1340 i used to go up those steps and take a short cut to get home when i lived on view ave back when i was a kid. And that car place used to be Pace Pontiac
The brick house on the corner when the video first begins is the house my grandparents lived in around 1940 through the 50s. Mother had a photo of me and my cousin sitting on the bottom step Easter of 1958
View Ave was always just wide enough for one car to pass the parked cars. Grand Dad's house was gone in the location what appears to be a park now at the end of Watson and View Ave. Last time I saw it was in 1992. View Ave is the old part of town and I remember coming across View Ave where the intersection of Alexander Pl was and the road dipped over and scared the hell out of me every time I passed there. My Dad's sister lived in an old house on the corner of View Ave and Ramage Ln. I remember that she called him one night where a driver of a brand new 1965 Pontiac Bonneville missed the turn at Quarry Ave and Ramage Ln; jumped over the wall on her property, hit a tree and bounced off her 1948 Plymouth sitting on View Ave. There was minor damage to the Plymouth, which was about like a tank, however, the Pontiac was a total loss. There was a Cadillac Dealer on Locust Ave just below Cleveland Ave. I think same dealer became Anthony Chevrolet, which is at the corner of Locust Ave and Country Club Road. Lastly, College Lunch used to be across White School. I recall getting hamburger from there when I was in 5th grade. Thank you for visiting this part of old Fairmont. Many houses were torn down many are getting changed as you pointed out.
Whenever I start thinking about home I watch these. 5 more years I come home.
Lived on view ave. My first house 30 years ago
