It’s not known why Shima disappeared. She was overwhelmed, but it’s not always hate that causes that. She was grateful for the positive attention and even the Rule 34. The whole group’s gone as far as to actively condone R34. She could’ve just been in that position where someone realises it’s scary having thousands of eyes on you.

10/10 video about a guy slowly deteriorating while rambling on about this series he's had an unhealthy obsession with and coming to terms with the fact that he can never escape a mysterious pink cat that has been shattered across time and space.
It's not about Shima. It never was about Shima. It's about the ERA that Shima was in. The reason people look so fondly on the Shima episodes is because it's when the show was at its peak. The artstyle was great and consistent, it was the begining of a genre, top 10s were relevent, there was only two hosts (Shima and Dolan.) Now, the reason the whole Shima Prime thing feels off is, well, everything surronding it is different. The artstyle is, imo, not very good, VA is different, people grew up and got bored of the genre, and finally, people are sick of having to get attached to new characters all the time and then see them vanish. You can't relive the past.

From what is being said, this one is going to be "Shima Prime", and they are still keeping her over all but retired(mostly design-wise). The new girl sounds fine, and even has a similar tone, so I can't wait to see how she does.

in an era where most non-shitpost videos are highly structured and formulaic, it’s refreshing to listen to you just talk and jump from one thing to another without a clear order or point most of the time.
definitely felt that about having watched so many of the reddit stories videos as a kid that i can still remember specific stories, i love going back down the planet dolan memory lane with you
them bringing back shima would have been so much better if she was just voiced by Hellbent. They could honestly make the voice change apart of the lore by saying that hellbent possessed her body plus if they ever get shimas actual voice actor back they could just have shima suddenly wake up and pretend that nothing happened.
I've got such fond memories of producing & performing (much of) the music for the kids song parodies & original songs for SPD. I'm so thankful I got to be a part of it. Its amazing to see people still discussing what he started way back then. I think Dolan and I both have had a few beatings, but I'm glad to see he's still standing and creating and ambitious. Took me some time but I am too! Best possible boss to have - so much creative freedom. If SPD had a thriving Patreon to help it through the ad-pocalypse, it probably never would have slowed down. I made at least two other songs, fully finished, that were meant to be animated back at the start of 2017 - alas, twasn't meant to be. But Dolan made sure I was pai still - again, great boss. They're on Bandcamp if anyone cares.
Planet Dolan characters were nothing more than avatars for the voice actors and cartoon characters to be used in visual gags. Artists used their own OCs on the show, and the characters are used interchangeably in various gags and scenarios. This way of using characters associates them with the overall Dolan brand and the people behind them, which is great, it's one of the elements that makes Dolan so special. The problem is, it goes against the idea of them being characters in an ongoing narrative. A story needs to have an internally consistent world with characters consistent with that world and themselves. The Dolan cast did not have this. Their thoughts and actions were consistent only to the gag they were taking part in. This means for 'Planet Dolan with plot' to work, they needed to build the world and concrete characters on some shaky foundation, and I don't think they've been doing too well at this. My main problem is with Dolan and his inconsistent characterization. Dolan is naive enough to not understand the obvious manipulation of Darlink, take the Brain Juice apparently without push back, fail to notice Melissa's attempts at contact, and go along with Darlink's flimsy dismissals of important clues in the search for his friends (his brother's book and Nixxiom's recorder). And yet, he is, at the same time, still smart enough to be suspicious of her and make actually insightful observations (such as the inconsistency with Nixxiom's coffin). If he's suspicious of her, why is he not suspicious of the very suspicious things she does? Why does he not push back? Is he supposed to be helplessly naive or not? This portrayal makes him feel less like a person existing in the world and more like a plot device that does whatever the writer needs him to do. Darlink also irks me. How strict is she with Dolan really? She apparently locks him indoors for days, and then just lets him out for no reason. She clearly does not want him to find out what happened to his friends, and you can interpret her tolerance of his investigation as manipulation, but why is she not at all concerned with him meeting up with Grgak or the keycard? Shouldn't she be scared those clues might lead somewhere? I hope it all makes sense in the end. She has the potential to be a great character. The world seems to just be real life with extra wacky elements, and the characters are probably on the same level as normal people, which I suppose is a pretty established way to do things. Still, they could have done a better job easing our transition from the contextless void of season 1 to this. Maybe a separate episode showing a day in Dolan's life with Darlink. That would be able to elaborate on both the world and the characters. This is way too long for a TH-cam comment, but there are few other places for a post like this. The Dolan cast is genuinely charismatic and can definitely do great things in a proper story. The above are merely my idle worries; there's no telling what they'll do next. I really do hope they succeed. Prison guard Darlink has already done wonderful things for me, I need to see more of her. And seeing more of Cooki couldn't hurt as well.

