This is classic. One of the darkest sounding beats ever made, and Canibus spits out some of the most wicked, crushing verses ever heard in a battle rap. Its a shame Canibus didn't break out and really come into his own. Edit: There is so much that can be said about Canibus's Second Rd. K.O.... Like you guys said, this was a relative unknown taking on a giant of the industry. Canibus's attack is so focused and absolutely relentless, but not wild: he is in complete control of his delivery and composure, like an assassin. And the beat supports this perfectly, dark, sinister, and *quiet*: his blistering attack is more than enough to accomplish his objective. No need for a loud cluttered beat to make up for a weak rhymes. Ultimately, LL's comeback falls pretty flat. Just a bunch of tautologies (because he sells so many records and books, he is superior, and just because you might've bought something of his, you can't turn around and call him out for being a sellout? Try arguing out of that circular logic). Not to mention some lame childishness, and a much weaker, commercial, forgettable beat. And, if LL is so far "way up here", why is he even bothering with a "no-name" like Canibus? Bc he knows he got his ass burned hard and he's just trying to do damage control. Canibus for the win. Greatest battle rap in history. And how many people even know it?

I give the win to bus. I grew up with LL, but bus was a beast. They’re not even in the same category with lyricism. I’ve listen to Canibus thousand bars over 400 times and counting. I’m still picking up stuff that he said. He’s just one of those that are above and beyond his time. The industry black, bald Canibus because we knew LL longer. Just imagine LL coming up at the same time as bus. We both know LL wouldn’t have made an impact.
Jude Chukwuelue Haha same. I’m 38 and Second Round came out in ‘98 when I was 18. But I remember when 4,3,2,1 came out. It was in ‘96 and I was 16. That’s when the beef started.
Q ue There was actually a lot of discussion between the two before he decided to go back at him, and since Canibus’ record was in the works already, he went at him then. Look up the history. I’m sure you can find it floating around somewhere.
Yall forgot to mention the phone conversation that canibus had with LL that came out. That had a big impact on why people thought LL won. It's hard for the bigger artist to win a battle because there's so much more information out there for the other guy to have
Canibus was rough. This is what you call hard core hip hop. LL been in the game for about 20 yrs so they gonna push LL because of his longevity But Canibus knocked this one out.
LL actually did a straight hardcore diss originally but his people had him calm it down because of his image this was the third version of the diss and that's why it took so long to come out. Would love for him to release the original. At least that was the word back in the day at def jam
CANIBUS KILLED LL LYRICALLY AND I MESS WITH LL GREW UP ON HIM BUT BATTLE WISE CANIBUS WON LL IS A RAPPER MORE OF AN ENTERTAINER CANIBUS IS AN MC MORE OF A LYRICIST .
Internationally, Canibus won, 2nd Round KO was playing everywhere, from England to South Afrika. L.L. Cool J was not seen again until he started rapping on R&B songs.
Canibus has always been a prolific wordsmith, I feel his Achilles heel has been picking producers, IMHO rip the jacker is one of his best albums because The producer (stoupe the enemy of mankind) complimented his unique flow and wordplay.
Rip The Jacker is a near perfect album. Melatonin Magic is also close. Mic Club and FWTBT are a bit under them but still great. Overall 'Bis gave us some excellent albums, shame he never got more success.

