In this video you'll see Andy James playing a Kirk Hammett style guitar solo with licks from the Kick Hammett Quick Licks course. Kirk Hammett is the lead guitarist of Metallica and is known as one of the most influential metal guitar players of all time.
His style is rooted more in traditional rock and blues playing rather than all out shredding and as such he brings a lot of classic elements to his solos.

Need More Wah!
Anyone who doesn't think that lick is 100% Kirk Hammett, obviously hasn't payed that much attention to Metallica over the years. That whole lick is a culmination of all Kirks tricks taken from different solos and thrown into one big free for all. Awesome job Andy. Just bought the DVD, and can't wait to GIVER!!!
i would love to see kirk play this in a guitar solo, it would be epic
People say that Kirk is sloppy etc. Sorry guys, but you have to calculate the fact, that you see Hammett doing live solos. And when you play live, you don't always manage to do the perfect solo, you have to improvise, cause the show must go on. I bet, that in a studio, after a proper warm-up, with more takes to go, you'd be still impressed by Kirk. Just sayin' :)
I played guitar for half my life, and Shaun I've been saying that same thing for decades. (First: much respect to Andy James in the video here -- great job playing in the Hammet style), but Hammet guitar solos are merely fingering warm-up exercises (licks) strung one after the other. Glad to see someone else sees it as well.
Kirk is a genius.
Disposable Heroes, One, Frayed Ends of Sanity, Fight Fire with Fire, Struggle Within, Fade to Black, No Remorse to name a few.
Man, Andy does such a great job breaking down and imitating the playing styles of the world's leading guitar players. I love watching these demonstrations.

Kirk Hammett is an amazing player, over-rated, yes, sloppy, yes, but he's still a pretty good musician. He mixes speed with melody and does a pretty good job at it, the solo from One proves that.

@MrJam1858 The licks on this dvd are inspired by Kirk Hammett written by Andy James. He takes small elements of Kirk Hammett added with his own licks to give you this great solo. The good thing about it is you could mix up the sections on the dvd and find lots of solos within this one, all in the Style of Kirk Hammett. Hope that helps.

@DevilKingx01 Hi there, this isnt from any particular song. Quick Licks DVDs are aimed at teaching you licks in the style of your chosen artist and by teaching you those licks you will learn the techniques aswell to help you with your own playing. Hope that helps.

Kirk was probably my biggest influence for even wanting to learn how to play the guitar. And even I know that he'd have a lil trouble playing some of this. Andy James is the shit.

Terrific.
he does do occasional sweeps. the easiest example is the beginning of the solo from Leper Messiah, and i think there is a little section in the solo of creeping death where there is sweeps for 2 seconds

Its a pentatonic scale mixed with a natural minor scale, thiers also some arpeggios mixed in too

Im really gonna buy this lesson! Im looking forward to it. I love playing guitar, but I am struggling with the "Sound" of my guitar. When I play everything sounds wrong, even though im playing it right. Im looking forward to learn some Kirk Hammett style. He is a awesome guitarist. Great playing, keep it going! :D

@Nikqogregg In the Creeping Death and Leper Messiah solos, Kirk actually does do small sweep sections.

@CrackEriq I'm not for sure, but I'm guessing those notes are from the E blues scale. It's basically an extension of the basic minor pentatonic, and I know Kirk Hammet likes to use those quite a bit.

i wish you could teach me guitar andy you are up there with jeff loomis in my opinion and i am very inspired by you i own your self titled solo album and i cant quit listening to it
I think that kirk knows quite much about music especially from blues which can be quite easily heard of his solos. Hammett has lost quite much his technique but it doesn't mean that he would be "noob" as you said cause everyone knows that he isn't. His solos isn't quite versatile but he really knows what he is playing. I think also that it's not coincidence that Kirk is well known guitarist in the world. Andy James has only the technique and anything else.
