This seems a lot like the Wii U. Thinking backwards isn't very Nintendo. They will usually throw the baby out with the bathwater and start fresh each generation.
Imagine people with pets like cats or dogs sleeping and the console sees the movment of the cat jumping on the bed and the switch is like: Hello its 2 am in a mario voice that sh*t will be insanely creepy
Respectfully I really hope you're way off with this one. The Xbox's mandatory Kinect was already creepy enough; a system that actively records and monitors your entire room with facial recognition and monitors where you go and who you meet via your phone sounds like a nightmare
That's exactly why it's realistic; companies are all on in creepy shit like this. And consumers kinda are too. If you have any sort of Google Home/Alexa device, that is constantly recording audio of your home. It has to be, otherwise it couldn't respond when you say the devices verbal cues.
Yeah, they're VERY careful when it comes to using social media and deciding how far players can interact with online. It can be frustratingly limiting at times, but when you think about how firm they are in providing for families and younger audiences, then I can't blame them.
Yeah, this was pretty much my only thought throughout this video. Almost none of this makes sense for Nintendo. They're not big on sharing content in general. The open dock idea does sound like something Nintendo might do though.
I guess it makes sense as a TH-cam creator that you'd see social media and video sharing as important things to integrate and highlight. I don't share that myself. I think it'd just take away from the games themselves. If I had such a system, those are features I'd personally never use.
As someone with a few gradeschool aged nieces and nephews, I think you underestimate how important streaming is to the upcoming generation of kids. I say this as a 30-some-odd adult that doesn't enjoy streaming or watching Twitch.
@@brayoungfulthey may watch it but doesn’t mean they will contribute to it. I watched minecraft let’s plays non stop when I was younger, but doesn’t mean I want to make content… also Nintendo is so anti you profiting on their copyright, it would boggle my mind why they would make a system that makes it easier to do.
@@Lukweoon the other hand, I watched Minecraft content all the time as a kid and wished for nothing more than to be able to make content myself, even if it was bad, but I didn't have access to the tools to make content and so I never did. @@thomaes751 and you don't do it now... so you were never really interested you guys keep overinflating your childhood interests, when kids change hobbies every 3 seconds

Arlo did you forget what happened with Swapnote? There's no way Nintendo ever implements cameras and social media features that would allow people to share photos and videos of themselves.
Every kid has smartphones now. There's no longer any moral panic about kids sharing videos online, and it is the most common thing in the world now. Plus, Nintendo wants to appeal to everyone, not just kids and families. So, trying to appeal to the young adult, social media type would help them in that endeavour.
Nintendo can make it limited tbh and if they don’t push the online part or make it for it being with local it shouldn’t be an issue and if it does it’s on the people that caused it not their liability
I literally just want a switch capable of stronger performance (most games are tolerable that i play but making them better is nothing but a positive), and for joycon drift to not rear its ugly head. Anything else is purely optional to me, but it NEEDS those 2 things.
1. Portable. 2. Extended battery. 3. More performance. (Optional): 4. More comfortable to use. 5. Larger screen. Edit: Slots for older game cards. Complete backwards compatibility with all their handheld consoles
... Arlo, are you ok? That opening segment was rather touching, and it feels like something most people don't think about until it's already happened. If it did, then I hope you take the time you need to feel better soon.
I feel like it could’ve just been a funny moment since it’s entertaining seeing usually silly characters being really serious, but it could definitely have a darker meaning. Then again I feel as if Arlo would’ve made a video so people would know about it instead of putting it in a sponsor that most people will skip.
I think it would be really cool if the Switch 2 felt more like the 3DS in terms of personalisation and encouraging interactions with other people through things like StreetPass and themes
Arlo is playing 10-dimensional chess here. Since Nintendo always does the opposite of what he predicts, here’s a video predicting wild features like video sharing that they’d never include. This ensures they play it safe with their next system and don’t bet everything on gimmicks like they did with the Wii U!
I can only imagine Nintendo executives carefully writing down everything Arlo predicts in this video, just so they can completely change their company-wide research and development plans to make sure all the predictions are wrong. You know, because Nintendo likes to surprise us.
Given what happened to Miiverse, somehow I'm not sure that Nintendo would fully commit to adding such robust social media features to their next system, unless they also packaged it with a strict parental control application. Gotta think of the kiddos.
Nah, back then in 2016 i could get they worried about that but this is 2024 (almost), every single brat has a smartphone now, it is far more likely to them to get in trouble via their phone than with their console, and they can probably just pull something that free them of any responsability of what ppl share or do in their social plataforms in the terms and conditions that nobody ever reads
@@Elchinodawn My kid doesn’t have a smartphone. Some of us love our kids and do what we can to protect them from predators. I’m sorry if your parents didn’t bother with that.
@totallyfrozen everything he said was true though. Nintendo is a company and they will prioritize their business over the wellbeing of their customers when they think an idea can make them a lot of money.
@@Mutantman02 except it does, Nintendo doesn't care what people do with their iphones... they care that some bad press will come out of social media on their consoles it's not rocket science
The only thing I’m hoping for is more character, I miss stuff like the WiiU hub, miiverse, street plaza, just stuff that adds a sort of identity to it.