I used to binge the hell out of Danger Dolan back in middle school and even stuck around for his Planet Dolan rebrand and Super Planet Dolan project in high school. They were absolutely killing it in views at first; impressive, actually. I eventually grew tired of them due to the constant influx of new characters. Like, I was perfectly okay with just Dolan and Shima and occasionally Doopie and Melissa. I also believe that the jokes Dolan made were getting dragged out and stale, and so I jumped ship around 2016-17 (senior year of high school). I'm actually still impressed Dolan is still going. Good for him.
I remember I loved the SPD content since the early Shima days up to way into a period where Doopie seemed like the main co-host. 3 things happened for me: ---- 1 ) My dumb younger self believed the reddit stories at first were puzzling up a consistent lore of sorts, and after a while, some things just could not fit together with older stories so the engagement of tunning into them was reduced to me liking the art and the characters narrating, and that's still good but less than what it was. ---- 2 ) After Shima, I thought I was keeping track with all the characters that were coming into the project but at some point it was enough of them that it felt like they made up new ones on the fly that didn't necessarily correspond to anybody worth remembering. Like stuff that'd just appear as the MC of 1 story narrated by somebody else and never be voiced or show up again. ---- 3 ) TH-cam stopped showing them to me, so even if I wanted to keep up, I was bird brained and forgot to check when I got distracted by other channels. Even now I'm sorta catching up but I still have to manually search Dolan's content to do so every time. ---- I still like them and wish the channel prosperity. For Gooby's art streams to have more audience. For Doopie to be doing better than last time I looked her up on Twitter. For Dolan to find a way to keep things good and fresh and economically stable. I remember at some point I was like "I wish I knew how to animate so I could reach out and help". Though tbh, this current plot is not my favorite thing. I don't like too many random new characters popping in and out of existence but I also don't like the opposite of that where not even the other regulars show up. Melissa being my favorite girl of SPD's channels, this sounds a bit harsh but it kinda gives me flashbacks to the last season of Fairly Odd Parents when they couldn't get most of their cast on screen anymore. A project like this is still a monumental praise deserving feat though. IDK if the other characters had channels prior or had their characters born from SPD but nowadays any of their appearances is technically a cameo. PD: I enjoyed Hellbent's early streams of him playing Among Us, but I can't find them no more. What's up with that? xD

I just rewatched the entire show after not seeing it in years and… Honestly? I still love it! it’s taken some turns, sure, but i feel like it’s the same lovable show. I still see the passion in the recent stuff. As someone who loves creating stories and character arcs in my head and has an unhealthy obsession with them, I can tell you story crafting doesn’t mean he’s scrambling for ideas, it just means it’s something that he enjoys doing. He tried to make a whole show, of course he likes writing stories! I trust Dolan with this. I want to see where the story goes!
The whole naming scheme of Danger Dolan, Planet Dolan, and Super Planet Dolan reminds me of The Salty Spitoon, Weenie Hut Jr.’s and Super Weenie Hut Jr.’s Also, I used to be a Danger Dolan fan when I was younger, but I could never get into Planet Dolan. Something about most TH-cam animators just does not click with me. Doopie and Darlink are kinda cute though, I guess lol
people who watched super planet dolan when it first began may or may not have been familiar with the dolan character prior to the animations but shima was literally dolan's other half and without her, his character had practically lost its purpose so fans that remember the show would no longer see it the way the remembered it. the new cast was great but shima was THE backbone.

I remember back when there was no such thing as Planet Dolan and the channel was called Danger Dolan and he was largely a WoW youtuber. He even appeared as a guest VA in a couple machinimas. I remember watching some of his spooky top 10s when I was much younger, about 10 years ago. Dolan used to be quite critical of Blizzard in the past, and games in general. Idk why he never decided to become a game critic, he totally could've done it. Time sure flew.