Vick what the hell are you talking about? LL pulled a straight bitch move. LL changed his verse because he was an egomaniac then told Bis he would change his lines. The song leaked without LL changing his lines and then called Bis and asked him not to diss him and that's not a bitch move? Lmfao
@@iwgp4nagata facts don't lose weight. Wtbs LL didn't start the beef. Canibus had a problem with LL keeping that verse for the song. LL told him to leave it alone and no one would know that the verse was about him. Canibus was all in his feelings and couldn't leave it alone so he recorded 2nd Round KO. That's when the beef started. So the beef was started by Canibus not LL.
@@SUPREMEgoldchain_REAKTZ what. Of course ll started the beef. LL caught feelings over one line which wasn't a diss and the fact that Canibus killed his verse and had the best verse on the track. Whether people knew it was about canibus is irrelevant, canibus knew and the streets knew. Canibus would have looked ridiculous if he didn't say anything in response. LL should have left it along to begin with and not get so emotional over some young cat new in the game.
Canibus won that, but LL used his fame to shield him from that loss. I still don't like what the industry did to Canibus after that. I think LL felt some kind of way, and used his influence to hinder Canibus' career.
Nik 117 Lol. You’re funny. I like LL. He’s a ladies man and made good love music. But he can’t touch Canibus lyrically. More money, sure. More fame, yup. But you give me Canibus and LL in a room together to battle, if you don’t pick Canibus you’re a fool.
@@joeymiller217 And Canibus couldn't touch LL musically where it really matters. All that lyrical talent and yet nothing to show for it except being a minor inconvenience in LL's career.
You guys made a good point about flashing back to this battle for a new opinion on it, I remember when it came out, but hearing it now, half the stuff cannabis came out saying at the beginning wasnt even true, he can't question LL's credibility when LL has been selling records since the early 80's to hardcore rap fans and "fans in highheels" as well lol, Cannabis said he only appeals to real rap fans, but how many real rap fans do you have when the majority of people didnt even know you existed yet? Cannabis came at him with some battle shit, the only way LL wouldve have beat Cannabis is if he came at him with some real factual, personal disses, and it would have been very possible for LL to win, the only way to really burn someone in a rap battle is to hit under the belt and come at someone with some real factual disses, I'm not to the LL song yet, but I remember it didnt hit that hard, if a youngster came at me like that, I would've come with everything I had because LL basically had all the credibility Cannabis claimed he didn't.
Amber S if u listen to his entire cds you wont say pg Versatility New stuff like RINGTONE MURDER SPEEDIN ON THE HIGHWAY ITS TIME FOR WAR JUMP ON IT WHO WANT IT WITH THE GOAT LAPTOP GANGSTAS HI HATER WE ROLLIN TRY THOSE fa starters
Man, Bus destroyed LL. Everyone knows Bus can't write a good hook to save his life, and he wasn't really a hit song guy, but he brought LL into his realm. In this realm, LL is way out of his league, at at time when his lyricism star was setting, and a new breed of lyrical emcee was emerging. This was embarrassing for LL in the same way that setting star Bus reading from a notebook at a rap battle was. The new breed always comes, and it will embarrass you.
Bus wasn't ever a battle rapper. He took the battle for the cash only. I think it was 10,000 just for showing up or something like that. Battle rapping is far harder than it looks. You've got to come up with stuff on the spot to try to make your opponent put the Mic down, meaning surrendering, or you gotta make the crowd and judges pick you as the winner. Not only that, but Bus never had a chance. He was going up against a multiple time grand battle rap champion named Disaster. So it was like putting a White belt against a black belt, no contest at all. Bus should have saved face and turned down the battle. He really embarrassed himself there
That's why you need a team of youngsters to help you adapt. I think Ll had the lyrical ability to get cannibus but like thet said he had alot of surface level rhymes. Somebody in the studio should have hyped him up and made him go a lil bit more direct. But his voice and delivery and beat was waaaay better than cannibus boring raspy ass voice

Like you guys mentioned, "Second Round K.O." had the video and debut album roll out. "The Ripper Strikes Back" DID come out the same year as Canibus's song though (1998). I got the song on a bonus disc from one of the 1998 Def Jam releases. I think was Onyx's third album 'Shut Em Down'.
@@mstefanidis1841 That wasn't trash when he said..again you had to actually been living at that time in hip to understand the reference....It was like utterly destroying a person.
People got all over Canibus for weak albums, but the hardest album he put together was Rip the Jacker which was entirely produced by Stoupe from Jedi Mind Tricks. People that gave up on Canibus need to check that shit out.
the whole hip hop world knows that Canibus won the battle but LL won the war..this is what made this battle so exciting and classic because it was the case of the underdog vs a mega mega artist

I'm really happy you did this battle. There were something like 5 songs in this battle but Canibus clearly took this one. LL's song was a firm 2.5 stars outta 5. Canibus was hungry and wanted it more. I still think this basically ended his rap career. I think it showed LL that he didn't have the hunger he thought he had. Hard to summon the young LL when the money's straight. BTW, if you've never heard "Desperados" from The Firm album, Canibus has the first verse and for my money it's one of the best verses in all of hip-hop. Very much worth a listen (and reaction). (The Firm was Nas, Foxy Brown, and AZ.)
@@MrBean617 Canibus has nothing to do with eating. That Tyson "I want to eat his children" line is well known. Look it up. Instead of eating children he wanted Canibus to eat M.C.'s. He was making a comparison between himself and Canibus.

