This is a great Steve Vai style example here - some great use of Lydian.
Andy James is quickly becoming one of my favorite guitarists. Just amazing!
Andy is one of the smoothest players I've seen!
They certainly are, this solo is composed of a collection of licks (though without being in the office, I can't check how many) and Andy teaches every single one of them in detail, when you have your 30(?) licks you'll be able to sound like Steve in your own solos for sure!

Probably the best performance I've seen from Andy...he's got such amazing chops and just nails Vai's sound. - Out of all his instructional videos...I think he cops Steve's techniques and style the best.

This is a phenomenal composition.
Usally I'm against copying other people step by step. But after a few years I've become an intermediate guitarplayer by learning blues and jazz scales, minor, major, 7th etc.. Now I need some inspiration for my lydian solos, pentatonic solos and jazz solos. I think I'm buying this just to expand my inspiration within what I already know the basic of. Thanks

@irvingsierratt Hi Andy isn't playing any particular song he is just playing in the style of Steve Vai. This DVD teaches you quick licks in the style of Steve Vai so you can learn lots of licks and play them together as Andy is doing in this performance or make your own performance with those licks. Hope that helps!
@Maidanic Hi there, yep thats right its not a steve vai song at all. Andy is just playig a series of licks in the style of Steve Vai. On the Dvd he breaks all of this down and show your how to play the solo note for note, meaning you can take the licks he teaches and swap them round making your own solos.

this blows my mind every time i listen to this..e lydian is such a beautiful mode and andy james is an amazing guitarist.
@AdamHaga He is using his right hand as a string dampener. You can do the same thing with a rag, or a hair band, or your right hand as featured in Vai's tender surrender video. Also used in Satch's Mystical Potatoe song when he hammers (instead of sweep picks) the 6 string arpeggios to keep them from ringing as he switches strings (if they are sweeped you use your right hand obviously)

Andy shows you a total of 32 licks. These are short licks 'Quick Licks' all of what is in performance above and more.he show you note for note telling you where to place you fingers and how to play the notes.The DVD then has the entire performance with all of what andy has shown you strung together. These little licks could be linked up to create your own performance pieces. Hope that helps?

When it comes to tone, he's using a DiMarzio liquifire/crunch lab set(John Petrucci's signature set), I have a set in my Schecter and they sound amazing.

Nice one! i just received the DVD and the lessons are pretty good and educative, this his a great tool for expanding my soloing techniques specially for a non professional musician but rather an amateur shredder. The best one is that these aren't soulless scales and lessons but they are a very deep melodic piece "feeling shred" =). Licklibrary and Andy James roolz! cheers from chile