As someone who worked in AR, there's a lot of regulation surrounding the biometric data of minors that would highly dissuade Nintendo from most, if not all of the face recognition on the console. Biometric data legislation literally killed a finished feature on one of the projects I worked on.
The Arlo Recommends thing hit me like a sack of bricks, because it is so true. It requires a lot of bravery to be vulnerable and tell someone how much you care about them. Thanks, Arlo.
These features definitely intrigue me, but they also feel very Wii U-esque and I find that concerning. Like the Wii U, these Arlo predictions work as concepts but may not translate well into actual regular use in reality. The next console cannot take away from what matters in any console: THE GAMES. Beefing up the next system's graphical power will be fundamental to remain competitive, but any bells and whistles thats added needs to be fully realized before launch. It should all enhance the core gaming experience instead of taking away from it *cought Wii U. Gamers don't buy consoles just for the console itself, the games are core.
I think the the console does actually matter. For example, the Wii was more than just games with it's ton of channels. You can entertain yourself without playing games while not closing the Wii.
i think the camera sharing will run into a lot of the same problems that some previous nintendo services have: lack of proper moderation and as a result early termination of service due to distribution of inappropriate content. hope im wrong bc the idea sounds great on paper
Yeah I really don't think Nintendo is gonna go in this direction. Their consoles are geared too much towards kids to have video chat and a camera that's always watching your living room.
They could sort of do a modernized take on Pictochat; back then, you could only share things while you were in the same space as other users. So my take on it; you can't share things with anyone unless you've physically met them and had them willingly interact with your account.
Dang, I didn't realize it was April already, I feel like I completely missed the new years. Anyway, great April Fools video. I hope we get a follow up video, though; I'd love to hear what you actually would want the switch 2 to be like.
He had some great ideas I somehow hadn’t considered, that’s where the positives of this video ended. Once again Arlo didn’t understand console performance. He always acts like the Switch is X360 and PS3 equivalent and the upcoming system will go up a generation and match the PS4 and X1. The Wii U was Nintendo’s PS3 and X360, it got ports from them. Arlo must’ve played Pikmin 3 to death, I thought the upgraded visuals in Pikmin 4 would hammer in the fact that the Switch has more power than he believes. It approximates the original X1, Nintendo has been doing intergenerational consoles and it means intergenerational technology. Microsoft forces developers to support the Xbox Series S, and by coincidence (or Microsoft was planning something) it contains internals that would suit a handheld. The next Nintendo console will either match it or be a little stronger. Arlo also omits the patents that could very well be for the new system and they’re very kooky. So it likely won’t be just a Switch 2. Lastly Arlo could’ve mentioned there’s a high chance it will have DLSS 2 and FSR 3. These errors have made me lose a little respect for him.
I think Nintendo is just going to give us the barebones when it comes to console features now. Built-in apps leave too many entry points for hacks, and Nintendo would want to prevent that as much as possible. Nintendo has had so much time to give us new features within its OS, but they haven’t, and they don’t want to.
Also, PS5 and XS have bloated operating systems that take up too much RAM. If Nintendo wants to be competitive tech-wise, they need a minimalistic OS with very little in the way. That's what they did with the Switch.
I could also see them having a stylus with the new console. Imagine if you could treat the Switch like a drawing tablet and all the DS / 3DS games that could be ported. Some would obviously need proper remakes, but anything involving the stylus wouldn't have to be scrapped
There's a number of DS games that required the microphone for various gimmicky things that are necessary for progression. I can't be the only one remembering just blowing hard into the DS microphone to trigger things.
You can use a stylus on the Switch as it is, but it's clunky at best. A better implementation of the screen that would allow such a thing would be great.
Link's Awakening """remake""" (more like a demake but I won't go off right now) on Switch 2, but accessing more power so it stays at 60fps instead of constantly swinging all over the place... The game would actually be playable, that would be nice
I don't think older games can do stuff it was not programmed for without a patch, but they should do less frame drops or downscaling and still keep FPS constant.
That's the issue with Nintendo making a straight "sequel console", it would never sell as well as the switch, and it would be a hard sell for anyone casual who "already has a switch". I'm surprised Arlo didn't consider that.
@@Starius65yeah I heard that back when Super Nintendo released a lot of parents treated it like some sort of scam to make them buy the same console...
@@TakisEnjoyer despite Arlo's reasoning, even with a "2" in the name, parents still won't get it. It's like the iPhone problem; they'd see it as an upgrade not a successor. "Well the iPhone 2 already plays everything the iPhone 1 does so we obviously don't need to get you a switch 2!" They wouldn't get console succession.
The PlayStation has this problem every few generations, and it's becoming especially problematic now when so many things _are_ being cross-released; the 3 sold much worse (comparatively) to the 2 and the 5 is not selling as fast as expected/compared to previous generations. It's a diminishing problem. Not to mention that Nintendo has that problem with _every_ sequel console where it doesn't sell anywhere near as well as the original. It's a plan that's doomed to fail.