Idc what anyone says...even after that notepad incident...he is still legit in my top 10 lyricists
Oh please stop it. That LL beat was meant for war. LL came out with a nuke. He sent that kid back into obscurity.
@@ArMiNiSfUCkinRedicK ll a top 10 lyricist? You don't understand lyricism if that's the case lol
LL no doubt a legend, but Canibus definitely took this💯 Dope choice guys🔥

You guys are dope! I am 37 years old! I was 17/18 years old at the time... this was 1998 or 1999 I think 🤔... your taking me down memory lane!!
Jude Chukwuelue Haha same. I’m 38 and Second Round came out in ‘98 when I was 18. But I remember when 4,3,2,1 came out. It was in ‘96 and I was 16. That’s when the beef started.
@@thenothing2931 so Canibus waited 2 yrs just to address the situation?
Q ue There was actually a lot of discussion between the two before he decided to go back at him, and since Canibus’ record was in the works already, he went at him then. Look up the history. I’m sure you can find it floating around somewhere.
Can-i-bus 😎
Yall forgot to mention the phone conversation that canibus had with LL that came out. That had a big impact on why people thought LL won. It's hard for the bigger artist to win a battle because there's so much more information out there for the other guy to have
Great analysis! Breaking it down line by line diss by diss was 🔥 🔥!!
Canibus was rough. This is what you call hard core hip hop. LL been in the game for about 20 yrs so they gonna push LL because of his longevity But Canibus knocked this one out.
Yes!!!!! Favorite Canibus song next to Poet Laureate. I played Second Round K.O. and 4,3,2,1 so much in high school!
LL actually did a straight hardcore diss originally but his people had him calm it down because of his image this was the third version of the diss and that's why it took so long to come out. Would love for him to release the original. At least that was the word back in the day at def jam
Released on the limited edition dmx it's dark and hell is hot album... The original version definitely would've tarnished ll cool j's career!!!
LL is great and he's a icon of hip hop but mad at Bis for saying he want to borrow a mic from LL's tattoo is very childish. IMO
C-Bus won it, but maybe at the time a lot might have thought LL won it cuz of his reach
@Nevin Reid L. L. Kool J went awfully quiet
Canibus won, shit I remember when this came out and no-one thought canibus could take on LL back then, great battle though
LL destroyed the Can
You're trippin,bus torched LL ez
90% of rappers now cant touch Canibus bar for bar on track. Canibus was a beast all them years ago and still nice now.
no doubt. top 5 goat doa.

Thanks for helping get through some hard times guys I love the channel
Canibus has always been a prolific wordsmith, I feel his Achilles heel has been picking producers, IMHO rip the jacker is one of his best albums because The producer (stoupe the enemy of mankind) complimented his unique flow and wordplay.
DAEMONAZ he actually made the beats over Bis verses where as MCs usually write over the beat.
DAEMONAZ I agree. Canibus had/has a worse ear for beats than NaS. Lol
Rip The Jacker is a near perfect album. Melatonin Magic is also close. Mic Club and FWTBT are a bit under them but still great. Overall 'Bis gave us some excellent albums, shame he never got more success.
This was everything I was hoping it would be.
#FreeThinkers
CaniBus still won
Before I watch this I just want to say this is my all-time favourite rap battle! I was obsessed with this at the time and I still am to this day! So to me, this could be the greatest reaction video ever... Let’s go!!!
"When you that you're platinum, you're only dropping clue's"..was a double meaning...at the time on the east coast the mixtape king was a guy called DJ CLUE who had everybody on his tapes. From Mary J to Jay Z and everyone in between and he was always say platinum on his tapes......
Canibus...simply because he didnt pull the cheap move of recording his verse after the fact
GoCeltics734 it was ll song, not can not bus!
Not a bitch move when your on that mans budget... called seniority son
Vick what the hell are you talking about? LL pulled a straight bitch move. LL changed his verse because he was an egomaniac then told Bis he would change his lines. The song leaked without LL changing his lines and then called Bis and asked him not to diss him and that's not a bitch move? Lmfao
agreed
LL said a lot of filler cuz there wasn't much you could say about Canibus. What can u say about someone that has no record?
Exactly, and this isn't a street battle he didn't need to go bar for bar with him. They missed it with Killshot too
Agree but that argument loses weight when LL was the one who started the battle in the first place.
Agree but that argument loses weight when LL was the one who started the battle in the first place.
I always thought Can-I-bust won that battle. In retrospect I can see a similarity between pusha t and drake.
gunz350 nah bruh, both those gods were LYRICIST...
Pusha T was more disrespectful than Canibus imo
Enoch Heavens you right, no respect in hip hop anymore
Enoch Heavens listen to rip the jacker by Canibus. It’s an LL Diss
Drake/LL protected by the media.
push/bus the actual MC with more skills and the winner
I was shocked you did this but thank you again for keeping it organic!!
Do icecube’s iconic no Vaseline 🙏🏾🙂
I second this on such a huge level.
👏🏾
Ci Ci no vaseline and second round my favorite diss tracks ever
Yessssssss!
What about ether in the middle of that .
Canibus won that, but LL used his fame to shield him from that loss. I still don't like what the industry did to Canibus after that. I think LL felt some kind of way, and used his influence to hinder Canibus' career.
Whatever dude, I'm not about to debate this with you. It is what it is.
Nobody held Canibus back. Canibus held himself back because his albums were whack.
@@joeymiller217
And Canibus couldn't touch LL musically where it really matters. All that lyrical talent and yet nothing to show for it except being a minor inconvenience in LL's career.
@@xaviervega468
And he was a one-trick pony who made songs for an audience that don't buy records, that being other rappers.

