Thank you for a fab tutorial, a beautiful mini is often let down by not binding it right, its great that you have taken the time to explaine it in easy steps.
Gosh! Thank you so much! Made a coffee table book for my brother and needed to figure out how to bind it. I used cardboard cake plates because they're nice and sturdy since my brother (at the time I posted this) has a 15 month old son at home so it needed to be durable. I wracked my brain trying to figure out how to bind it and BOOM! Your video helped so much. Thank again.
Thank you so much for your great tutorial, you have given me an idea in making a vintage photo album, I have a few great grandparent photos I can put into it hopefully when I have made it. thank you again, merry Christmas 🎄
Great tutorial, thank you ! It's always interesting to me to see how other book artists create their pages and bindings. Very well explained and clear instructions. Gleaned some good ideas from you. Thank you again. Cheers ! Janis
I think you have THE most beautiful albums. I like that you show the measurements because that is what I was having trouble with. I'm new at the mini albums and wasn't sure what to buy or how to put them together. You have inspired me and I will be doing my first mini this week. Thank you so much for the inspiration but also, the "how to's".
Thanks so much for posting this tutorial. I love making mini-albums, but find the manufactured ones, at times, "not quite right" for what I want. It'll be great to be able to "customize" an album and make it be "just perfect" for what I want. I can't wait to check out your other video tutorials. Thanks again. Have a great day! :-)
HI, Thank you so much for this video and for not rushing through it.:) I am getting ready to make my "first" mini and chose chipboard instead of paper bag for the sturdiness of the book. You have really helped.
Another fab tutorial - You seem to take the mystery out of everything in such a calm easy to understand manner. I watch so many vids but never actually get round to making the things Ive seen ........ But Im now off to grab some chip board and glue lol Again you have inspired me :)) thanks so much for sharing with us
Hi there, thanks for mailing. I get my chipboard from all over the place. The cheapest is the art shop, I buy the backing sheets of the reams of A1 paper. Its really sturdy and makes great covers. The last lot I bought at Art from the Heart. Hobbycraft sometimes stock it too but they re a bit hit and miss lol Bw Clare
Great tutorial I found this pretty easy compared to others or maybe you just explained it better idk but im horrible at measuring but I think I cann make this happen. thanks for sharing! ~Kay
Bless you! I had been struggling and was looking for the expandable spine. I recommend you add the keywords 'expandable spine' 'zigzag' in your description so it is easier to find this tutorial. I had watched it before and it took me 2 days of trailing through history and hundreds of videos through 2 different accounts (and not to forget the youtube app via tv which is not linked to anything) - argh! Thank you. I hope you are still creating.
@The5blessings Hi there, thanks so much for your comment. Cut the binding strips at 3" wide and mark the pencil line in from the edge of your page at 1". If you re thinking of adding losts of dimension to your pages you could mark the pencil like at 3/4" giving more expandability to your book!!! . Have fun making one Bw :-) C
dunno if you guys gives a shit but if you are stoned like me atm then you can stream pretty much all the new movies on Instaflixxer. I've been binge watching with my girlfriend lately :)
Excellent tutorial !!! I love your videos and how you teach. Can we get an actual video on attaching the binder to the album? I would love to see you do this and I think it would help a lot of newbies such as myself. TFS
@robslar Hi there, thanks so much for your comment. The card I use is like the Kraft card in the US. Thicker than card stock but thinner than chipboard. I don t have the weight I'm afraid. Hope this helps. Bw:-) C
Hi Janie, thanks for stopping by and mailing. I used card (210 - 250gsm weight) wich is slightly thicker than card stock for the binding. Its more robust and less likely to tear. hope this helps Bw Clare
Hi Carole thanks for stopping by my channel. The Glue Gun was bought on Ebay and I cut my chipboard with a stanley knife and Tim Holtz ruler. Have fun making your books Bw Clare
I must say your bindings on your books are so professional looking. This will be my mainstay for doing my albums from now on. Do you have a different preference for certain materials? or dp you pretty much stick with chipboard for albums? Thanks for sharing with us, I learn so much from your tutorials.
WOW. your work is GORGEOUS!! thanks for sharing...gaining lots of ideas for all the little extras that you can put into a book like this...do you use your books as gifts? Absolutely awesome really!!
Hi Katie, Thanks for stopping by my channel and mailing. I'd suggest Etsy rather than Ebay to sell you albums as its a dedicated site for hand made crafts. Bw C
Hi there, so sorry for the delay in getting back to you. I've used card stock for the ones I've bound and double folded it at the edges that sit on the front and back covers for extra strength. The chip board was bare and i painted the edges with a black acrylic dabber before covering them. Hope this is helpful. Bw :-) C
Hi Christy, thanks for stopping by and mailing me. I wold use this binding method for chipboard pages in your album. Have fun making your project. Bw C
thank you so much for making this video :D I want to start a mini album and this really really helped! Also your voice is so pleasant to listen to! lol.