I'm really looking forward to this bigger, better Switch, and if it has even half of what's mentioned here, I'll be happy. But for real, can we talk about that "today's recommendation" segment? It's such a heartwarming sentiment. And he's right, telling someone you love how much you appreciate them is so simple, yet people don't do it often enough. Thank you for your wisdom, Arlo.
This is an idea that literally could’ve been done on the Switch, but god I want an eshop rework • You can give recommendation (thumbs up, thumbs down) marks for games to people on your friend’s list • You can pay for games on other people’s wishlists as a gift • Cash out a game on your eshop for maybe 25-50% back in credit For I think is reasonable and desirable for a Switch 2 outside of the boring answer of “make it better”: • Permit recording / streaming clip capture for people with special licenses or programs in a deluxe online pass (for tiktok or youtube shorts emphasis) • I think there might be some games to connect together where you play from your phone like a bonus controller or hub • Though I like a Miitomo like interface for interaction, there SHOULD NOT be private messaging. I can easily see creeps and scandals being uncool there. I adore the camera idea. Forget Vtubers. Become a Miituber
I hope Nintendo respects our digital purchases. I'd be coping really hard if I even mentioned the Wii U and 3DS purchases being transferred, but what if all the digital games that we got on Nintendo Switch simply couldn't be transferred? I hate even having to worry about that.
I think it was the company president who said back before/around the Switch launch that digital purchases would be tied to the new Nintendo accounts for the future - I’d like to imagine we’ll be able to have Pikmin run all our little files over but I also know Nintendo likes their money and can’t imagine it being completely free. Even the upgrade from Wii to Wii U virtual console games required a small fee
I'm sorry what?! excuse me what did I just watch?! Was there a Nintendo prediction video in here somewhere because I couldn't tell after being BLOWN AWAY by how amazing that intro was. I tell people I appreciate them all the time. At seemingly random moments I just get all gushy and sentimental. Gosh. Honestly this video is already my favorite video of 2024 and I barely got 2 minutes into the video. Arlo that was amazing. You are amazing. That is the best call to action a content creator could ever ask of their audience. Thank you so much for spreading positivity and doing your part in heling your audience improve their relationships and lives. In 2 minutes my respect for you has increased exponentially. 💖
This subscription camera aspect is frankly dystopic. I'd honestly be reticent to buy one if it came with a camera because I wouldnt trust the mic at all either
Your opening recommendation inspired me to call my mom and remind her how much I love and appreciate her. It’s something that’s rarely vocalized in my family and therefore causes some anxiousness, but it’s something I needed to do and am so happy I did. Thanks for the prompt to do so.
This is the one thing that makes me understand why Nintendo would use switch 2 and not something else, but I still like the idea of super switch. Also I feel like there’s no way they would start the console at $350 when it’s the same price as the oled which didn’t change much, but I guess when the switch 2 comes out the older ones will probably get cheaper
This is a great idea but one thing that would make it better is to have the controller (that looks like the pro controller) to be able to take a part and become joycons this will make the joy-cons be more comfortable to hold
All I want is more power, backwards compatibility and support for physical media. The idea of a dock with a visible screen is interesting. Could be fun to have it display a cool Nintendo themed clock, weather and relevant updates.
Three things I want to point out… 1. 64GB probably won’t be enough to fit even one game next generation considering that even with DLSS, 4K textures will need to be available with the game download. 2. $350 is already what the Switch OLED costs, & all signs indicate that a price drop likely isn’t happening. So if anything, I’d add $50 to both of your SKUs. 3. All current reports indicates that the system will be *MORE* powerful than the PS4, not less.
I Don't know it was nate the hate or someone else say that the successor could come out with either 128 or 512 GB of storage but that could charge before final product launch. I believe this could happen all we know they could discontinue OG(v2) model and lite somewhat(replaced it a mini version that is a lot cheaper) Cut the price of oled model before successor come out.
I like all of these features but I feel like matching PS4 in terms of power is the bare minimum. I could see it be a little bit stronger than that and use other rumored features like DLSS and the dock itself to come close current gen, at least Series S level.
@@lemon5000-tj6nv I would prefer that for sure but I don't know how much power they can squeeze inside a handheld while also not making it too expensive. It definitely can't match current gen on it's own.
DLSS isn't rumored it was fully leaked during the NVIDIA data breach. It's pretty much confirmed unless nintendo decides to change their mind due to the cyber attack but I highly doubt since it will allow them to compete with current gen even better
@@lemon5000-tj6nv no PS4 is more realistic, get your head out of the clouds, PS4 Pro would raise the price of the system significantly and Nintendo is all about balancing affordability with power.
I can vouch for the “telling your loved ones you love them” recommendation. Literally life changing. Not only do I get to let everyone know that I care about them and that I’m here for them, but often they will send the same message back on random days which just feels good. It’s an incredible amount of love and positivity that really changes everything in ways you wouldn’t expect. Let them know!!! Tell them often!!!
I am BEGGING for a unique and engaging UI and for Streetpass. Anything to make the console feel more engaging with myself and my friends. I love the AR camera ideas too! I’d love to see that!