Canibus 2nd round Ko was so nice how come everyone kept saying LL won🤔

I'm glad you guys visited some old school beef, would love to see you guys visit others as well. Great video!!!
Yeah, hearing this now, Canibus destroyed LL. I agree, waaay too much filler in LL's verses.
Good breakdown guys! I don't think I ever heard this battle so it was fun to hear LL in this light. He's so PG nowadays! Canibus killed it though wow

Bus doesn’t need a hook, he can rip a beat with just verses
I’m pretty sure that disaster battle was rigged
LL won. Sorry, lol. Canibus was put on life support after this.
You 2 are my favorite reaction team by far. You give all the detail and make ya not only get the beef but understand it better. Great watch. Get into the em beef for us
Canibus destroyed him
Canibus meticulously destroyed LL . Canibus was ahead of his time, so much that it hurt him in a long run.
Whoa, I did not expect this. . . but I'm happy you did it.
All I gotta say is I miss the old school hip hop. I really enjoyed this. LL was all that back in the day. Thanks guys for keeping it real 🤘
Give Canibus the credit he deserves....the man is brilliant and has more rhymes than any other mc on the planet.

LL is a legend but Canibus clearly won that battle. Btw you guys wrote "Canabis" in the description LOL. Who's getting high? Ryan or George?
I really love that you guys are doing this!
Canibus definitely won this battle..he thoroughly broke LL cool j to pieces..
Good work brothers. I was there... Right outside NYC listening on HOT 97. Me and my little sister huddled over the radio. Thanks for bringing us back there, and allowing the younger gen to come along. Deadass.
Wish you had broke down the line "like common and cube, i see the bitch in you" the Ice Cube v Common Sense beef is a real deep cut for'em.
Wish you had broke

The best hip-hop break down ever!!!! Flint,Michigan in the house
RictorIAG Don't forget Cannabis verse on Beast From The East.
It was huge…this was bumping after school in every lot pre every sporting event I ever played at lol.

I’m surprised that y’all didn’t catch the “Eat eat eat emcees” line. Mike confused cannibal with Canibus (or vice versa 🤷🏾♂️) lol
Naw, it's from the interview Mike did before the Lennox Lewis fight where he said he was going to eat his children.
@@Stanlayy-em4fk But what does Cannabis have to do with eating? Think about it. 🤦🏾♂️
@@MrBean617
Canibus has nothing to do with eating. That Tyson "I want to eat his children" line is well known. Look it up. Instead of eating children he wanted Canibus to eat M.C.'s. He was making a comparison between himself and Canibus.

L. didn't think Canibus was disrespecting HIM, in fact he KNEW Canibus REVERED him. L. only felt totally THREATENED by Canibus because he was HOTT AF out of Queens at the time SO... as USUAL like he DID with EPMD during THEIR come up, L CHOSE some bullshyt excuse JUST to diss dis young brotha coming up. And even though L. rewrote HIS 4321 verse dissing Canibus AND Canibus DIDN'T rewrite HIS, L STILL had his ass HANDED to him... So to summarize L got fUQT UP on his OWN album with his sneaky shyts, and if not for L's OVERALL talent in the acting game, accomplishments, AND political powerful L would've got knocked da FUQ second round just like the song SAID. And L. CANNOT have ANY REAL friends because they wouldn't let him BELIEVE he won this battle with Canibus...And this ripper strikes back L tell you he had Canibus BLACK BALLED just because he got FUQT up over some shyt HE started...
Damn, that was intense D: those guys were not happy with each other
