How good is Paul Cook? His snare is so heavy and dead that it makes it sound like every drum in the kit is a kick -- just one big, thick, non-stop assault for Matlock to rumble along with. What a rhythm section. It's hard to describe the importance of Jones, always among my favorite players. He was was a beacon back in the overblown, self-indulgent, dweedle-solo seventies. He took Mick Ronson's great, tight rhythm playing (and, rumor has it, gear stolen from Ronson himself) and simplified it further, until it was a nearly perfect expression of what this type of guitar playing needs to sound like in order to work. Add to this stew John's incredible, where-the-fuck-does-that-come-from caterwaul, tying it all together. I met John in 1980, for an autograph and a brief, inane conversation. Although I saw some PiL shows, I sat out this '97 tour, feeling that it ran counter to the Pistols' original ethos. Now, I see that I was being stupid. Who from the seventies has more of a right to cash in -- especially after they'd been ripped off and left for dead in '78 -- than these guys? And it turns out they could certainly still bring it.

Sid was not just a junkie McClaren said fans flocked to Sids side of the stage, he was a face, and without him the Pistols arguably would not have become this famous. The Pistols were not about musicianship, McClaren stated at one stage they were getting better, but he did not even care
they were always good and tight with glen Matlock when they got sid Steve Jones was pretty much playing everything and sid would plays some parts OK others he would fuck up and when you've got to carry a unpredictable play it affects the band, they were silly to get rid of glen, glen played on the album and wrote most of the songs with them so he is the right person and this proves it, if you don't believe me you can find them in 76 on so it goes with glen and its tight
Do most you honestly believe that if Sid had survived to play this gig, he would still be up there with his hair slathered in Vaseline and talcum powder with "gimmie fix" carved on his chest? LOL! Whatever, people. . .
This is bloody good!! In fact,it's so good that it almost seems at odds with what they were originally about.I hope that makes sense,it's in no way a criticism. The power in the music is very much still there,it's just more refined and you sense that the anger behind the songs has now faded. That's fair enough though,we all get older find a way to live in this life.....the seven ages of man and all that.Steve Jones is immense here and Glen Matlock and Paul Cook are as solid as granite!
but people loved Sidney, he was a glorious disaster, a face, an image manipulated by McClaren, and eventually he could and did play bass reasonably well
have you seen "The Filth and the Fury"? John speaks highly of Sidney, he was a life time friend, John weeps over his death, and you thing Sid was a mere addict? Do not begrudge him the fame he deserves, you are sounding like a bloody moralist. There are many "addicts" who were and are incredibly talented, many far moreso than un-addicted people
He was an image... and rock world is sick of images. Artist? Where? He couldn't play, and these rockers' art is playing... but this is no art, it's rock, subgenre: punk. Straight to your head.
Fuckin Brilliant! apart from Johnnys clothes wtf. Im an old 50 punk with copd etc etc etc and this is my only real pleasure i have left!! Fuckin Brillian!!!!!!! Sid RIP...
Wow I guess everyone will be wearing that stupid outfit Jon has on in 2030 but man come on. Honestly he looked so cool in the pistols he was a fashion Icon . His hair leather pants with attachments and white shirt .Him and Sid .Sid with the ripped knee holes in his jeans dummies have been wearing that now for the past 15 years 20 years after he died. When glen looks cooler than Jon its time to retire .Jones as super cool as he really is just never had the hair the clothes the whole deal , but still probably the coolest of all them.
I really don't think i've heard or seen anything worse on all levels.....why couldn't they just leave it as it was?...oh yes money wasn't it?.....and pity the fools who gave it to them.
