The DB9 is my favorite Aston. The sheer amount of cornering grip and straight line speed makes it an incredible racing car that drivers could find no where else!
Although there seems to be little benefit in terms of power and torque, there must be an additional benefit to the efficiency that the rev range can climb through less restriction of the exhaust? Perhaps throttle response is improved too? Therefore there could be a greater improvement to acceleration than the rolling road would suggest? Also, can you do a remap, surely this is what they do at the factory to give significant increases of 50-70bhp when customers request it?
Great video. The BD9 makes the most perfect noise. I always like seeing how changes to a car impacts power and torque as it allows others to take away the learning using really data.
Please update your cost of ownership site!! At this point your calculation was last done half way through your ownership so I'd love to see new figures! Beautiful car, thank you so much for sharing all of this with us!
For some of the other guys on here upgrading the exhaust doesn’t give you much extra unless you do the manifolds as well as they are all very restrictive, when they upgrade the db9 they replace the manifolds...cat delete and use the DBS back box as there’s no better sound, there’s also a remap to bring everything together and the result is slightly more bhp than a stock DBS
If you put it into context though it’s not really! Let’s say 6000 dollars to have premium full exhaust, full flow manifolds manufactured in-house,new straight pipes and new dbs back box, new uprated cams fitted with warranty giving approx 80 to 100 bhp more instead of 30bhp. Remapped to ensure everything is correct .Some tuners will buy a Subaru or Mitsubishi and spend upwards of 20,000 on mods to get similar results
@@zepe70 - Bamford Rose in the UK does that and it just transforms the car. 450 WHP/530 BHP is easily obtainable for the 2003-2007 DB9 with the modifications Robert talks about. I've driven a stock car and a modified car and it's night and day. 0-100 mph is reduced by about 1.5 seconds and 0-125 mph is down by approx 3 seconds. Mid range is transformed as well. Substantial gains in performance.
Nice video..I am wondering though that with the time and money spent so far, are you really going to gain enough HP to tell the difference or would moving up to an 09 or later be the better option? Perhaps after your next mod you might see more of a benefit..keep up the great work.
I'd agree that if your goal isn't to go all the way to the ECU tune, then this isn't worth the effort unless its the change in sound you are after. To get the most out of the ECU tune, better breathing in and out will help, so I figured I'd do these two very simple changes to start with. If it can make 50 bhp more at the end, then its a nice jump up, close to DBS power. Stay tuned and thanks for watching!
Hi, first if all i have to say I'm loving the videos. I'm wondering why you haven't replaced the poor designed factory manifolds that can cause so much damage.
If you search for bamford rose there are some very good vids all Aston Martin. These guys are x race engineers look into there resumes! You do need to look at the db9 upgrade section where he explains about the cat delete and what you should do and NOT DO! please reference this as soon as possible! Aston DBS OWNER.... A the wheel horse power. The early DB9's like mine are 450 bhp stock on an Engine Dyno (removed from the car, on a test rig). All the drivetrain losses add up and you get much less at the rear wheels. That's why I started with a baseline test to see how much actually makes it to the road. Typically only about 85% makes it to the wheels. A Vantage will probably dyno at around 350 rwhp.
Hi, how do you do these deletes in CA, when you have constant emissions reviews before you re-register your car? It's been a few years since I last resided in CA though, so I may not know the new laws, if sny. You sound Canadian?
You should've probably bought a manual 2008 Aston Martin Vanquish, in my opinion it looks better and is better, although pretty much every modern Aston looks beautiful.
I presume you've heard of them but Bamford Rose in England can get substantial power gains at the wheels with the DB9. 450+ WHP for 2003-2007 cars. Just a quick note, it's not 382 BHP at 5,600 rpm but 382 WHP. You're looking at 15% power loss between the crank and the wheels so I suspect your car is approx 440 BHP which is very near the stock quoted BHP figure. Excellent for a 15 year old car.
Yes, I've looked into Bamford Rose a bit. If you stay tuned to the channel you are going to see an Interview I conducted with Mike from Bamford Rose in a few weeks. Performance upgrades will be one of the topics. Thanks for watching.
So lucky to own any Aston Martin. My DB9 makes me smile when I drive it.Nice work sir. 👍
Thanks very much. What year is your DB9?
@@Aston1936 2007.It's silver with black interior. Thanks for all the great advice and handy tips. 👍 👍
The best detailed dyno video I’ve seen. Thank you for sharing

True, however the cost is astronomical compared to this mod.

Thank you for doing before and after dyno runs!
The final Dyno run is still in the works. Won't be too much longer I hope until I post.
What program is he using to tune it ? those are actually good gains overall. also love the channel.
You spelled it wrong - EVEN MOAR POWER!!

Looking forward to the ecu tune only thing I've not done yet either.
The ECU tune won't be long. Already applied it to my car. Goes on the Dyno next week.
how does it smog in California with those deleted?
I’m highly considering adding one along with my Bentley

Thanks Robert. I'll work my way through the Bamford Rose vids. Watched a few tonight.
Question is has it made it more drivable and how has it affected fuel efficiency?
Good questions - I'll address in the final video with the ECU tune results. Fuel efficiency - funny. Bad to badder?
BHP the dyno chart says or your description you posted. Is it not meant to say WHP? My ‘06 Vantage is around 420 BHP.
