Expat Chinese can be extremely rude, had a similar negative experience at a Chinese owned grocery store in Argentina. The Argentine staff were polite but the Chinese owners acted as if they hated their customers.
Dont give any rude person your business. Could be any ethnicity. Have ran into many rude people in my life. I just ignore them and move on. If they dont want my business, I can go spend my money elsewhere. Lots of options to be stuck somewhere.
I was just in Vientiane for a couple days and was shocked by how bad this issue is there. They are rude in my country too but just mildly as they are afraid to provoke a violent reaction. At the airport in Vientiane they would just push there way to the front of the lines. Just before the flight was boarding I went in the men’s room and they were all in there having a pre-flight cigarette…
It’s very unfortunate that a group of people behaving badly that it becomes the normal stereotype of all. I to have experienced rude Chines and even rude Lao locals in my travels. I have to overlook that because the majority of Laotian people are very welcoming and they show their hospitality…it’s evident in your video. Keep up the good work my friend. 🙏
I think it's the older Chinese who come from the countryside in China who are rude. It must come from the desperate conditions they lived through during the Mao era when there were so many famines that killed millions of Chinese people, si they feel like they have to push their way through the crowds all the time or they will starve. The young Chinese I worked with in San Francisco are very very nice people. They are very smart and eager to learn through my mentoring.
A Lao man played in a billiards tournament in China, and WON! made quite a sum of money. Later while driving home to Laos he pulled over for a disabled car blocking the road. As he exited the car he was set upon by 4 Chinese men. They beat the Laos man and told him not to return. If you are regularly in the company of the common denominator, you must be ready to become a common man of action.
One can see it clear that in Luang Namtha one side of the town is populated by Chinese and other one is populated by Laos folk. They all keep to themself.
@@davidmiller1627 Guess it happened in China near the Lao border. I Sihanoukville the Hugh Rang Rover with Chinese inside throw my dear friend of the bike. When police came they bribe them and they gave the 1000 dollars for hospital bill. As hr had interior bleeding his hospital bill was much more and he expired on death bad. 1000 dollars for human life. Yes they were good dressed, well English spoken and of course was not the driver negotiating The negotiator was the official from embassy. Try went away with manslaughter as they went through red light. Very sad and ambulance took him from Sihanoukville to Phnom Penh. After one week he died. That was a year before they arrived in big numbers and took Sihanoukville businesses over. The good Khmer Buddhist people don’t gamble, even the street wheeling type do not gamble.
This is one of the Chinese traditions. Most Chinese were taught at a young age to polite to the people they known. They were taught not to engage with strangers. This is to protect their privacy and avoid danger encounter. When they open up, they feel like they are naked and bad things are awaited to be happened. Just because you are ready to social and open, people don't know you need to welcome you into their life. Putting a smile on the face, does not mean it is safe behind closed door.
Been twice to Laos and found the people there very friendly. I Usually prefer the local stall beside the road as it original local food. Did saw some chinese from mainland here and there. Will be heading there again to see their Tet new year this coming January. Sometime it just misunderstanding as I found out those rude people turn into normal people once I speak to them in their language! My experience is only around Pakse and Salavan only. Never been to other part of Laos yet. Am trying to learn laos language before heading there again. Enjoy watching your video.
I'm sorry to hear about that experience. I've been living in China for 6 months and haven't encountered people like that. If they behaved that way here, they would quickly go out of business. I'm not saying that rude people don't exist here-rude people are everywhere in the world. I hope you don't encounter others like them.
The trouble with Laos is they borrowed big, mainly from China through the Belt and Road initiative. Some have accused China of carrying out debt-trap diplomacy by luring Laos into taking huge loans. Now they don't have the money to service those loans.
yeah, at least the Chinese built the infrastructure in Laos.Compare this to the plundering of resources by the French during their rule or the massive bombings of the country by the US during the Vietnam war.The West only brought mayhem and destruction to Laos.
Lao is not cheap anymore, inflation is out of control and the Chinese are adding to the inflation as well as not trying to make the Chinese currency replace the Kip, try using kip in the Chinese zone in northern Lao, they won't accept it

I was an expat in Singapore, have seen many horrible behaviors from Australian tourists treating local Singaporean like they were a subclass being. One time, I was at Bali for a conference and afterward decided to relax at the beach under the tiki hut, enjoying the ocean. However, 2 Australian couple came by and asked me if I can move to another spot since I was only one person and they prefer my spot as the tiki hut at my spot had better shade coverage for 2. I declined. And the Australian couple proceeded to call the resort service manager, the poor manager keep telling them tiki hut is first come first serve, But there is another area, with bigger tiki hut, but there will be service charge. They 2 couple just went off shouting at the manager how Indonesian just don't under what 'service and customer' mean. The rude Australians eventually left and out of curiosity I talked to the manager as why did they not just comp the Australians the 'service-charge' area, manager told me, that the 2 Australians did the same thing to another couple yesterday. Despicable Australians.