The return of system menu charm and StreetPass are basically the two biggest things I wish we could see make a return with future systems, so I love this concept, even if charging a subscription to use many of the new features sounds a bit too realistic for my liking. I'm not convinced we'll be so lucky as to get everything outlined in this video, but I do at least suspect we'll see the return of the microphone and quite possibly the cameras with the next system after their surprising absence on the Switch (if we're not counting the IR camera, of course).
I need Nintendo and social media to be two independent circles on the Venn diagram. That being said, I'd be super surprised if they leaned hard into social media and video chat. I'm anticipating the Switch 2 to somehow have dual screen capabilities in order to remake/remaster DS and 3DS games or add those systems to NSO.
It's kinda funny watching Arlo talk for 15 minutes about what he hopes Nintendo's next system can do cuz personally, my only real hope for Nintendo's next system besides backwards compatibility is simply having passwords for users so I can put the system in living room without having to worry about someone tampering with my save files lol
Based on Nintendos previous consoles, it is very likely they will incorporate a camera of some sort. Wii -> Wii U had a camera DS -> DSi/3DS had a camera I think a front facing camera is very likely. There is so much potential with the dock.
Pretty realistic vision, honestly! My only nitpick - you did not address any new SKU of the joycons themselves. I think an updated version of the joycon that only works on Switch 2 would be inevitable, though all the old ones would still work on the new console. There's also patent data floating out in the internet to support this, suggesting they've remedied the drifting issue permanently. ... also I'd just really hope it has the name Super Switch because of nostalgia and nothing else lol
Exactly, there was also an interview in like 2019 I think of nintendo saying they want to innovate the controller next. Then theres also the NVIDIA leaks which give us a solid foundation for switch 2 and what it may have
People would be fine with no joy-con compatibility, after all the joystick drift and people eventually have to move on. I think pro controller should still be compatible though.
@@droids75 well Pikmin 3 Deluxe and Luigi’s Mansion 3 does have an achievement system built into them; and I guess Animal Crossing New Horizons if you wanna call the Nook Miles achievements
As others have mentioned, the video recordings will likely have some major restrictions, if it’s there at all. *I THINK* they could do this, but would limit it to just filtered videos, making everybody into their Mii, and/or instead of being able to send and talk directly, they’ll have to upload it to social media. It would have a similar vibe, avoid any scandals, and be a cute sort of Nintendo quirk
@@joshwhite5730 all social media platforms do this, it never works because personally I've been putting that I was born in 2000 since 2020 on every social media app and I'm still not 18
I liked the steps feature on 3DS so much. Even when i thought that i won't have time to play I would still take console with me because of it and then I would find at least 10-20 minutes to play. Wish it was implemented into the Switch itself, but the Phone App is a good way too, I just think it's a nice addition for any portable gaming device. As for coins I rarely used them myself, only for revives in SMT IV, but I think they can just make it so now you earn platinum coins to spend on avatars and maybe even themes...
no, just give it a new name. I came up with the Nintendo FOCUS leak. And I thought that was a good name. You want this new console to feel as different as possible
This is actually brilliant. It feels very realistic, but also really well thought out. Streetpass making a comeback via a Nintendo app is such a head-smackingly good idea it's insane Nintendo hasn't thought of it yet.
None of it is aligned with nintendo’s current direction unfortunately. Social media and sharing pictures/clips won’t be happening on a console sold to families with kids who are vulnerable on the internet. Parental controls are not enough of a solution either.
Yeah it would be nice but it's not going to happen I don't think. Nintendo seems to be really out of their league when it comes to trying to develop for mobile and I don't see that changing, hopefully I'm wrong though.
I’m surprised you’d say the simple name of “Switch 2” would be “in line with the rest of the tech industry,” when we’ve seen Microsoft do “Xbox One,” “Xbox One X,” and “Xbox Series X” in a row
The new Alarmo clock not only contains all the letters of your name, but the concept of "Nintendo character on a screen always in your room" made me think of this video, so I feel like we might see a 2nd channel video along the lines "I almost kinda sorta predicted this" lol
The idea of a rear facing camera with an emphasis on AR and being able to make characters jump around your actual IRL surroundings REALLY makes me imagine applications with, like, Pikmin and _Chibi Robo-_ imagine algorithms in Pikmin 5 or a new Chibi Robo game that can take your surroundings, use image recognition to pick up on shapes or objects, and use them to transform the space into a _prodedurally generated area_ to play through.
Perhaps Mario Kart Live: Home Circuit was them testing the idea? MAYBE! Pikmin Live sounds like a natural choice. What would the Pikmin think of my cat walking toward them...
Hold your Switch as if your playjng naturally and imagine it has a rear facing camera. You will quickly understand why Nintendo will not have this especially not with any sort of recording to share features
@@chiquita683 that's completely irrelevant to the concept i was specifically talking about, my original comment had nothing to do with sharing or social media whatsoever lmao also the DSi and 3DS literally had cameras facing both ways and AR stuff already so ???
Sony did let people send videos to each other on PS4. Took about a day before someone posted a “Paris Hilton style home video experience” and Sony removed the feature promptly.
I'm legit impressed with how Arlo envisions the switch 2. Lot's of these features make sense. That being said, Nintendo's strong suit is NOT consistency. Plus knowing the scandals the DS got with children talking to adults online, Nintendo isn't going to want to make those clips easily accessible. Just look at what you needed just to have voice chat on the switch. I totally get it from any other console perspective. Nintendo however, moves to the beat of their own drum.
