I was there.... and went drinking with the band afterwards (minus Mr Lydon, of course). Totally surreal night.

How good is Paul Cook? His snare is so heavy and dead that it makes it sound like every drum in the kit is a kick -- just one big, thick, non-stop assault for Matlock to rumble along with. What a rhythm section. It's hard to describe the importance of Jones, always among my favorite players. He was was a beacon back in the overblown, self-indulgent, dweedle-solo seventies. He took Mick Ronson's great, tight rhythm playing (and, rumor has it, gear stolen from Ronson himself) and simplified it further, until it was a nearly perfect expression of what this type of guitar playing needs to sound like in order to work. Add to this stew John's incredible, where-the-fuck-does-that-come-from caterwaul, tying it all together. I met John in 1980, for an autograph and a brief, inane conversation. Although I saw some PiL shows, I sat out this '97 tour, feeling that it ran counter to the Pistols' original ethos. Now, I see that I was being stupid. Who from the seventies has more of a right to cash in -- especially after they'd been ripped off and left for dead in '78 -- than these guys? And it turns out they could certainly still bring it.

damn fine concert.. considering they are on one hand is a pretty well concepted band with great gimmicks (even in this reunion concert they didnt try to hide the fact that they were looking after the money),, and on the other hand,, their advanceness in music, and their lyrics strength are undenyable..

Sid was not just a junkie McClaren said fans flocked to Sids side of the stage, he was a face, and without him the Pistols arguably would not have become this famous. The Pistols were not about musicianship, McClaren stated at one stage they were getting better, but he did not even care

they were always good and tight with glen Matlock when they got sid Steve Jones was pretty much playing everything and sid would plays some parts OK others he would fuck up and when you've got to carry a unpredictable play it affects the band, they were silly to get rid of glen, glen played on the album and wrote most of the songs with them so he is the right person and this proves it, if you don't believe me you can find them in 76 on so it goes with glen and its tight

This is bloody good!! In fact,it's so good that it almost seems at odds with what they were originally about.I hope that makes sense,it's in no way a criticism. The power in the music is very much still there,it's just more refined and you sense that the anger behind the songs has now faded. That's fair enough though,we all get older find a way to live in this life.....the seven ages of man and all that.Steve Jones is immense here and Glen Matlock and Paul Cook are as solid as granite!

I always said that the whole 70s "punk" scene was nothing but a scam, perpetrated on the the whole rock scene in the 70s by Malcolm McLaren. And people fell for it, hook line and sinker. Even the Ramones didn't consider themselves punk. They always said they were just a bubblegum rock band. Even there Ramones name came from Paul McCartney and the Beatles, who they admired more than anyone.