Mina started out very good on seatbelts but by my count she only had her seat belt on 1 out of 3 times and that is not a passing grade. 🙁I think that the border is probably closed overnight so the trucks start coming in the morning. Sad for the daughter/mother.

Good video Todd, thanks for posting. Sadly that kind of extremely rude behaviour is more and more common all over the world, and it's not just the Chinese, though they do see to be the most blatant. Some other nationalities are just as bad but in more subtle (sly) ways. Travel safely, and again thanks for sharing.
I gave the local police in vientiane a right whack on social media recently due to them singling me out on numerous occasions doing absolutely nothing wrong at all, they just seen me as an easy target, they held me until i paid their askes for, first time was 500k 2nd was only 100k due to me having my partner laos with me, the first time I was alone they pretended to not understand English so they did not have to answer my questions as to why they targeted me out of a whole group of local motorists doing the exact same thing, rightfully, until I paid them so I could just get outta there, then they magical spoke English! Such a great country sadly tarnished by dishonest police you could easily label as thieves!
You never stated what you did wrong. Many who live here will tell you the same thing.. if you've done nothing wrong they wave you on. No helmet? No license? Seatbelt? Whether they single you out or not they're still finable offenses.
@NowinLao I didn't do anything wrong, I was on a scooter, helmet, licence, everything legal, just driving with the traffic like usual, next minute they fly up beside me, 2 on their bike, cut me off and order me to follow them back to their boss in the booth on a corner, they played on the language barrier and pretended they didn't understand a word I was saying, until I paid, then it all changed! Literally done nothing wrong at all, they just seen an easy target and it was within the first couple of weeks of me getting to laos so I just wanted to get on my way, I. Education a lot more now on how to deal with the rotten ones, it's just a sad part of such a magic country
I guess it depends where ou live in Lao. I have lived near Pakxan for the last decade. I drive a scooter with no plates, and have never been stoped let alone fined. My point is not all Lao cops are like the onse in VT
@chrisperkins7331 yes I agree, I spend a lot of time on a bike there, rode to many towns on a crf250 never a problem, and also down south in pakse and surrounding areas also not a problem, it seems the only ones that are a problem are those in vientiane, I felt the need to warn other foreigners hence why I posted my experiences on social media, and as Todd touched on it in this video, the amount of bad feedback they must get on social media must be making a difference for the better 👍
Pass this on, in America we tax trucks heavily to pay for the damage on the roads. Looks like Lao needs to implement the tax there to fix those horrible roads 🎉 Have your wife go to the Lao government and raise some hell 😂😂😂❤

I live in udon Thani Thailand near the Vientiane border so can expect the trucks coming through in the near future as the train link will be coming this way.
Other than the small number of Chinese trucks that are coming as part of the GMS CBTA (Thai trucks will be crossing to China effective September 1) you won't be seeing many. Most goods will come by rail.
Last year in my trip to Luang Prabang I was incenced by the Chinese tourists taking pictures of the monks in their morning walk with their camaras and mobile phones right on the monks faces. That highspeed train white elephant was expensive in more ways than one.
I have been on that awful road from Phonsawan. It is full of lorries 🚛 heavyweights lorries and heavy traffic. As far as I know the lorries goes to Vietnam and down to Danang where there is a deep sea port. It is an import route

Chinese are handling more and more Laos and its people as a colony. I, myself, remarked how the chinese can be unpolite and rude towards Lao population. Peeing offently everywhere , for exemple 😮. Le gouvernement lao n'est qu'un jouet entre les mains du gouvernement chinois. Et ça empire tous les jours.
Had a physician friend who became so exited when China opened up for travel and was one of the first ones to take advantage of that. Sooo Excited! However, coming back he sang a different tune. The country was interesting, but found the Chinese to be the rudest people on Earth. I see that nothing changes when they live in other nearby countries!
I have heard that rich Chinese people can force Lao people to sell land. If Laos owners refuse, the Chinese millionaires can go to Lao government to get help to force Lao owners to sell land.
No not true. For start if you are not Lao you cant own land only rent. Also the local authoraties that I have come in contact with(in the 18 years I have lived in Lao) would not allow such land transactions to occure.