Love the ideas, however I think there's a big issue you forgot to consider. Nintendo specifically refused to add a browser to Switch originally to attempt to prevent hacking. Adding the ability for a mobile app to connect over bluetooth and send data from another device opens a MASSIVE security hole. Even though I think they should do this, I really doubt Nintendo will. I just see it as something Nintendo would never do. I hope I'm wrong though.
I like the idea of the docked switch screen still being usable. Minimaps, rearview mirrors for racing games, bring up your item screen and the regular camera appears on the switch.
Who has their dock close enough to see the screen while they play? I primarily play PS5 on my iPad and keep the screen covered because it’s distracting seeing the motion on the screen and the TV. I can’t imagine having to look down for important information on the dock while playing a game. It was different on DS when the screens are next to each other, but with a Switch the dock could be in a different part of the room from the TV you play on.
I just hope they give us some kind of trophy system. Would give many people extra motivation to revisit their legacy content which is what they want anyway.
I hope they make docking easier this time. The current system is fine, but it gets kinda annoying to have to slot it into the dock sometimes. I remember seeing a concept where it docked on a wireless charging pad sort of thing and loved that idea. Just set it down on the table and play. Though thats gonna be hella expensive. Id ideally like to see it reduced to a cable that plugs directly into the tv with no dock at all if possible, so you can just bundle up the cord and easily take the entire thing to your friend’s house or something. And if they’re gonna keep the dock as is, they should take more advantage of the added space to put additional processing hardware in it (or maybe sell a “Dock Pro” with said hardware) that could boost the console’s performance for TV play.
I feel like some of these are a long stretch but i actually really love the concept for stuff appearing on a docked Switch! It could be dynamic with what it shows and not be extremely bright thanks to OLED screens
I appreciate the ideas in this video and the extremely adorable illustrations. I could maybe...MAYBE...see an Iwata, Wii U/3DS, Miiverse era Nintendo doing some of that AR, social media, fishbowl stuff talked about in this vid... Not Switch-era Nintendo, though. Besides the other risks to children in social media people have pointed out...remember that the current Switch doesn't even have themes or a sensible folder system. They are all about cheap, low budget, minimal design when it comes to UI. I dont think thats going to change any time soon considering how successful the Switch has been. So, can't agree with the central conceit of this vid, but I do at least agree with the start of it. I think a more powerful Switch 2 is about all we are going to get...and thats probably enough to have it sell like hotcake - especially if the launch titles are heavy hitters. It doesn't really need a spin, and I don't expect one, even from the gimmick-loving Nintendo.
I never understood people saying making the dock be a map/extra screen because.... its usually to far away to see it.(most people dont sit right next to their tv). I love the fish tank/ clock idea way more. have it be like miiverse/ tomodachi life with characters just about their day, or a nintendo esq clock. i can see it just displaying different game backgrounds (with the wallpaper from the Nintendo website). Hoping that the simplicity of the Switch menus gets added ✨features✨like maybe menu music, themes, customization for everyone (what shows in the menu, controller options, accessibility options). I love the quickness of the switch menu so hoping that still is the case after... just need the eshop and nintendo membership to be fine tuned for quicker load times.
All I hope for the next console is backwards compatible and way stonger specs. At least or almost ps4Pro specs that can run solid 60-120fps with 1080-4k no dips. And games that really use the potential of the upgraded specs. No more sub par ports that run way way worse than other consoles. Also make the dock have internal cooling to allow the console to really tap into its potential without overheating.
Arlo, your creativity is UNMATCHED. You're literally one of the best creators I'm subbed to, and this video just confirms it. I'm so impressed! The revival of StreetPass would be especially wonderful if it came true, and the sort of second screen with the console itself has a lot of potential. You're just bursting with creativity and I can tell you've been thinking about the Switch 2 for so long. 😂
For someone like me who mainly games on steam, the "gimmicks" arlo described sound like fun ways to get me more into the switch ecosystem as a social gaming hub
as someone who walks a lot, i love the idea of bringing StreetPass back. i'd be very excited to see all this in Switch 2! maybe also pie in the sky but i'd also love to see Miiverse make a return since we're talking about lots of social media integration. i think that'd work well! i'd also love to see some kind of achievement system as well.
Genuinely the camera and upgraded dock is the most inventive idea I've seen. Takes from the DS generation without the 2 screen gimmick taking over. Still holding out for Super Nintendo Switch 2 name
I get why Arlo didnt mention it, since it might be technically unfeasible at a decent pricetag, but can we take a minute to acknowledge the idea of a Switch 2 that adds a new pillar to go along with tabletop and TV: VR? Native VR would be an insane draw if they could get it working well, and it totally fits with Nintendo's pension for experimental new ideas (and the existing design of the switch itself). We even got a taste of this with Labo!
@wesshiflet2214 Since it'd be the console's primary selling point and "bundled" with each system, the VR market would grow exponentially. All the major VR hits would get ports to it, and all the major Nintendo franchises (Mario, Zelda, Animal Crossing) would get new, exciting games that take advantage of it. If it worked, it could lead to widespread VR adoption in a way we've never seen before.