@msanjanetta Hello there. thank you so much for your message. I enjoy making all of the bindings, as they all have a different look to them, and different techniques to put them together. I'd be hard pushed to come up with a favourite :-) C
OH My goodness this is a GREAT vid I have wondered how the heck to do albums that look like this and you explained it perfectly. Just have one question. when you make the binding part that wraps around the edge and hides all the edges of the chipboard. Are those black and Off white (colors you used) just regular card stock?? Or is there a special something I would need for that?? I LOVE this video and I know I will be coming back and forth to refer to it while I try my first binding. THX!
hi there, thanks for stopping by my channel and mailing. Scoring means creasing the paper or card so that it folds easily. I hope this answers your question. Bw Clare
Hello, Can I ask which of your binding methods you like best? Would it be this method shown in this video, using the Tim H. binder rings or the single rings(like the one used for the Magic of oz album). I love this method in this video
Hi there.thanks for your message. The chipboard pages are 6 x 8" and the strips are 6 x 21/4 inches, scored at 1" from either edge. If theres anything else you need to know just mail. Bw Clare
Very nice!! Thank you so much!! I tried to make mine (first try) out of dense cardboard but pretty thin and strong, and gave the 'pages' a little more than 1/4 inch of space between them using wide duck tape. as the binding. It worked out ok, but I used all my prettiest stuff and I would up not liking the silver tape so now all my prettiest stuff is in this book!!! Grrrrrr.....AND I wound up with a book like your first try...too much insides and not enough expansion!!! OOPS o_O lmao Thank you for such great instructions!!! ;-) And your books are just beautiful, BTW.
Hi C - this is probably a daft question but when you finish glueing everything and its time to decorate do you butt the decorative paper up to the3 inch binder piece or lay the decorative paper over it and go right up to the edge of the chipboard page? Im doing well so far and dont want to spoil it :)))
Hello and thank you for all your wonder videos!! I would like to know, what are you using to bind the pages together? It seems like regular paper would tear. Thank you!
Hello, I love your binding ideas, I have only just discovered these beautiful mini albums and have started to gather all my stuff to get started, but I cannot find the D-ring you use anywhere, would mind telling me please where you got them from, I'm from the UK. Yours Sincerely Mary
wow I love ur work, thanks for all the cool ideas I have a question on the binding peice u have a scores 1/2 inch in either end, what's the purpose of that, prob I missed it thx, deb
I absolutely love your work! Your techniques and attention to detail make everything you do so fabulous! I'm a beginner and trying my first chipboard page album. Do you recommend this binding technique for chipboard pages or the binding you used in your Olde Curiosity Shoppe Mini Album Video 1? Thank you so much for all your wonderful tutorials!!
I just found your channel the other day and I must say I love, love, love your mini's!!!! Can you tell me what kind of card stock you're using because your's seem MUCH thicker than the card stock I'm finding in my area. It almost appears to be thin chip board. Thanks for sharing and can't wait to see your next video.
@kerimyth Hi there, thanks for your comments. Try cuttingedgecrafts.co.uk (free postage) or Cuddly Buddly (postage a £). Both offer great postal service. Happy New Year. :-) C
I love this technique and have actually attempted it. Everything went well, but I do have a question. You said that you used "binding strips of cardboard" to connect the pages together and for the binding. Did you mean cardstock? Perhaps we have a different name for it here in the U.S.? Thanks for sharing ;-)
Great Tutorial Clare have always wondered how you did that yourself and made it look so neat and tidy. What weight card did you use for the binding? Thanks for sharing your ideas and knowledge. Tracy x
Wonderful tutorial - it is so helpful to see all the steps. I have a question about the binding measurement. You say it sticks out 1/4 inch? 1 inch + 1/4 inch times 2 ( for both sides) = 2 1/2. But you say cut them 3 inches? What am I missing?
Hello Clare, When making your chipboard pages, do you cut them a quarter inch smaller than the covers? About 5 months have gone by since you created this tutorial....how has the atg adhesive held up on this album? Thanks, Janie
I really like the way you teach and the way you show your artwork. Thank you Claire!
Omg. Such a simple method and it takes you forever to explain!!!
Thank you for a fab tutorial, a beautiful mini is often let down by not binding it right, its great that you have taken the time to explaine it in easy steps.
Clare you're an inspiration to so many of us
Brilliant! Thank you so much for posting this, and all your other videos. You explain things so clearly, and I love your accent!!

Love this and you helped me understand how the pages and strips are put together. Loved the D ring idea.
@Paganmaiden Hi Tracey, Thanks for your comment. The card I used is about 200gms I think but I have used Bazzill cardstock too. Have fun :-) C
