    It was blind luck that I managed to find one of those NES to Famicom adapters that used to be sold on Amazon on Ebay. I just kept looking and looking, and then POOF, a guy was selling 2 of them in Brazil. They are very hard to find, otherwise I was going to have to do this. I think the interest might be there to buy these. I'm on a couple of Famicom facebook communities that are always looking for these. I use the 8bitdo wireless receiver paired to a Famicom Switch joycon because you know....authenticity lol. The Famicom controller paires flawlessly to the wireless receiver, with no noticeable lag that I can tell. Compatibility with the peripheral input on both Sharp Twin and OG Famicom have been 100 percent with all the games that I have tried. When I originally obtained the Famicoms, the first thing I had to overcome was the short cable length of the controllers. Indeed they were made for 80s Japanese households. I first learned all about the Famicom and Sharp Twin from the Riggs and Metal Jesus tag team episode, and thought "I want that!" lol. If anyone is thinking about collecting for Famicom DO IT! You will not be disappointed. I love inserting the quick disk and hearing all of the clicks and clanks it makes while loading.

    These kinds of mods that there aren't tons of videos for already are awesome. Definitely keep using them for content when you make them.

      Thanks so much for the kind words. This is the type of thing that, I KNOW won't get much traffic, but I'm doing it for me and documenting along the way.

    That's really cool! I always assumed the port on the front was strictly a P2 equivalent for the gun. If I ever get a Famicom or Twin system, I'll definitely rig up one of these.

    I like my wireless controllers for my 4.3" HDMI Famicom handheld but I really want to use my NES/SNES online controllers. It's a 9 pin controller setup so I need to find my old Mayflash adapter I got with an adapter for the PC. Then I can use my 8bitdo adapter. The hunt begins.

    If you use the same method but with a db15 port hooked then to a db9 genesis controller port you can use a 8bitdo 2.4 ghz genesis reciever and pair it with a 8bitdo nes 2.4ghz controller or the 8bitdo pc engine 2.4ghz controller for turbo controls

    • @RoXolid
      @RoXolid  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      But... Why? Why use a Genesis controller when there are NES wireless options?

    • @vinodtewari951
      @vinodtewari951 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@RoXolid it allows you to hook up a 2.4 ghz TG16 wireless game pad from 8bitdo which has turbo function the same one that might actually work with the retron sq. The M30 8bitdo 2.4ghz wireless dongle is compatible with all the other 8bitdo 2.4ghz controllers so you can actually exchange them round.

    • @RoXolid
      @RoXolid  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If I want turbo I can use the NES Advantage or NES Max. I try to avoid 8bitdo unless there are no other options.

    • @vinodtewari951
      @vinodtewari951 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@RoXolid I just watched your review on the TG16 I agree the controllers are flawed at times but my set up means that I need wireless or Bluetooth as I can’t afford my kids tripping over my cords and killing my consoles in the living room. These hacks and wireless controllers are a god send. Thanks for the cool hack. I will see if maybe I can internalise the hack in my twin famicom. Those wired turbo controllers for the NES are silly prices here in the UK. I use the TG16 as a wireless sega master system controller as well. It does the job. :-)

    I've got a broken NES controller that I bought I plan to stick a 8bitdo wireless board in. I think there's something wrong with the chip in it. Would I be able to solder a NES cord onto a famicom controller and expect it work?

    Alright, someone needs to come out with an adapter! The cable length is also why I don't play famicom as much

    • @RoXolid
      @RoXolid  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There used to be one, but I don't think demand was enough to keep up with production which is why they don't exist anymore. Like I mentioned, I can build them one off but I'm not looking to get into mass production

    • @RoXolid

      There's are adapters to let you use US controllers on a Japanese system, you could probably do the reverse I've just not seen it myself

  • @jeffbrl
    @jeffbrl 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Great video. You earned my subscription. The link you cited warns the reader that a standard 15 pin D Sub connector will fit but won't reach the pins. He mentions "reversing" the connector. I'm not sure if this just means you need a female connector. Will any 15 pin D Sub female connector work?

    • @RoXolid
      @RoXolid  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for the sub! You need to get a 2-row 15-pin connector, as there are also 3 row 15 pin D-Pin connectors.
      Reversing the connector just means the pins exit where you would normally insert them.

    • @jeffbrl
      @jeffbrl 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for your reply. The 2 row DB15 connector I bought from Aliexpress is not deep enough to reach the pins on the Famicom. If anyone knows a part that works, please share the link.

    • @RoXolid
      @RoXolid  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      None are directly deep enough, that's why you turn the connector around, That gets you the depth you need

    • @jeffbrl
      @jeffbrl 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks, Gary. After watching your video again, I see my issue. Your part looks like a DB15 male to male gender changer. The one I bought is male DB15 on one side but has pins for soldering on the back. I'm going to order a two row DB15 male to male gender changer.

    • @RoXolid
      @RoXolid  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@jeffbrl OHHHHHHHHHH, no, it's not a gender changer or coupler, it's a crimp-style connector with a push-pin setup. Yeah, here's what I ordered:

      Console5 sells a Neogeo controller extension cable and a nes extension cable. You can use that to build the same thing.
      I recently built the opposite cable. Famicom extension port to NES. Allows me to use my Japanese Famicom Hori commander on an NES. I used a regular DB15 port from electronics store instead of the Neogeo extension cable. Great easy soldering project.

    My solution so far was to buy an expensive SSS Joycar HudsonSoft controller which doesn't even work the turbi buttons 😒 but everything else works just fine, so i can play from my couch with a really long cable, but a wireless option is way better solution. I was hoping there was a way to use the oficial famicom joycons on my famicom with an adapter like that one!