I would love to see the new joy cons and dock feature proper IR motion control functionality like the Wii/Wii U both for backwards compatibility and so games might actually use the feature.
Streetpass on your phone is actually a really clever idea, and is likely to get more use than with the 3DS, because everyone carries a phone with them when they go out. I had this idea of streaming your system onto the TV without using the dock, so you could use the touch screen when playing on the TV at the cost of weaker visuals. It would be like playing on the Wii U, only more user friendly. Plus the new JoyCon would come with haptic feedback, analog triggers and infrared sensors, which can be used with the camera or sensor bar for pointer controls. All these features would make it the ideal platform for backwards compatibility for GCN, Wii, Wii U, DS and 3DS games.
This honestly sounds perfect. StreetPass returning would be a big plus for me, as I loved using it on the 3DS. Call me nostalgic but I want to return to the days of sharing my games with my friends in person instead of just online lol
The rest of the video matters but the opening ad read was the best. You’re the best, Arlo. And sincerely hope that was not brought on by recent circumstance.
Fortunately the memory cost has gone low enough (and more importantly, the specs of games will grow large enough) where 128GB feels like the absolute floor of storage. They might try a double stack with two storage profiles (say, 128/256 or 256/512), but my latest pendrive was north of €20 for 256GB - and I'm sure the Micro SD cards are also in that similar ballpark.
I only got NSO once when it came bundled with Mario Maker 2 and I will never get it again. I just feel it's the principle of speaking with my wallet by not getting something I don't believe in and I don't care how good they make it, one of their head honchos (Satoru Iwata) said in his own words that he belived it's not fair to make people buy a game and then pay to play online. Nintendo never made us pay for online "services" (paying to use you own internet) before and I will not support that.
I'll throw a curveball and say Nintendo is going full-blast on this console. The Nintendo Switch Flip, yet another new and innovative way to play, that combines features from ALL of their previous systems. Where, the system features two detachable OLED 720p screens. The premise of this system is that it will feature two screens, so you can share it with a friend, play in the dual-screen mode, or use it seperately(mechanically) in different titles that utilize it. Obviously you can still fold it and dock it for those who want a home console experience. Also, to point this out. In October 2023 Nintendo patented exactly this idea. So, I'm not completely off my rocker in assumption. But, I did learn about this patent after i wrote this.

Honestly after watching the video, I really don’t see your predictions coming true at all lol. Great video tho!
Yo
This seems a lot like the Wii U. Thinking backwards isn't very Nintendo. They will usually throw the baby out with the bathwater and start fresh each generation.
Imagine you walk into your room in the middle of the night, your switch 2 turns on, and Ganondorf just points at you silently with a scowl.
or even better..... wario finger
Imagine if you walk into your room and your screen displays that one Goku meme.
I agree
it sounds like it would be mandatory tho. Would you still be opposed to it if it was entirely optional?
Yeah hard pass. Keep cameras and social media out of gaming. Just give us better performance
Wait till you hear about phones and smartwatches
That's exactly why it's realistic; companies are all on in creepy shit like this. And consumers kinda are too. If you have any sort of Google Home/Alexa device, that is constantly recording audio of your home. It has to be, otherwise it couldn't respond when you say the devices verbal cues.
There’s no way Nintendo risks adults befriending kids and sending them videos on their game consoles. No way even in a frozen Hell.
Yeah, they're VERY careful when it comes to using social media and deciding how far players can interact with online. It can be frustratingly limiting at times, but when you think about how firm they are in providing for families and younger audiences, then I can't blame them.
Yep. Remember what happened with Swapnote?
Correct.
I am not yet convinced that Switch 2 will even have chats like Playstation and Xbox...I hope it will, but we will see....
yeah, they already had a Notable Problem with people sending photos in Swapnote from what i remember
If that was true Nintendo would have some form of a legitimate party system on switch. @vico7727
Nintendo can make it limited tbh and if they don’t push the online part or make it for it being with local it shouldn’t be an issue and if it does it’s on the people that caused it not their liability

Arlo is playing 10-dimensional chess here. Since Nintendo always does the opposite of what he predicts, here’s a video predicting wild features like video sharing that they’d never include. This ensures they play it safe with their next system and don’t bet everything on gimmicks like they did with the Wii U!
Honestly that's my only explanation for Arlo feeling waaaaaay off here.
They'll realize the I looks like a Roman numeral and call it the "SWIITCH"
Haha yeah
Nah, Arlo said that the switch successor would just be upgrade. That means Nintendo is gonna release a console with a new special feature
You need to rethink your definition of gimmick. The Wii U wasn’t gimmicky.
I can only imagine Nintendo executives carefully writing down everything Arlo predicts in this video, just so they can completely change their company-wide research and development plans to make sure all the predictions are wrong. You know, because Nintendo likes to surprise us.
There are surely people inside Nintendo who watch Arlo, no joke, Kit and Krysta said it was common for them to watch TH-camrs.