In the past 4 years, the 3 most popular videos on SPD and PD were all videos with Shima in the title. Goes to show just how dependent the show was on her not to mention that shima only actually was on PD for 10 months and hasnt been for 7 years

This means for 'Planet Dolan with plot' to work, they needed to build the world and concrete characters on some shaky foundation, and I don't think they've been doing too well at this.
My main problem is with Dolan and his inconsistent characterization. Dolan is naive enough to not understand the obvious manipulation of Darlink, take the Brain Juice apparently without push back, fail to notice Melissa's attempts at contact, and go along with Darlink's flimsy dismissals of important clues in the search for his friends (his brother's book and Nixxiom's recorder). And yet, he is, at the same time, still smart enough to be suspicious of her and make actually insightful observations (such as the inconsistency with Nixxiom's coffin). If he's suspicious of her, why is he not suspicious of the very suspicious things she does? Why does he not push back? Is he supposed to be helplessly naive or not? This portrayal makes him feel less like a person existing in the world and more like a plot device that does whatever the writer needs him to do.
Darlink also irks me. How strict is she with Dolan really? She apparently locks him indoors for days, and then just lets him out for no reason. She clearly does not want him to find out what happened to his friends, and you can interpret her tolerance of his investigation as manipulation, but why is she not at all concerned with him meeting up with Grgak or the keycard? Shouldn't she be scared those clues might lead somewhere? I hope it all makes sense in the end. She has the potential to be a great character.
The world seems to just be real life with extra wacky elements, and the characters are probably on the same level as normal people, which I suppose is a pretty established way to do things. Still, they could have done a better job easing our transition from the contextless void of season 1 to this. Maybe a separate episode showing a day in Dolan's life with Darlink. That would be able to elaborate on both the world and the characters.
This is way too long for a TH-cam comment, but there are few other places for a post like this. The Dolan cast is genuinely charismatic and can definitely do great things in a proper story. The above are merely my idle worries; there's no telling what they'll do next. I really do hope they succeed. Prison guard Darlink has already done wonderful things for me, I need to see more of her. And seeing more of Cooki couldn't hurt as well.

I used to binge the hell out of Danger Dolan back in middle school and even stuck around for his Planet Dolan rebrand and Super Planet Dolan project in high school. They were absolutely killing it in views at first; impressive, actually. I eventually grew tired of them due to the constant influx of new characters. Like, I was perfectly okay with just Dolan and Shima and occasionally Doopie and Melissa. I also believe that the jokes Dolan made were getting dragged out and stale, and so I jumped ship around 2016-17 (senior year of high school). I'm actually still impressed Dolan is still going. Good for him.
I remember I loved the SPD content since the early Shima days up to way into a period where Doopie seemed like the main co-host. 3 things happened for me:

1 ) My dumb younger self believed the reddit stories at first were puzzling up a consistent lore of sorts, and after a while, some things just could not fit together with older stories so the engagement of tunning into them was reduced to me liking the art and the characters narrating, and that's still good but less than what it was.
----
2 ) After Shima, I thought I was keeping track with all the characters that were coming into the project but at some point it was enough of them that it felt like they made up new ones on the fly that didn't necessarily correspond to anybody worth remembering. Like stuff that'd just appear as the MC of 1 story narrated by somebody else and never be voiced or show up again.
----
3 ) TH-cam stopped showing them to me, so even if I wanted to keep up, I was bird brained and forgot to check when I got distracted by other channels. Even now I'm sorta catching up but I still have to manually search Dolan's content to do so every time.

I still like them and wish the channel prosperity. For Gooby's art streams to have more audience. For Doopie to be doing better than last time I looked her up on Twitter. For Dolan to find a way to keep things good and fresh and economically stable. I remember at some point I was like "I wish I knew how to animate so I could reach out and help".
Though tbh, this current plot is not my favorite thing. I don't like too many random new characters popping in and out of existence but I also don't like the opposite of that where not even the other regulars show up. Melissa being my favorite girl of SPD's channels, this sounds a bit harsh but it kinda gives me flashbacks to the last season of Fairly Odd Parents when they couldn't get most of their cast on screen anymore. A project like this is still a monumental praise deserving feat though. IDK if the other characters had channels prior or had their characters born from SPD but nowadays any of their appearances is technically a cameo.
PD: I enjoyed Hellbent's early streams of him playing Among Us, but I can't find them no more. What's up with that? xD

I just rewatched the entire show after not seeing it in years and… Honestly? I still love it! it’s taken some turns, sure, but i feel like it’s the same lovable show. I still see the passion in the recent stuff. As someone who loves creating stories and character arcs in my head and has an unhealthy obsession with them, I can tell you story crafting doesn’t mean he’s scrambling for ideas, it just means it’s something that he enjoys doing. He tried to make a whole show, of course he likes writing stories! I trust Dolan with this. I want to see where the story goes!

I remember back when there was no such thing as Planet Dolan and the channel was called Danger Dolan and he was largely a WoW youtuber. He even appeared as a guest VA in a couple machinimas. I remember watching some of his spooky top 10s when I was much younger, about 10 years ago. Dolan used to be quite critical of Blizzard in the past, and games in general. Idk why he never decided to become a game critic, he totally could've done it.
