  • In this video I replace a KV6 thermostat and then get bored and do the keyhole method. This is the final job to do on the free 75 so we’re finally there. The original plan was to restore it fully but alas I don’t have the time or money at the moment and I’m having a lot of trouble finding parts.
    After this video expect a few more to follow after my new announcement next week ;)

    Awesome work on the thermostat though. My R75 has done 70,000kms, and so far, no need to replace thermostat, but guessing the day will come.

    Very timely video for me, I'm about to do mine and was wondering about the 'keyhole' method. Looks loads more straightforward than pulling the entire inlet manifold off. Cheers!

    Good job! By the way, when I bought my first Citroën XM and Evasion I used to think that there couldn't be more idiotic schemes and design solutions than with PSA cars but when I bought my first Rover 75 CDT I had to reconsider my former beliefs. :D Sometimes I feel that BMW has taken revenge on British cars in a very tragic way. The placing of the thermostat in every Rover 75 is a shining example of this.

    On my How To guide I left the injectors and rail on. Straight piece is always okay, but the elbow almost always breaks in the block.

      I got lucky on that, I expected it to break and had to double take it when it didn’t

    Were there bolts on the back of the intake manifold? I couldn't tell from the video.

    • @comeinhandynow
      @comeinhandynow ปีที่แล้ว

      There are two bolts. In the video you can see that the attachment of these to the intake plenum has broken off on both, probably why it was so difficult to remove…

    what parts are you having trouble finding? For 20 year old cars, I've found no problem re parts availability - although I do have to ship them from the UK to Australia all the time.

      it's mainly replacement bumpers in the same colour in good condition.

      @@tomdrives Ah ok, yes, guess they're hard to find. can you get your existing ones repaired/painted?

    "No bother it's just water". If you like your head gaskets I'd get that sorted. It's also where all that lovely orange gunk is coming from inside your coolant. Get it flushed and filled with coolant buddy

      I was referring to the water going on the floor not the condition of the water.

    Tom, this is intended as constructive feedback..... Is there any way you can get someone else to hold the camera? It's so difficult to see the details of what you are doing when everything is done one-handed while the other hand waves the camera about. It makes me seasick! But more importantly, if you had a camera operator you could use both hands to show what you are doing, which would be so much better. At the moment you are skipping certain crucial steps (especially around the removal of the inlet manifold chamber) because you needed both hands and had nowhere to put the camera. And to be honest, putting the camera down on the engine and filming sideways almost never shows anything useful.
    Another option might be to mount the camera on a tripod or stand of some kind, looking down on what you are doing. Either option would be so much better than doing all the work one handed while you try (and fail) to hold the camera steady in the other.
    Like I say, this is feedback with the best of intentions. 😊

      Thanks Steve, unfortunately nobody to help me all the time. The newer videos are of a lot better quality. This was years ago when I was rebuilding brakes at the side of the road!