Then arlo had better predict xenoblade x wont get ported

Given what happened to Miiverse, somehow I'm not sure that Nintendo would fully commit to adding such robust social media features to their next system, unless they also packaged it with a strict parental control application. Gotta think of the kiddos.
Nah, back then in 2016 i could get they worried about that but this is 2024 (almost), every single brat has a smartphone now, it is far more likely to them to get in trouble via their phone than with their console, and they can probably just pull something that free them of any responsability of what ppl share or do in their social plataforms in the terms and conditions that nobody ever reads

Agreed. The Switch's UI is so plain.
I want a new version of Miiverse where i can follow communities for certain games and posts screenshots, clips, and comments. Oh, and the drawings.
Thank you, Arlo!
The illegal photos would be insane
It absolutely would. Creepy nasty people can and will use anything they can to do despicably evil things.
It’s absolutely 180% NEVER happening for several obvious reasons.
Dang, I didn't realize it was April already, I feel like I completely missed the new years. Anyway, great April Fools video. I hope we get a follow up video, though; I'd love to hear what you actually would want the switch 2 to be like.
fr fr we're surveilled too much already
Arlo, the fact that you recommended telling someone you love and appreciate is so amazing. Thank you for being the monster you are. You made my day

@@Niro267the screen should be better to match modern smartphones
It was the best ad I've ever watched
Wait there’s a MONSTER AT THE END OF THIS BOOK??
yea that was really sweet
I think Nintendo is just going to give us the barebones when it comes to console features now. Built-in apps leave too many entry points for hacks, and Nintendo would want to prevent that as much as possible. Nintendo has had so much time to give us new features within its OS, but they haven’t, and they don’t want to.
Also, PS5 and XS have bloated operating systems that take up too much RAM. If Nintendo wants to be competitive tech-wise, they need a minimalistic OS with very little in the way. That's what they did with the Switch.
I believe the switch was rushed so they cut all the extra work, it also doesn’t make sense to have these development in the mid-point of the lifecycle
I could also see them having a stylus with the new console. Imagine if you could treat the Switch like a drawing tablet and all the DS / 3DS games that could be ported. Some would obviously need proper remakes, but anything involving the stylus wouldn't have to be scrapped
The problem there, however, is translating games intended for a resistive screen to a less-accurate capacitive screen.
@@dapperfan44A lot of DS game don’t need that much accuracy. In case you need it, they can also sold the stylus seperately
That'd be pretty sweet
There's a number of DS games that required the microphone for various gimmicky things that are necessary for progression. I can't be the only one remembering just blowing hard into the DS microphone to trigger things.
You can use a stylus on the Switch as it is, but it's clunky at best. A better implementation of the screen that would allow such a thing would be great.
All I care about is backwards compatibility, better performance on already existing switch games like 60 fps upgrades
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That’s literally all I want… plus a better home screen with eshop music girllllllll
@@IsraelLlerenaeShop has to actually run on the console before they can add music. Load time has become abyssmal as the shop bloats in size
And letting us buy the older NSO games like Gamecube games
Link's Awakening """remake""" (more like a demake but I won't go off right now) on Switch 2, but accessing more power so it stays at 60fps instead of constantly swinging all over the place... The game would actually be playable, that would be nice
I don't think older games can do stuff it was not programmed for without a patch, but they should do less frame drops or downscaling and still keep FPS constant.

If it is like this, it’s a hard pass from me. I can only imagine it would be a hard pass for a lot of parents for their kids as well.
@@Starius65No one seems to have a problem with Playstation 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5
The PlayStation has this problem every few generations, and it's becoming especially problematic now when so many things _are_ being cross-released; the 3 sold much worse (comparatively) to the 2 and the 5 is not selling as fast as expected/compared to previous generations.
Very true.
When the music stopped, I knew it was serious.
I doubt it will THAT much bigger.
I mean, it probably won’t be anything like this. It’s a prediction, not guaranteed that even some of the features would make it.
This is an idea that literally could’ve been done on the Switch, but god I want an eshop rework
• You can give recommendation (thumbs up, thumbs down) marks for games to people on your friend’s list
• You can pay for games on other people’s wishlists as a gift
• Cash out a game on your eshop for maybe 25-50% back in credit
For I think is reasonable and desirable for a Switch 2 outside of the boring answer of “make it better”:
• Permit recording / streaming clip capture for people with special licenses or programs in a deluxe online pass (for tiktok or youtube shorts emphasis)
• I think there might be some games to connect together where you play from your phone like a bonus controller or hub
• Though I like a Miitomo like interface for interaction, there SHOULD NOT be private messaging.
There’s so many switch games that could benefit from the extra power too. It seems like a huge mistake for it to not be backwards compatible
If that happens then I hope there’s a juicy exploit on the console so we can mod it and play the games we already bought that way.
Do we even have much precedent of Nintendo or any console maker doing this though? I wouldn't hold my breath about this.

This is the one thing that makes me understand why Nintendo would use switch 2 and not something else, but I still like the idea of super switch. Also I feel like there’s no way they would start the console at $350 when it’s the same price as the oled which didn’t change much, but I guess when the switch 2 comes out the older ones will probably get cheaper

this guy arlo is out of his mind I don’t think a single one of these ideas will come to fruition
All I want is more power, backwards compatibility and support for physical media. The idea of a dock with a visible screen is interesting. Could be fun to have it display a cool Nintendo themed clock, weather and relevant updates.
