Very well executed “ project by all involved” lots of thinking went into that machine. If a fella had one he could restore a quick change gear box on anything that had sequential size and ratio gears. Well done gentlemen
I built the version from England. It was difficult and lengthy (about 240 hours). Plans were lacking in a several places as some from England are. Not enough detail. Ended up making a lot of bushings and extentions I didn't need and could had avoided with better directions. It did turn out to be a good machine though. I saw the Martin version at the NAMES show. It appeared to be a simpler design but looked very good. If I were building another I would build the Martin one. American plans are usually better. The biggest problem is finding hobs. Usually are expensive.
This machine is cool. So my guess is this machine makes gears? The way that worm cutting piece cuts is a lot different than a single point cutter. To have the flutes in perfect alignment to create the gear teeth is amazing.
What a neat little machine! I thought it was made in the 40's or something, but looks as though it is a custom built unit. Thanks for showing that on TH-cam. I assume you would normally have cutting fluid all over that part, right?!
That's really nice. Though, if the ambition is to make gears rather than make a hobber, it might be easier to bolt a few stepper motors to a milling machine and let a computer calculate the ratios. (all depending on your personal preferences of course). (there are some examples in my channel)
Will it cut Helicals as well as Spur Forms? I have been looking into building a Hobber based off of one of the Barber-Coleman 16-16 as that is the type I am most familiar with. AVertica Gear Shaper based off of a Fellows wuld be a neat project too.
Hi Jack, nice video. I don't understand how the turns between Reducer and Creator are synchronized ... do they couple with each other in some way? I tried to put a hob on the cutter to tooth a wheel, but they ate their teeth.
Is there data on this machine? I would like to repeat. If there is information please write in the comments.
Caro Jack Hayes !
I usually use cutting oil and with CNC you mostly need flood coolant to wash away the chips but a long time ago I took a machining class taught by a person who taught high school kids and I asked him about them not using coolant. His answer was sort of like it takes a momentous amount of energy to control these kids and can you imagine them with coolant. It gave me a sort of different perspective on coolants
Mr Glenn - why is problem location Czech republic - I am delivery machine to China - shipping cost cya 300-400 USD ))) 20 years experience with selling used machine tools
Tomas Petrzela I wasn’t aware you shipped worldwide I figured the cost would be prohibitive. Give me a qoute I’m looking to cut metric module Gears. If price is in budget I’m ready to purchase.
www.martinmodel.com/MMPtools.html Costs depend on which bits you decide you need, but the basics are about $400 I think. I also wonder about buying the set

I really like this little gear hobber and the music goes really well

Plenty of hobs available but you’re right they are expensive. Usually you only need 1-2 anyway.
@@glennedward2201 A 20 DP (diametral) pitch and a module one (metric distance between pitch in mm) will just about do it for most things.
Thanks for sharing that-that little machine does fabulous work-its a work of art designed by real engineers and I like your music too..
2:35 is that cutter spindle running out or is it an optical illusion

thats is so cool love it good for a small home shop ! ty do you sell the plans for it ?

This appears to me to be superior to another offering of castings sold in the UK. Does this also cut helical gears?
Where did you get the hob cutter
Can it make helical gears?
WHAT ABOUT THE HELIX ANGLE OF THE HOB????????
Just looking at it bring memories . but dose it cut helical gears ? very nice......
Please tell me if it is possible to make a splines shaft on this machine?
I have one machine in stock? I need for slp mexico
That's really nice.

There are some who prefer the old ways of shop practice.
The kits come with castings premade they are affordable and will do good enough for most small shop needs.
@@12thpanzer And there are a lot of us old guys who are computer illiterate.
very nice working by this hobber machine.well done.bravo

Hi Jack I hope you're doing okay. Hoping you can make some more videos thank you
Hi Jack, nice video. I don't understand how the turns between Reducer and Creator are synchronized ... do they couple with each other in some way? I tried to put a hob on the cutter to tooth a wheel, but they ate their teeth.
How small gears can it make and about what is the price for such a machine?
Please send the Drawings of the machine parts
How can I purchase this machine?
Gorgeous. How long did it take to put together?
I feel a great proud for some people like you! Congratulation is litlle!
but this one looks a bit sturdier, in the hob
and gear spindles
Just amazing, I love vintage machinery. Mr. Hayes, where can I find the books?
Need one ! Could you tell me the cycle time , suppose for a spur gear with Z=20 MODULE 1 MM THICKNESS 20MM
Whats the process of purchese in india
the casting are still available
this is awesome machinery, but this is just this is done today in a mill, with a gear hobber/gear cutter and a turning table...
+Guds777 There is a big difference in gear quality, on a mill you never get an ideal gear - just some approximation.
Made a Jakobs. Hobber many years ago ..still got it ......
um im kinda new to these stuff but how do you operate it? or program it????
How many change gears will you need to make that stack of gears?
htral typically one for each pitch unless I’m missing something. It’s fairly basic I wouldn’t expect much for a hobby hobber.
Where can I get one?
Where do you buy your hobs? Are they all custom made? I have been looking for a source of hobbs for quite a while.
+Lewis Nathaniel Payton www.ebay.com/bhp/gear-hob
That was super helpful. We have started using those in class now! Thank you!
Would love to get a hold of some plans for this

Do you sale The maquine?
Sir purchase this machine
use cnc sys , very easy to make one, no mechanical linkages required
CNC has no soul, no talent and cost prohibitive for the average person. This work of art requires thought.
In México where i buy draws, mail?
Please blanck waram gear teeth waram size
I should’ve built this rather than buying a Barber Coleman #3 it would’ve been easier to move around. I guess I’m going to the grave with it.
How much do you want for this?

very good but without coolant ,introduce coolant system

Could be much smaller with CNC
