’ve got two hearts
If there is ever another Doctor Who movie. They should use this
I love this theme!!!
How much gravitas do you want in this ? The Doctor : Yes this much 💯🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
This theme should be used for the 8th doctor big finish audio cd
Big Finish can't use this version because the music rights are owned by Universal, not the BBC. The best they could do was use an arrangement of the theme by Jamie Roberts for the Mary Shelley trilogy of Eighth Doctor audios that used the TV Movie theme as its basis.
Oh 0:44 the best time for nostalgia
It was good that the sonic screwdriver got to be seen in Doctor Who-The Movie (1996).
CLASSIC Oragicl 1996
This was the first time I was introduced into the universe of Dr Who, just wish Paul McGann had a few more adventures as the doctor
[first lines]
The Doctor: [voiceover] It was on the planet Skaro that my old enemy the Master was finally put on trial. They say he listened calmly as his list of evil crimes was read, and sentence passed. Then he made his last, and I thought, somewhat curious request. He demanded that I, the Doctor, a rival Time Lord, should take his remains back to our home planet, Gallifrey. It was a request they should never have granted...
Excellent
We need a Paul Mcgann Doctor Who spinoff!
Someone extend this to 1 hour
Its a shame so many people hated this film.
Was the end of the proper Dr Who continuity and the beginning of the "bad fanfic" continuities afterwards, but at least it had good music.
Looking for the version that was played to fans by Philip Segal a few months before the tv movie aired... it had slightly different timing... doesn't have the slow drum bangs at the start either...
I think the fact that you moved all the sections round has negatively impacted this theme. Part of the thing that makes this theme so Unique is that it starts with an implication of the Melody then goes into the middle 8. Having the melody be implied then going straight into it removes that feeling of tension waiting for that main melody after having a tiny slither of it given to you. There's also the fact that the arrangement and orchestration of the middle 8 means it can only really go in one place in the theme. Right at the beginning. This being because the middle 8 serves as part of the Intro for this arrangement, which means it's at a lower dynamic that the main melody is. Whilst having a sense of build to it moving into the main melody. Having it towards the end makes it feel really out of place as the dynamic drops and starts building for no apparent reason.
Over all I'd say this was a solid idea. But had you stuck to the basic structure of this version instead of rearranging it to fit the more standard "intro, Melody, middle 8, Melody, Outro" formula of Doctor Who themes then this would have been far better.
I agree.
I'm not reading all of this shit.
@@Metalffe It'll only take you like 30 seconds...

How do we get BBC and Disney+ to produce a eight part mini series with the 8th Doctor with the title 8?
Id rather they dont...
The bridge between the main theme and the middle eight could be better first time around. It just cuts mid-bar
There's this weird Pokémon lemotif. But that's just a coincidence
hate the middle 8 in this version, changes key entirely
Fantasti, although deriven from America's desprate attempt to restart the show
attempt? it worked! you realize how much this inspired the RTD era?

Pitch and speed is wrong.
They should bring the piano back for Ncuti Gatwa.