Three things I want to point out…
1. 64GB probably won’t be enough to fit even one game next generation considering that even with DLSS, 4K textures will need to be available with the game download.
2. $350 is already what the Switch OLED costs, & all signs indicate that a price drop likely isn’t happening. So if anything, I’d add $50 to both of your SKUs.
3. All current reports indicates that the system will be *MORE* powerful than the PS4, not less.
To be fair 32GB wasn't even enough for many last gen games and that didn't seem to slow Nintendo down
I Don't know it was nate the hate or someone else say that the successor could come out with either 128 or 512 GB of storage but that could charge before final product launch.
I believe this could happen all we know they could discontinue OG(v2) model and lite somewhat(replaced it a mini version that is a lot cheaper) Cut the price of oled model before successor come out.
Whatever it is we all know its gonna be $500 cuz Nintendo is gonna match the Xbox and PS
Next Switch won't be native 4k.
@@hododod246 Native? Hell no. It’ll be upscaled 4K via DLSS.
I like all of these features but I feel like matching PS4 in terms of power is the bare minimum. I could see it be a little bit stronger than that and use other rumored features like DLSS and the dock itself to come close current gen, at least Series S level.
It may be the bare minimum, but it's what they'll do -- PS4 ballpark power but current gen feature parity.
nah ps4 pro should be the bare minimum, not base ps4
The random thing about telling your loved ones you loved them at 1:06 hit hard tho
Based on Nintendos previous consoles, it is very likely they will incorporate a camera of some sort.
Wii -> Wii U had a camera
DS -> DSi/3DS had a camera
I think a front facing camera is very likely.
I really want an achievement system on it similar to PlayStation, Xbox and Steam
I would love a platinum trophy like achievement too
Yes! To this! Desperate for achievements 😢

The new Alarmo clock not only contains all the letters of your name, but the concept of "Nintendo character on a screen always in your room" made me think of this video, so I feel like we might see a 2nd channel video along the lines "I almost kinda sorta predicted this" lol
wasn't expecting to have feels today. But the end of that gave some real feels.
@@chiquita683 that's completely irrelevant to the concept i was specifically talking about, my original comment had nothing to do with sharing or social media whatsoever lmao
also the DSi and 3DS literally had cameras facing both ways and AR stuff already so ???
@@chiquita683 I’m imagining more how we use the cameras on phones. Think of Pokémon Go.
NEW ARLO VIDEO!
Wait until this guy hears about the Wii U
I hope they go with a dongle instead of a dock. I miss the duel screen stuff on Wii U.
Wonder if a set up like this will implement DS like games or ports of DS games in theory.
Oh my God, rear view for racing games would be so damn slick
5:19 you did it Arlo!
I feel like some of these are a long stretch but i actually really love the concept for stuff appearing on a docked Switch! It could be dynamic with what it shows and not be extremely bright thanks to OLED screens
Hey Arlo, we all appreciate you. Thanks for doing what you do. Happy New Year.
called my grandma as soon as you recommended it, thank you very much arlo.
For someone like me who mainly games on steam, the "gimmicks" arlo described sound like fun ways to get me more into the switch ecosystem as a social gaming hub
If Arlo appreciated get socks from Santa... it probably means he has feet- which probably means he has legs. The Arlo lore deepens.
Hey its the pikmin 4 guy
That square space hit hard at the best/worst time. Thank you for that bud ❤
as someone who walks a lot, i love the idea of bringing StreetPass back. i'd be very excited to see all this in Switch 2! maybe also pie in the sky but i'd also love to see Miiverse make a return since we're talking about lots of social media integration. i think that'd work well! i'd also love to see some kind of achievement system as well.
i love how excitedly he explains the most dystopian shit i've ever heard
VR is probably red ocean at this point. How could they keep up?
@wesshiflet2214 Since it'd be the console's primary selling point and "bundled" with each system, the VR market would grow exponentially. All the major VR hits would get ports to it, and all the major Nintendo franchises (Mario, Zelda, Animal Crossing) would get new, exciting games that take advantage of it. If it worked, it could lead to widespread VR adoption in a way we've never seen before.
I would love to see the new joy cons and dock feature proper IR motion control functionality like the Wii/Wii U both for backwards compatibility and so games might actually use the feature.
oooh, yes please! I've never even considered that, but now I want it
Streetpass on your phone is actually a really clever idea, and is likely to get more use than with the 3DS, because everyone carries a phone with them when they go out.
I hope the new console sort of brings back the Mii aesthetic and makes Miis more prominent like the Wii consoles
'who up donkeying the kong' made me laugh so much harder than i thought
It's an 8" screen - or close, it's a 7.81", but yeah, it'll be a bit larger. No camera though
The animations were awesome!
paintras animations were wonderful, couldnt stop smiling the whole video
I cannot escape the name: Switch Up. Even the slogan just blasts Nintendo vibes. “Switch it Up!”
Wonderful art for the video! Kudos to the artist!