So agree. Witnessed very arrogant behaviour in Luang Prabang 😢
11:45 The clouds are beautiful!
Thanks for the video, Todd ❤
I was just in Vientiane for a couple days and was shocked by how bad this issue is there. They are rude in my country too but just mildly as they are afraid to provoke a violent reaction. At the airport in Vientiane they would just push there way to the front of the lines. Just before the flight was boarding I went in the men’s room and they were all in there having a pre-flight cigarette…
Rude people are everywhere 😮 just continue your journey & stay safe 🤗
Chinese are generally pretty rude. Zero manners
I will be in Laos again in November how are the roads from Vientiane to Luang Proband? was thinking about renting a car and driving to see more.
Take your time and you'll be fine. The mountain roads here are no good for being in a hurry 😉
We don’t like the mainlanders here in the States either.
What temperature is it there in Celsius?
The Lao and Chinese don’t mix, they don’t talk too each other.
Yes they were good dressed, well English spoken and of course was not the driver negotiating
The negotiator was the official from embassy.
Why not? Who’s the racist there? I thought Chinese only don’t mix with blacks
The Chinese is using your country get them out before too late they will steal copy an buy u out
This is one of the Chinese traditions.
There’s a reason why Lao people migrated out of china 🤷🏽♂️
For me Laotians are the most friendly and peaceful in Asia. Love from Vietnam
nice weather 🌧☔
I'm sorry to hear about that experience. I've been living in China for 6 months and haven't encountered people like that. If they behaved that way here, they would quickly go out of business. I'm not saying that rude people don't exist here-rude people are everywhere in the world. I hope you don't encounter others like them.
I lived in China for 6 years ,i loved it there being back two times this year,
The trouble with Laos is they borrowed big, mainly from China through the Belt and Road initiative.
Also daily Debt trapped by American bombies.
@@thinkingaloud5379 Also thousands of acres of land destroyed by the chemicals the US bombers used also in Vietnam
they are doing it to Cambodia, and other nations also.
@@ritmaha They are doing it all over asia.
Lao is not cheap anymore, inflation is out of control and the Chinese are adding to the inflation as well as not trying to make the Chinese currency replace the Kip, try using kip in the Chinese zone in northern Lao, they won't accept it
The Chinese always seem to overstay their welcome.
🤗🙏🏼!
Enjoyed it, thank you. Clever little girl, isn’t she 😂
Take care 🙏🏼
I have seen rude Chinese in Cambodia where they drink their cans of beer and throw them on the ground.
😂
actually everyone is doing that there. but i saw chinese spitting on the floor in a normal restaurant😂😂
China taking over Laos, Cambodia etc etc
Yes is bad invest and create jobs for the people ?😂
yet our people are struggling even more :(

I understand the anti-Chinese Westerners and you have your own view doesn’t mean people should agree with you.
@@larryhongkham694 Yet so so many do. Why do you think that is? Maybe because they do behave this way 🤔
Can you please tell me what the red identification was outside the restaurant that you mentioned. We are hoping to spend the better part of a month in Laos next year, and I don't want my holidays ruined by rude Chinese shop owners. Thank you 🙏
Love you brother! You and your family are amazing! You really have changed my eyes for truth and happiness! Please be safe in your travels! please don’t stop. Not all copyright free music is gold.. but this is better than most of the funky elevator music they use in videos these days 😉
We aren't all like that mate.lol
Indeed they were. We Australians are not all rude and entitled. Some of us are humble and kind.

You are an illegal illegitimate totalitarian regime, and your reputation around the world as you said is despicable. See you in the South China Sea.

👍👍good ! Yes agree about some rude Chinese people! I don’t like rude people either with no manners! Cheers mate 🍻
Mina started out very good on seatbelts but by my count she only had her seat belt on 1 out of 3 times and that is not a passing grade. 🙁I think that the border is probably closed overnight so the trucks start coming in the morning. Sad for the daughter/mother.
That was really sad about the three women. I hope this youngest did not wind up in the Special Economic Zone in Laos at the Triangle. You are correct about the Chinese Todd. I won't elaborate
Todd. Where's the troopy bud.. safe travels and yes. They are the same in the Philippines, Bali and soon to see how they are in Vietnam.. thought of trying Laos and Cambodia but only have a month for our 21st anniversary... Hope you, nee nee and the princess have a great journey. Don't get to watch much TH-cam at the moment..
This is Episode 4 of a short series.. I explain in E1 why we're not in the Troopy 😉👍
@@NowinLao will have a look shortly.. cheers buddy and stay safe in your journey
What are all these trucks carrying?is it rebar?
@@aussiegoldtrolls Thanks for the clarification
The country no longer belongs to the Lao people no more.
You just noticed? Enjoy your trip
Pass this on, in America we tax trucks heavily to pay for the damage on the roads. Looks like Lao needs to implement the tax there to fix those horrible roads 🎉 Have your wife go to the Lao government and raise some hell 😂😂😂❤
That's why some people do not like to stayed in Chinese own hotel and they're rude everywhere they go..
When I visited Laos, I totally stay away from chinese own properties.
I'm a Lao-American and my family visits back home alot. The Chinese are exploiting Lao and the Government is allowing it.

Your aussie bantering is awsome. I feel I can relate to you as an aussie/lao guy. Its hard when you're in Australia and you're a Lao person, but in Lao you are an Australian. Keep up the eye opening works you're doing. I don't know how you keep from NOT swearing in your videos lol.
Hello sir how can i get 2 or more years visa....?? M from India.

With all The US propaganda against China , Why would a Chinese give a western the time of day,
I have heard that rich Chinese people can force Lao people to sell land.
