I love how you teach and explain what you’re doing and why! You are very thorough and it’s easy to understand what you’re saying. This is beautiful and love all the beautiful colors you use! 😊 I sure appreciate your explanations of what you’re doing and why! Thanks so much! Anna! 💕
Can I just say, I was playing your video as I was working on another study, of the SAME face...playing with color saturation, temperature...being a curiously devoted artist to better understand my creations. ..I've been in a slump. Well anyways, I had to stop the video and say, THANK YOU, the tips on painting shadows half way thru the video is the information I sought desperately as a beginner - devoted painter, it's been two years since I began, 2 years on skillshare..this video holds some key parts to painting with intention with watercolor painting that seems very difficult to find. Anyways, your a real GEM, thanks!
Thank you so much for taking the time to write Robin! 💜 I am always delighted to hear the videos I put out are helpful to others and I am glad the shadow tips came at the right time (having had similar aha moments while observing other artists do what they do I am always happy to share) coincidentally I was in the slump on the video-editing after putting in a ton of work in the last one (but seeing relatively low views - TH-cam algorithm is so strange 🙂) Your comment came at exactly the right time and I am now encouraged to finish a new video for this weekend ❤️ have a wonderful day!

Anna, I admire your artist talent and technique. You show me how to liberate my hands to explore the painting. Your voice is very soothing and relaxing. Thank you for showing me how to work on watercolor.
Wow Anna, you packed a ton of information in this video. I’ve only been doing watercolor for about a year and still feel like I’m not fully comfortable with it. Some days it’s great, other days loads of learning opportunities (better than saying mistakes). I’m going to keep trying because I love painting. I painted years ago with acrylic and didn’t want to return to that medium so started a watercolor journey. Always something to learn. Thank you for sharing. Blessings to you!
Fabulous instructions for beginners. Thank you for many of the simplistic(in a good way🥰) clear words I can borrow for my own class of beginners. I also appreciate your information about the Cotman set. I am a BIG fan of WN and started my own watercolour journey with a Cotman set. I wondered why my early paintings are still vibrant and will encourage people to try the set with more confidence now.
I like the demonstration of drawing out the pigment for a fading effect- very easy to follow. This painting wasn't nearly as complex, but still visually interesting and technically proficient-very nice result.
This is a wonderful tutorial! I am struggling with finding where to place the different shades, shadows, etc. So I will try to follow your instructions and hopefully do better each time. Thank you.
That one red, yellow, brown, purple petal reminds me of Fall. I'm already into Fall & Halloween right now 😂🤦🏻♀️ I can't wait apparently. This came out beautiful and shows technique is sometimes more important than the product you're using ☺️ I love it.
It's been so easy to paint after watching your video...I saw your video for the first time and just loved the way you teach😊 It's also bigginer friend... Love from Bangladesh ❤❤
That is sooo beautiful Anna . Only just starting with watercolour so this may be the first try. Waiting for the 1ST to take a look on Patreon . Trying to decide what paints would be best to get to start with. I have looked at your favourite colours but wondering if I should just get these to start with. I have a half set of pans from W-N. But not to many colours to choose from. Advice welcome.
Sorry for the late response - the "logic" of this palette is a great start and you can't go wrong with W&N. Other brand i love is Daniel Smith. Both are top quality, expensive but worth the investment. In terms of specific pigments, a good place to start is to have: - a pair of reds (cool and warm). For example Quin Coral and Quin Reed - a pair of blues (cool and warm). For example Cobalt and Phthalo Blue Green Shade - a pair of greens (cool and warm) >>> and you can mix so many more greens! - a pair of yellows or at least one (cool and warm) For example Lemon Yellow and Hansa Yellow Deep To that, I would add colors you would mostly use based on your unique style. And stick to semi or fully transparent ones as much as possible, so you can mix additional shades. I would probably add QOR Dioxazine Purple, Quin Magenta, Indigo, DS Perylene Violet, but those are just some of my favs. You may want to explore ochres or even blacks - it all depends on what you love to paint. Hope this helps!
Beautiful painting - as always Anna! I am so impressed with your use of the Cotman set. There are empty spaces within the box for other colours - what do you suggest as it's a floral set? thank you! and thank you for your hard work in helping us all to gain confidance and become better painters!
Can you do, art with cheap kids watercolour? Obviously it's not recomended but I would appreciate a video on this. How the pigment is different and what you should be doing differently. I wanna show our kids how to paint their favourite pokemon. I have 70 gram paper. I like your lotus flower.
Christiane - it’s normal, negative painting is quite a tricky technique to get into as it requires a different way of “seeing” shapes but with some practice you will get more comfortable. I have a few videos here on TH-cam and on PATREON for extra practice 😊

Beautiful! Lotus have been blooming in our pond and my mom has been drawing them all summer. She would really appreciate your tutorial.
Aww that’s sounds wonderful 😊 we don’t have this flower because our weather is too cold for it 😞 I hope your mom enjoys the video! 💜
Ooh how fantastic, are they scented?
@@nuss1e they have very delicate sweet fragrance - lotus petals are often used to add aroma to green tea.
Somehow, this video had all the answers to my water-colour mistakes 🎉 amazing job ❤
